Crossbites occur w
hen the upper and lower
jaws are both m
isaligned. It usually causes
one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside
of the lower teeth, and can happen on both
the front and/or the sides of the mouth.
This issue can cause wear of the teeth, gum
disease and bone loss.
Overcrow
ded teeth occur w
hen there is sim
ply a lack of room
within your jaw
for all of your teeth to fit norm
ally. W
hen left untreated, overly crow
ded teeth can cause an increased chance of gum
disease as your teeth are harder to clean.
Overbites occur w
hen the upper teeth overlap sig
nificantly with the low
er teeth. It’s typically caused by either genetics, bad oral habits, or over developm
ent of the bone that supports the teeth. This issue can lead to gum
problems or irritation, and/or w
ear on the low
er teeth and can cause painful jaw
and joint problems.
Underbites occur
when the low
er teeth protrude past the front teeth, usually caused by undergrow
th of the upper jaw
, overgrowth of
the lower jaw
, or both. It can also be caused by m
issing upper teeth. This issue can prevent the norm
al function of front teeth or m
olars which
can lead to tooth wear.
It can also cause painful jaw
and joint problems.
Widely spaced teeth
occur when you have
extra space within your jaw
. This could be due to sm
all sized teeth, abnormal grow
th of jaw
bones, genetics, missing teeth
and/or tongue protrusion. Spacing issues can cause som
e perio-dontal diseases including gingivitis and periodontitis, that, left untreated, can lead to tooth loss.

Strong and stable, a dental implant restores a lost tooth so that

can lead to bone deterioration, and may interfere w

Built to last. D

Traditional, tooth-supported dental bridges only last five to seven years, and w

Protect healthy b

ore teeth can lead to additional health issues, such as the loss and deterioration of som
e of your jawbone. W
hen it is not being used to support a natural tooth, the jaw
bone deteriorates, losing its strength and firm
ness. Dental im
plants are the only dental restoration option that preserves and stim
ulates natural bone, actually helping to stim

Keep your teeth in your m

ental implants allow
you to keep your teeth where they belong

Dental im
plants are small rod-like posts that act as a base for replacem
ent teeth. They are placed into the jaw
bone and act like roots in that they support the tooth, denture or bridge. In all surgical dentistry treatm
ents, such as dental implants, you w
ill need to have a consultation w
ith the dentist to determine the best option for your particular circum
stance. The dental im
plant screw fits into the bone and has an clip (abutm
ent) that the tooth (crow
n) fits on to. Titanium is the usual m
aterial that implants are m
ade of, this is because Titanium
has no ill effect on the human body and bonds readily w
ith the new bone, w
hich penetrates into the titanium
surface. The implants should last a lifetim
e if you look after them
and maintain good oral hygiene.
An Im
plant-supported bridge is a dental prosthesis supported by one or m
ore implants replacing three or m
ore teeth. Implant-supported bridges
are similar to a regular bridge. Typically, w
hen an implant-supported bridge
is used, one implant is installed for each m
issing tooth. The supervising surgeon w
ill then connect the crowns together to form
one unified bridge.[1] Im
plant-supported fixed partial dentures can be either screw retained or
cemented, depending upon the type of treatm
ent strategy employed by the
orthodontist. One draw
back of cemented im
plant-supported bridges are that they cannot be easily rem
oved as they are permanently fixed.[2] Ideally,
implant-supported bridges reduce the need for “cutting dow
n” adjacent teeth and can have a better long-term
prognosis for dental patients.[3]
For a cost-effective way of replacing m
any missing teeth, dentures can be held securely in
place with im
plants, providing a great improvem
ent from traditional rem
ovable dentures.• N
o need for denture adhesives, pastes, sticky gum or pow

A low

The All-on-6 dental im
plant technique is revolutionary procedure allow
ing patients to attend the surgery in the m
orning and leave with a fully fixed tem
porary set of teeth in the afternoon! The A
ll-on-6 concept was developed to enable the dental im
plant dentist to minim
ise the number of
implants req
uired to restore an entire arch (Jaw) of teeth and to enable the tem
porary restoration to be fitted to the im
plants on the very same day. Traditional im
plant techniques req
uire 6-12 implants (w
hich costs sig
nificantly more) to restore a jaw
and also a period of extended healing time w
here the bridge cannot be fixed. The scientific idea behind the A
ll-on-6 implant techniq
ue is that the two front im
plants are placed straight into the front of the jaw
bone parallel to the previously existing teeth whilst the tw
o implants placed at the
back of the jaw are angled at about 30
to 45 degrees in the bone compared to original root positions. This
method enables the im
plants to provide a firm overall support and also evenly spreads the chew
ing forces transm
itted from the denture or bridge to the jaw
bone.

