By KATE DANIEL Staff reporter
Django Reinhardt fans are getting jazzed for the 15th annual DjangoFest Northwest, beginning Sept. 23 in Langley.
The festival will encompass five days of performances from renowned gypsy jazz artists, as well as a number of impromptu “D-Jams” throughout the town.
Lache Cercel and the Roma Swing Ensemble and Hot Club of Troy will kick things off at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 23.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday will begin with workshops at 10 a.m. on subjects such as rhythm guitar, playing in the Roma style, gypsy virtuoso for violin, basic com-mand of the accordion, and picking with the “right-hand technique.”,
At 3 p.m. Friday, the Sebastien Giniaux Trio and Hot Club of Berklee featuring Quinn Bachand and Max O’Rourke will take the stage, fol-lowed by an 8 p.m. performance by Les Doigts de l’Homme and Trio Dinicu.
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Hot Club of Detroit and Pearl Django will play, followed by an 8 p.m. performance by the Biréli Lagréne Gipsy Project.
On Sunday, the Gonzalo Bergara “De Montes” Project and Marian Badoï Trio will play at 3 p.m., fol-lowed by the concluding presenta-tion: Djam Parisienne — Biréli Lagréne, Les Doigts de l’Homme,
Gonzalo Bergara, Max O’Rourke and more at 7 p.m.
Last year’s event attracted an esti-mated 3,000 people who relished the musical artistry of regional and internationally acclaimed gypsy jazz performers.
Artists and attendees alike come from all over the country — and the world, according to organizers.
Performances will take place both
at Whidbey Island Center for the Arts and in the auditorium of the neighboring Langley Middle School.
Local wines will be served during intermissions, and vendors will sell items such as musical instruments and accessories, CDs and clothing.
Festival passes are available for purchase and range from standard weekend passes at $256.50 to pre-mium festival passes at $432.25. All
workshops cost $50, except special presentations, which cost $60 on stage or $20 in-house. Single main stage performance tickets are also available and are priced depending on seating and performance, ranging from $25 to $80.
