The landscape was inspired by a photograph in a tourist brochure. There are so many lovely old
castles scattered all over the country.
I worked in acrylics and produced some canvasses which will be framed and hung in the
hotel in the Czech Republic.
The “Africa Room” needed something well…, African? I was inspired by a watercolour I had seen of two zebras basking in the morning sun.
I painted a large still life depicting a mundane kitchen scene in the foreground
and a little something going on in the background between the cat and the critter. I incorporated a cat to represent the castle’s resident cat “Leeuwtjie” (little lion). I based the design on one point perspective to give
a 3D feel.
Lastly, the forests in the Czech Republic are full of mushrooms. Some are edible and
others very poisonous. A quartet of 12” x12” canvases can be positioned in a grouping of
pictures on a wall in a room or along a corridor.