POR

IN V
ENEERS can help im
prove the appearance of teeth that are m
alformed, cracked, discolored or have other types of im
perfections. In m
ost cases, porcelain veneers dramatically transform
a patient’s smile, have
a positive impact on oral health and gives confidence to the patient.
The Veneer D
ifference
If you’re looking for a new set of veneers then you w
ill be happy to know
that we’ve got a netw
ork of dentists. V
eneers are an extremely popular form
of cosmetic
dental treatment; they enhance the appearance of your
teeth without the need for painful, costly operations.
Modern technology allow
s our dentists to supply and fit veneers that m
atch the rest of your teeth, for a seamless,
attractive finish.
Why dental veneers?
• Veneers im
prove the appearance of
your teeth with m
inimal appointm
ent times.
• They’re cost-effective and pain-free.
• Veneers last for a long tim
e if cared for
correctly.
If you’re conscious of your smile and the appearance
of your teeth, having veneers fitted is one of the best w
ays to ensure your teeth look perfect. Of course there
are other treatments available out there, including dental
implants – but in term
s of cost and scope of treatment,
veneers are much cheaper and do not usually require
surgery.
The process of having veneers fitted usually requires two
or three trips to your dentist. On the first trip your dentist
will assess your teeth in order to ensure the veneers are
manufactured to be consistent w
ith the rest of your teeth. O
n the second visit the veneers will be fitted, they’re
attached your existing teeth using a strong adhesive. A
third visit may be required so the dentist can polish the
veneers for you, and check the stability.

e have available, and to talk about your specific treatm
ent requirements, please call us

Anti-w

Cfast is a sim

etic treatment that corrects
alignm
ent issues with the top and bottom
front six teeth, and can level and round out the arches, thus satisfying the needs of the vast m
ajority of adult patients w
ho seek orthodontic treatment.
Cfast uses clear orthodontic brackets
and tooth-colored nickel-titanium w
ires. The treatm
ent works m
uch like using clear alig
ners, but tooth movem
ent is usually m
ore than twice as q
uick.
The nickel-titanium w
ires put gentle pressure on the brackets to level and alig

Cfast is a fast, effective and affordable
treatment w
hen adults are seeking to correct their sm
iles. Because it does not address m
ajor orthodontic issues, C
fast can be done very quickly, m
aking it m
ore affordable than all other orthodontic options.
Cfast takes less tim
e than conventional orthodontics because it focuses only on the “social six”, the front teeth that m
ost influence the sm
ile. The process is further enhanced w
ith the use of
special nickel-titanium w
ires, which
exerts continous gentle pressure, forcing m
ovement in the teeth.
With clear brackets and tooth-colored
wires, C
fast is barely noticeable – and
worn for only a fraction of the tim
e of traditional braces.
Standard orthodontic mechanics are
still involved with C
FAST, but because it’s
just the front teeth, the force required
is minim
al. The nickel-titanium w
ires exert m
ild pressure to force the teeth to m
ove, and this is done without the
need for severe tightening which causes
the discomfort noted in conventional
orthodontic treatments.

?The problem

Will it look natura

is to have your new crow

the dentist to craft the look of your smile, he w
ill consider the colour, bite, shape and length of your natural teeth. You can let your dentist know
what look you w
ant for your crown. Your teeth w
ill be more attractive and stronger after the procedure.
Why C
rowns &
not Veneers?
A crow
n will need the dentist to rem
ove more of the tooth than a veneer, so they cover m
ore of the tooth than veneers. C
rowns are usually used for teeth that have sustained significant loss of structure or to replace m
issing teeth. Crow
ns can be placed on natural teeth or dental im

How
long d
o Crow
ns last?
Just like natural teeth, it depends upon your dental hygiene and how w
ell you take care of them. They should last five to eight
years, but with good care and m
aintenance, most crow
ns will last for m
uch longer. Things that can shorten the life of a crown
include grinding your teeth, chewing ice and fingernail biting.

