1.Born Cassius Marcellus Clay,Jr. on January 17, 1942 inLouisville, Kentucky.2.Debuted as amateur boxer in1954.3.In 1960 received Gold Medalat Summer Olympics in Rome4.He made professional debut asboxer on Oct. 29, 1960. 5.Won World HeavyweightChampionship in 1964 againstSonny Liston.6.In 1964 changed named toCassius X Clay then later toMuhammad Ali when he con-verted to Islam through Nationof Islam.7.In 1966, Ali refused to serve inthe U.S. military because he didnot believe in the Vietnam War.He was charged with draft eva-sion.8.Ali was stripped of boxing titlebecause of his refusal to serveon the military. From 1967 to1970, he could not fight profes-sionally.9.On March 8, 1971, he viedwith Joe Frazier in what becamefamously known as the “Fight ofthe Century”.10.Supreme Court overturnedhis conviction of draft dodgingin 1971.11. On Oct. 30, 1974, Ali foughtGeorge Foreman in Zaire inwhat became known as “TheRumble in the Jungle”.12.Ali retired in 1981.13.Died of septic shock on June3, 2016 at aged 74 in Scottsdale,Arizona. Ali was known world-wide as “The Greatest”.
