THE COMPANYFounded in 1972, Sakr establishment, as it was known then, traded and contracted in electrical accessories and lighting fixtures before venturing into the Power Generation business. In the years that followed, Sakr entered the Iraqi market and became the number one company in sales of generators in that Market.
In 2004, Sakr was appointed distributor of GE transportation diesel engines in selected areas, which triggered the spin-off of a power projects department within the company.
In 2007, concentration on power projects grew and SPP business unit was launched to handle the design and implementation of turnkey power plants. On that same year, Sakr acquired MBH plant in Germany for the purpose of generating sets assembly in Europe.
In 2011, another plant named FSA was acquired in Poland for the manufacture of engines under the license of MAN. That same year, SPP was established as a strategic company within Sakr Group due to the need of a fully dedicated entity for power projects. Since then, SPP has grown into a global energy service provider and a leader in Power Generation Solutions & Services.
The Power Projects engineered and executed by SPP vary from a simple equipment supply to a complete turnkey delivery on EPC basis, in addition to Operation and Maintenance services, based on the customer’s requirements.
As for the current SPP product portfolio, it consists of Power Plants operating on Diesel, Gas, HFO, and Dual Fuel (Diesel/Gas) for which many of the world’s leading power engines’ and turbines’ brands are used such as GE Transportation, GE Jenbacher, GE Aeroderivatives, MAN and Rolls Royce.

Black Start Expertise
MBH Medium Speed Generating Sets based on GE Transportation Engine are the ideal diesel solution for prime, peaking and Black Start applications.
In the particular case of black start applications, the purpose of the BSDG system is to provide auxiliary power to enable the start up of the power plant main generating units (Turbines) and to restore the power station to operation without relying on aux-iliary power fromthe grid.
Many black start projects were executed by SPP namely for mega deal projects in Iraq (up to 250MW and 10 units per site).