FAQ
What is Invisalign?
Invisalign is the virtually invisible way to straighten
your teeth and achieve the smile you’ve alw
ays dream
ed of.
Using
advanced 3D
com
puter-im
aging technology,
Invisalign depicts
your com
plete treatment plan based on your Invisalign
Provider’s prescription,
from
the initial
position of your teeth to the final desired position. Then a series of clear aligners are custom
-made for
your teeth – and your teeth only – to move them
little by little. Each aligner is w
orn for about two
weeks before being replaced by the next in the
series, gradually moving tow
ards the projected final position. Your Invisalign treatm
ent time w
ill be determ
ined by your Invisalign Provider, based on your specific needs.
What are the benefits of Invisalign?
Invisalign aligners are nearly invisible. No one m
ay even notice that you’re w
earing these virtually invisible
aligners, m
aking Invisalign
a seam
less fit w
ith your lifestyle and day-to-day interactions w
ith others.Invisalign
aligners are
removable
giving you the flexibility to eat and drink what you
want during treatm
ent by simply rem
oving the aligners. A
nd you can also remove the aligners to
brush and floss as you normally w
ould for fresh breath and to m
aintain good oral hygiene.
Unlike traditional fixed braces, there are no m
etal brackets or w
ires. This means that in m
ost cases less
time
is spent
in your
Invisalign Provider’s
practice for adjustments.
And
finally, Invisalign
allows
you to
view
your virtual
results and
treatment
plan before
you even begin treatm
ent so you can see how your
teeth are expected to look when your treatm
ent is com
plete
Is this a new w
ay to straighten teeth?
Dentists
or orthodontists
have, in
the past,
successfully used removable appliances for years.
But with the application of A
lign Technology’s 3D
computer
technology and
mass-custom
isation, the Invisalign System
can be used to treat a wide
range of patients who w
ants straighter teeth. The unique C
linCheck®
software allow
s patients to see their treatm
ent plan from beginning to end
even before the start of treatment.
How
old is the company?
Align
Technology, Inc.,
the com
pany that
manufactures Invisalign, w
as founded in 1997.
How
old is the technology?
In 1945, Dr. H
.D. K
iesling envisioned that one day m
odern technology would enable the use of a
series of tooth positioners to produce the kinds of
movem
ents required
for com
prehensive
orthodontic treatm
ent. A
lign Technology
has m
ade this
vision a
reality. U
sing advanced
computer technology, A
lign Technology produces Invisalign, a series of custom
ised clear aligners. Each aligner is w
orn sequentially by the patient to produce gradual tooth m
ovements in both upper
and lower arches.
How
many patients are being treated w
ith Invisalign?
More than 2.5 m
illion patients worldw
ide have been
treated w
ith Invisalign.
The num
ber of
Invisalign smiles grow
s daily.
How
much does Invisalign cost?
As w
ith other types of orthodontic treatment, the
cost of Invisalign is dependent on the complexity
of your issue and your course of treatment. A
s a general rule the cost is com
parable to traditional fixed
braces. A
nd, although
only an
Invisalign Provider is able to fully determ
ine your cost, prices for Invisalign treatm
ent are generally between
£2,500
-£4,50
0.
How
ever, if
only m
inor tooth
movem
ent is required, prices could start from
£1,500
.
How
does Invisalign work?
Invisalign aligners move teeth w
ith an appropriate placem
ent of controlled movem
ent on the teeth. U
