TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME AUGUST 14, 2016
Dear Parishioners, Many of you have heard by now that Beth Weant will be leaving her position as Accountant/ Bookkeeper at the end of August. Beth has worked here at the parish for many years and has volunteered for many years. She went to St. Mary’s School
and Pallotti High School. For the past seven years she has been our accountant. We are finalizing a replacement. Beth’s love for St. Mary’s will not allow her to depart from us completely; she will be at the Parish Picnic on September 11 and back for the Christmas Bazaar on November 5. In the meantime, I hope you will have the opportunity to say, “so long,” before she leaves. Also at the end of the month, Michael Hanson will be moving to Montana to be with his dad. Mike has been an incredible volunteer at the parish serving on the pastoral council, men’s club, religious education teacher, lector and singing in the Schola, as well as many other activities. We will need many volunteers to fill in for these two exceptional parishioners. May God be their guide in all they do. There are many activities and opportunities for parishioners to be of service to the parish. Please contact any of the parish staff and offer to help.
God’s Peace, Fr. Mike
SUPPORT LIFE!
Gabriel Committee News & Meeting Sixteen St. Mary of the Mills’ parishioners were trained on July 20th, thus
establishing St. Mary’s first Gabriel Committee! The Gabriel Network’s main office has already asked us to assist two
local Laurel women who are pregnant and need help if they are to keep, not abort their babies. The Committee
has assigned an “Angel Team” to each at-risk woman to
befriend, encourage, and assist these women in identifying and obtaining the help they need. The next St.
Mary’s Gabriel Committee meeting will be held at 7:00pm on Wednesday, August 17, 3rd floor Wilson Room of the
Kessler Center to discuss lessons learned, Angel Team progress, and where unmet needed assistance might be
obtained. Contact Deacon Bob Gignilliat at 301-210-7667 or [email protected] if you have questions about this vital
baby saving ministry. Please join us on August 17th.
Pro-Life Speaker Dr. Grace Morrison will be the keynote speaker for the 40 Days For Life Kickoff Event at St. Mary’s
on Saturday, September 17 at 10:00am in the Breen Room. Dr. Morrison defends women in Germantown from
the late term abortionist Dr. Leroy Carhart. She describes her role these last five years in rescuing women from the
precipice of great evil. Light refreshments and prayer
resources will be offered. Call Joan O'Reilly at 301-262-0580 or email [email protected] for details.

YOU’RE INVITED TO EUCHARISTIC ADORATION
"How sweet is the moment in which poor humanity, wearied and afflicted, may remain alone, with Jesus alone, in the Sacrament of Love; for there the Lord, with His flaming heart open, calls unto all, 'You that are burdened and heavy laden, come unto Me and I will refresh you.' Happy are those hearts that know how to satisfy the unquenchable hunger
and thirst in this heavenly banquet!" ~ Fr. M.J. Corcoran, O.S.A.
How wonderful to know that there's a place you can come to and have a direct conversation with Jesus in His presence. A place where no one will judge you, or laugh at you, a place to call home. St. Mary's is the home of Jesus and of many Catholics who truly love the Lord. He is truly present in our tabernacle and is exposed on Tuesday's for all to come and bask in His presence. If you haven't come to Adoration yet, why not try and stop by this Tuesday and see what it's all about. You will be amazed at all the people you'll see who also take time out of their day to come and have a heart to heart with their creator. It's a wonderful feeling to walk into a church that you love and immediately feel like you are home. St. Mary's is a very special parish. We have good priests and good people here. Don't make it a once a week type parish come often and enjoy all that is offered. Eucharistic Adoration begins every Tuesday following the 9 o'clock morning Mass and continues throughout the day uninterrupted ending with a Novena to the Blessed Mother and Benediction at 6:30pm. All are encouraged to participate. Stay afterward for Confession.

We Really Need You!
Sometimes, when we hear this, we are inclined to say, “Not me.” for a variety of reasons. This time, say instead, “Yes,
Lord, let me go where you need me.” Say, “Yes, I want all to know you, Lord.” Say, “Yes, Lord, I want to grow.” Say, “Equip me Lord, for I want to serve.”
Let this be the year that you become a part of the Religious Education efforts of our parish. Our children need quality formation. Our children need to know Christ in a deeply personal way. We need so many people to make the formation process engaging and effective! You can help!

A Note From Our Facilities Staff …
All parishioners are asked to please help exhibit good
stewardship of our facilities. Whether you are here to attend
Mass, whether your parish ministry group is using the Breen
Room, Keesler Center, or School, whether your children are
using the restrooms, whether you park in the lots or on the
street, please be sure your trash gets into the appropriate
receptacles and please make an effort to set a good example to
our youngsters and visitors. Those using the facilities as part
of a parish ministry are also asked to be sure the rooms are
left as, or better than, you found them. Remember, this is
God’s house and we are all responsible for its upkeep. Your
consideration is most appreciated.
