J.S. Bach S.D.G.—“to the only God be glory,” or

“to the glory of God alone.

Hear the Word of the Lord:

“For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

Page 4: Soli Deo Gloria

In Scripture, Glory refers to the essential worth, beauty and value of people, created things, and, of course, the Creator himself. To glorify God is to praise or speak of Him and His greatness openly and truthfully.

1. The “glory of the Lord” in the Old

Testament Visible… Real…

Fearful presence. Habakkuk wanted

the knowledge of God’s glory to be as pervasive as the waters that cover the sea.

2. The “glory of God” seen most clearly in

Christ “The Word became flesh

and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.”

The glory of God comes in a way that we can understand… a package that looked average on the surface. Glory had a human face.

3. The “glory of God” in His People, the Church

The glory of God… alive and well… present in power and brilliance and compassion…

“The Shopping Window of God” “Let your light shine before

men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

We cannot, at the same time, seek to bring glory to ourselves, and say, “Jesus is Lord.”

Called to spread the fire of God’s glory!

MAKING IT PERSONAL

May God give us a glow that illuminates His worth.

Surely God wants to use Us to bring him glory…. Me… You.

If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here… Show me your glory.” Ex. 33:15, 18

We cannot give what we do not have.

LORD, “Show me your glory.”