nlike traditional
braces, Invisalign
not only
controls the amount of m
ovement per aligner,
but also the timing of the m
ovement. So at each
stage, only certain teeth are allowed to m
ove, as
per the
Invisalign treatm
ent plan
for that
particular stage. This results in an efficient force
delivery system that m
oves teeth into the desired prescribed position.
What is the m
inimum
age of a patient that a D
octor can treat with Invisalign?
With experience, an Invisalign Provider can use
Invisalign to treat malocclusion for a m
ajority of adults and adolescents w
ho want a better sm
ile. For teenagers, talk to your Invisalign Provider to see if Invisalign Teen m
ay be the right treatment
option for your child.
How
often must I see m
y Invisalign provider once I have started treatm
ent?
Appointm
ent intervals are generally the same as
with traditional braces but can be m
uch quicker w
ith less time spent in the dentists’ or orthodontists’
chair during
appointments
as no
adjustments
need to be made to w
ires/brackets. Patients typically visit their Invisalign Provider every 4 to 6 w
eeks to ensure the treatment is progressing
as planned, and to receive their next few sets of
Invisalign aligners, but your Invisalign Provider will
decide based on your treatment.
How
long does the Invisalign treatment take?
The total duration of treatment depends on the
complexity
of the
treatment
and is
generally com
parable to that of traditional braces. Typically treatm
ent can last between 9 and 18 m
onths. D
uring your consultation, your Invisalign Provider can provide you w
ith more detailed inform
ation.
Is the Invisalign treatment painful?
Some people m
ay experience temporary, m
inor discom
fort for a few days, at the beginning of
each new stage of treatm
ent when they insert
a new aligner. This is norm
al and is typically described as a feeling of pressure. It is a sign that the aligners are w
orking – moving your teeth
gradually, helping you to achieve the final results. This discom
fort typically goes away in a couple
of days.
Does the procedure w
ork on overbites?
An Invisalign Provider can use Invisalign to treat
overbites in
the vast
majority
of adults
and adolescents
. C
onsult an
Invisalign Provider
to determ
ine whether Invisalign is suitable for you.
Are
there certain
conditions that
automatically exclude som
eone from being
eligible patient?
Only your Invisalign Provider can determ
ine if you are a good candidate for Invisalign treatm
ent.
Are bridges a factor for Invisalign treatm
ent?
Because bridges firmly link tw
o or more teeth
together, they offer significant resistance to tooth
movem
ent. Your Invisalign Provider will be able to
determine w
hether bridges will be a factor in your
treatment.
Are crow
ns a factor for Invisalign treatment?
Crow
ns (tooth caps) are usually not a factor in Invisalign treatm
ent. How
ever, sometim
es small
tooth-coloured composites called “attachm
ents” are bonded onto teeth to help achieve certain m
ovements and are m
ore difficult to bond on
crowns than teeth. In these cases, the location of
crowns m
ust be carefully evaluated. An Invisalign
Provider can provide further advice.
Can Invisalign close gaps?
Yes. Spaces between teeth are generally easy to
close with Invisalign. C
onsult an Invisalign Provider to determ
ine whether Invisalign is suitable for you.
Will TM
J affect Invisalign treatm
ent?
TMJ refers to the tem
poromandibular (jaw
) joint. People w
ith a TMJ condition can have a num
ber of problem
s with the jaw
joint, some of w
hich can

FAQ
be aggravated
by appliances
and treatm
ents like
Invisalign, and
some
which
can im
prove, rem
ain the same or even cause the condition to
deteriorate. To find out if your TMJ problem
will
adversely impact treatm
ent, consult an Invisalign Provider.
Once Invisalign treatm
ent is completer is a
retainer necessary?
Wearing
a retainer
after any
orthodontic treatm
ent is an important step, because it keeps
teeth stable in their new positions. If you w
ant your teeth to rem
ain in their ideal position, it is best to w
ear a retainer as directed by an Invisalign Provider.
In m
any cases
your last
aligner w
ill be your tem
porary retainer, until your retention option is determ
ined. Your Invisalign Provider can advise you on longer term
retention options.
Since having my braces rem
oved, my teeth
have shifted. Can Invisalign correct this?
A num
ber of Invisalign patients have undergone a previous treatm
ent involving braces at some point
in their past, often during their youth. Invisalign can usually correct the shifting that occurs after braces com
monly referred to as relapse.
I’m currently w
earing braces. Can I switch to
Invisalign?
A significant num
ber of patients are being treated w
ith a
combination
of braces
and Invisalign.
Consult an Invisalign Provider to determ
ine the best treatm
ent for you.
Are
there restrictions
on w
hat I
can eat
during the treatment?
No. U
nlike traditional wires and brackets, you can
eat whatever you like w
hile in treatment because
you remove your aligners to eat and drink. Thus,
there is no need to restrict consuming any of your
favourite foods and snacks. Also, it is im
portant that you brush and floss your teeth after each m
eal and prior to re-inserting your aligners to m
aintain proper hygiene.
How
often must the aligners be w
orn?
Aligners
should be
worn
all the
time
during treatm
ent, except
when
eating, brushing
or flossing teeth.
Will the aligners aff
ect speech?
The vast majority of patients report no eff
ect on speech. H
owever, as w
ith traditional orthodontic appliances, there is an initial adjustm
ent period associated w
ith having something new
in the m
outh.
Can I smoke w
hile wearing the
aligners?
Smoking is discouraged w
hile wearing aligners
because it is possible for the aligners to become
stained or discoloured.
Can I chew gum
while w
earing aligners?
Chew
ing gum
w
hile w
earing aligners
is not
advised as
gum
can stick
to aligners.
It is
recomm
ended that aligners be removed for all
meals and snacks.
What is the best w
ay to clean my aligners?
The best way to clean your aligners is by brushing
and rinsing them in lukew
arm w
ater and using the Invisalign C
leaning Crystals or special cleaning
tablets. It’s important that you brush your teeth
after each meal and prior to re-inserting your
aligners to maintain proper hygiene
FA
Q’S
Can anyone have implants?
No,
not just
anyone w
ith m
issing teeth
can have
the gaps
filled w
ith im
plants. You
need to
be in
reasonably good
health, and
it should
be borne
in m
ind that
smoking cigarettes can im
pede the healing process of the im
plant.
It is also important that the rest of
your teeth are in good condition and free from
decay or disease. If there are
any existing
conditions, these
will have to be treated before the
implant can take place.
The placing of an implant also relies
upon sufficient bone in the jaw
to hold
it. Your
implant
surgeon w
ill check this using a C
T scan and, in the event of bone density being too low
, a graft can be performed.
What
advantages do
implants
have over
other m
ethods of
replacing teeth?
The usual
alternatives to
dental im
plants are bridges and dentures. Fitting a bridge involves attaching
false teeth to your existing teeth. For this to w
ork, the existing teeth have to be filed dow
n, a procedure which
can have implications for their future
well being.
In the case of dentures, teeth which
are attached to a metal or plastic
plate are
placed in
the m
outh and taken out each day. D
entures are
frequently cum
bersome
and uncom
fortable, and
can lim
it the
food the patient is able to eat.
Dental
implants
are a
permanent
replacement
for m
issing teeth
which,
in som
e w
ays, are
even better than the real thing. A
s well
as providing an aesthetic solution, dental im
plants solve the problem
of bone loss in the jaw, som
ething w
hich the alternatives don’t address.
What can I eat and drink w
ith an im
plant?
Anything. The chief advantage of
a dental implant is that it behaves
exactly like
your original
tooth, m
eaning that there is no food or drink that’s off
limits.
Is the procedure painful?
The implant surgeon w
ill administer
a local anaesthetic before putting the
implant
in place.
During
the actual surgery itself, therefore, you w
ill feel virtually no pain. Following
surgery, there will be som
e minor
discomfort and sw
elling, but nothing that
over the
counter m
edication can’t deal w
ith.
Are there any side eff
ects?
There are no side effects associated
with
dental im
plants. O
ccasionally, the body m
ay reject the implant, but
on these rare occasions a second im
plant can usually be fitted.
How
will m
y teeth appear whilst
the implant is healing?
To cover
the period
whilst
the im
plant is ‘growing’ into the bone,
your implant surgeon m
ay fit you w
ith temporary ‘teeth’ in the form
of an adhesive bridge or a denture. W
ith this in place, you will be able
to carry on with your social and
working life, as before.
How
long
does the
procedure take?
The actual
operation to
fit the
implant
should take
between
an hour
and tw
o hours,
after w
hich there is a ‘healing’ period of eight to tw
elve weeks, at the end of w
hich the crow
n can be attached to the im
plant.
How
long does an implant last?
An
implant
is a
permanent
replacement
for a
missing
tooth, and
actually requires
slightly less
maintenance than a natural tooth.
When cared for properly, im
plants can last longer than 40
years.

Not any m

s such as Invisalign the w

that they are having orthodontic treatment.
So discreet are the braces that they are virtually invisible and can be taken out for eating and for a special occasion. The average tim

What is C
fast?
Cfast is a sim
ple cosmetic system
which uses
orthodontic appliances
specially designed
to straighten the front teeth of adults to provide a significant
improvem
ent in
the appearance
of their sm
ile in a time fram
e of usually less than 6 m
onths.
How
does it work?
There are
many
ways
to m
ove your
front teeth but the m
ost comm
on is by using a tooth coloured brace that is fixed to the front of your teeth. C
osmetic N
ickel Titanium w
ires work in
conjunction with ceram
ic brackets to gently align the teeth into a better position using very light forces. Because the appliance has tooth coloured brackets and w
ires it is very discreet.
How
ever there are also braces that can be used on the inside of your teeth w
hich are completely
invisible as well as plastic aligners for those patient
that prefer a removable option.Your dentist w
ill be best placed to discuss w
ith you what is m
ost appropriate in your case.
Why is it so fast?
Cfast focuses on just the front teeth, the teeth you
can see when you sm
ile for a purely cosmetic
improvem
ent. Teeth at the front of the mouth
have just one root and the bone here is less dense that at the back of the m
outh. As such treatm
ent can be concluded in a significantly shorter tim
e fram
e when com
pared with traditional braces.
Conventional orthodontics repositions all the teeth
in your mouth including the ones at the back
which adds significantly to the tim
e – usually around
18-24 m
onths.
Since m
ost adults
are not concerned about the position of their back teeth and w
ant to avoid lengthy treatments, C
fast provides an ideal solution.
Is it
better than
traditional braces
or orthodontics?
Cfast
should not
be com
pared to
traditional orthodontics or braces. The m
ain aim of traditional
orthodontics is to move the teeth and jaw
s, mainly
of children, into an ideal relationship so that they w
ill function well w
hen biting and chewing. C
fast is aim
ed only at adults and is carried out purely for cosm
etic reasons. The alternative to Cfast w
ill be crow
ns or veneers which usually involve the
enamel of otherw
ise healthy teeth to be drilled dow
n and
as such
can be
quite destructive.
Moving teeth into a better position avoids having
to carry out other more dam
aging treatments.
Is it painful?
As w
ith any orthodontic procedure there can be som
e discomfort for a few
days after appliance is fitted. H
owever because w
ith Cfast the forces
are very light usually after the first 7-10 days there
should be little to no pain at all. During treatm
ent you m
ay find that the teeth become a little m
obile and sensitive to pressure. This is quite norm
al and w
ill fully resolve when the braces are rem
oved.
Are there any com
plications?
Not everyone w
ill be suitable for treatment and
cases are only selected where w
e can achieve a significant im
provement in appearance in a
reasonable time fram
e. There may be underlying
health conditions or problems w
ith some of your
existing teeth which m
ay mean that treatm
ent either

ill be able to discuss with
you in detail about your particular situation as every case is diff
erent.
Will I be restricted in w
hat I can eat?
If have opted for a fixed brace the it is advisable to avoid hard foods such as nuts, popcorns, crusty bread or any such foods that m
ay accidentally dislodge the brackets. It is also best to stay aw
ay from heavily coloured foods w
hich may
on occasion stain the brace, however if this does
happen your dentist will be able to easily restore
the cosmetic appearance.
With rem
ovable aligners, it is best that these are rem
oved before eating or drinking.
Will I have problem
s cleaning my teeth?
It can be a little more challenging to clean your
teeth if you are wearing a brace. H
owever good
oral hygiene is very important during treatm
ent and your dentist or dental hygienist w
ill show
you how to best look after your teeth as w
ell as suggest the right products to use.
How
will I know
what kind of result I can
expect?
Cfast can provide you w
ith 3D com
puter imaging
as w
ell as
models
to accurately
show
you w
hat your teeth should look like following the
straightening procedure.
How
long does treatment take?
Cfast is a procedure in cosm
etic dentistry know as
cosmetic orthodontics or short-term
orthodontics. By
definition treatm
ent tim
es are
significantly shorter than conventional orthodontics. Treatm
ent should take no longer than 9 m
onths but the vast m
ajority are complete in a 4-6 m
onth period.
Your Dentist w
ill be able to give you a rough idea of how
long treatment w
ill take in your case when
you attend for your initial consultation.
Will I need to w
ear retainers?
Regardless of how teeth are m
oved, either by norm
al orthodontics, removable aligners or C
fast, if they are not held in position there is a strong
possibility that they will start to m
ove in time. The
Cfast protocol provides tw
o types of retainers; a fixed retainer w
hich is permanently bonded to the
inside of the teeth as well as a rem
ovable retainer w
hich is worn over night.
The removable retainer, w
hich is worn every night
is the main retainer. It is advisable that for the
first year you wear the retainer every night w
hile sleeping only and 3-4 nights per w
eek thereafter. A
s long as you wear your retainer your teeth w
ill not m
ove. The fixed retainer is a very thin metal
strip which is invisible and very com
fortable. This is the back-up retainer and is there to ensure that there is no significant tooth m
ovement should the
removable
retainer becom
e lost
or dam
aged. They can last over 2 years and m
ay require repair or replacem
ent.
Your dentist will explain retainers in m
ore detail w
hen you attend for your initial consultation.
Will I need to have teeth taken out?
With C
fast extractions are not required. Space to relieve crow
ding is gained by gently easing the contact points betw
een the teeth using a polishing strip. This creates a very sm
all space betw
een the teeth that allow them
to move and
slide past each other into a more ideal position.
The conservative removal of enam
el between the
teeth using these special polishing strips is very safe and a w
ell-recognised procedure in dentistry and does not dam
age the teeth.
In rare circumstances the dentist m
ay advocate the rem
oval of a front tooth in the lower jaw
if there is extrem
e crowding. H
owever, if this is
required you will be consulted fully and further
special investigations will be carried out before
proceeding.
How
much does it cost?
Treatment costs vary and depend on w
hether you are treating just one jaw
or both jaws and
whether there are any particular circum
stances w
hich may m
ake treatment m
ore complicated
than normal. In general the costs are com
parable to other orthodontic and cosm
etic procedures. Your dentist w
ill be able to assess costs when you
attend for your initial consultation.
Is the price inclusive – are there any hidden costs?
When you attend for your initial consultation the
dentist will explain in detail w
hat the price of treatm
ent includes and provide a written estim
ate explaining in detail w
hat the associated costs are. In general though the price w
ill cover the initial investigations, fitting the appliance and all review
appointm
ents including
adjustments
required as w
ell as the retainers. Extra’s such as tooth w
hitening and modifications to the shape of teeth
following the straightening process are usually
charged separately.

bright, white, even sm

smile can m
ake that good first im
pression a lasting impression and w
hite, even teeth can becom
e a focus for others as we speak. But how
can a sm
ile make us look younger? Findings show
that most
people think that a smile is a good indicator of not only youth
but financial success and education too!
Look Younger, Smarter and M
ore Successful
Who knew
? The fountain of youth has been in your dental surgery all the time!
Oral B conducted a survey that said that a w
hite healthy smile takes years
off us. A
nd what m
ight surprise you is that having cosmetic dental w
ork, in particular teeth w
hitening has been found to be a more successful w
ay of restoring a youthful appearance than having a facelift.
Whiten Your Teeth and G
et the Job!
Studies have shown that job applicants are alm
ost 60%
more likely
to get the job and over 50%
more likely to get a higher salary off
er if they have w
hitened their teeth. And yes, w
e do know that
making judgem
ents on physical appearance are not PC but the
subconscious has a mind of its ow
n! So investing in a whitening
treatment that can lighten teeth by up to 12 shades seem
s like a sm
all price to pay. Whitening trays to w
ear at home are
another option and can help to remove yellow
stains in only a w
eek. At your next job interview
flash a bright, white
confident smile and knock ‘em
dead!
Brainy Looking Teeth
Turns out that we assum
e that people with straight
teeth are better educated! Those people who have
crowded crooked teeth or have gaps and discoloured
teeth are perceived to have fewer years of education
in less prestigious schools. Tooth correction can be m
anaged virtually invisibly with treatm
ents like Invisalign braces. So don’t w
orry about those exam
s, having your teeth straightened will give
others the impression that you are a genius. O
h and studies show
that this kind of correction just like teeth w
hitening, can take 10 years
off you too!
Want a date? Fix Those
Dam
aged Teeth!
That mishap w
hen you tripped and chipped a tooth m
ight have done m
ore damage than you think!
People asked about the things they find m
ost off putting on a first
date listed damaged discoloured
or chipped teeth as being major
turnoffs. Luckily there is an easy
solution waiting for you at Finest
Dental. Veneers are thin, custom
-m
ade shells that are fitted over the teeth m
uch as a false fingernail fits on a nail. They can sort out m
any different types of
tooth problems like stains, chips
and even smaller gaps as w

With instant photo sharing and selfies everyw
here today, being able to produce an instant cam
era ready smile is essential. But you don’t have to be a celebrity to
make a great looking subject for a picture. You too can have that perfect photo
ready smile and here’s how
-
Keep it N
atural
When its tim
e to pose just smile gently. W
hen you do your face will look relaxed, your m
outh will be slightly open
and your lower lip w
ill curve long the line of your upper teeth. Perfect! As a guide this is not the type of quick
broad smile that you give w
hen you come across a friend unexpectedly ‘cos that sm
ile involves squinty eyes and tense neck m
uscles - not the best look for a photo.
Shoulders Back
When you sm
ile do you look like you have a double chin? If the answer is yes then you need to look to your
posture. Slouching or having your head tilted forward w
ill not showcase that great sm
ile. Instead turn your head to one side a little and then drop your chin so that you are not looking square into the cam
era.
Look to your Lipstick Ladies
Another clever trick for a picture perfect sm
ile is to choose a lipstick that complim
ents your skin tone. Choose just
the right shade of lippie like a wine, cherry red, plum
, berry or a rosy pink because those can make teeth look
whiter, Shades like cherry red, w
ine, berry, plum, or rosy pink are all good choices. Lipsticks w
ith a blue or pink base w
ill help you to cover up yellow stains on your teeth.
Picking the wrong colour, like one that is too dark or too bright red, w
ill do nothing for you. Teeth whitening either
in the surgery or at home can do the trick too!
Check O
ut Your Raw M
aterials.
Having a great picture ready sm
ile can often be helped w
ith a bit of prep work. If your teeth have gone a bit
yellow w
ith age, try a whitening product or visit your
dentist for a whitening treatm
ent. Cracked, broken, or
missing teeth can be sorted too, just ask us at Finest
Dental w
hat treatments w
e can offer. G
ums are often
forgotten but they need love too. These talented supporting actors, play a crucial role in giving you your picture ready sm
ile. Brush and floss every day as w
ell as rinsing with a antibacterial m
outhwash.
Practice makes Picture Perfect.
Having a perfect sm
ile will not happen overnight
and if you are due to attend a big photo focused occasion like a w
edding or graduation then it is alw
ays a good idea to try that winning grin out
in a mirror. Try seeing how
it feels and looks to stand up straight, and sm
ile that natural smile
that does not look forced. Turn your head and try out diff
erent poses till you find the one that is so stunning it w
ill stop traff
ic!

There is no doubt that our smile says a lot about us and
our teeth are a big part of that. We have six tips for you
to make sure that you can alw
ays flash a sexy smile w
ith healthy w
hite teeth and feel a million dollars as w
ell.
A Religious Experience
Just like mum
used to say the only way to keep those cavities at bay is
to brush and floss, religiously, every day. In fact whether it is a religious
experience or not all dentists will recom
mend that you brush your teeth tw
ice a day to keep them
healthy and looking good and to exorcize those pesky bacteria. It’s also a good idea to take a portable version of a toothbrush and som
e floss with you in your handbag for running repairs through the day.
Some like it H
ot…..
Switching from
hot to cold is not something that our teeth like. Extrem
es of tem
perature can actually cause expansion in the tooth that can lead to cracking of the enam
el. Using a straw
to keep hot and very cold fluids aw
ay from teeth is a great idea to avoid shocking or even dam
aging your gnashers.
Keep up the fluid intake (w
ater!)
Keeping hydrated will not only keep your skin glow
ing with health
but it does wonders for your pearly w
hites too. Taking plenty of H
20 on board prom
otes saliva production that helps in the fight against bacteria. Tap w
ater also contains fluoride of the type found in toothpastes and m
outhwashes so the best thing you
can do to keep that sexy smile is to drink up!
You Are W
hat You Eat
Your teeth certainly reflect what you eat and a
mouth full of rotten and discoloured teeth is not
sexy at all. Another old adage that w
e learned at m
um’s knee - an apple a day keeps the
doctor away - can also be applied to
keeping the dentist away too. Raw
veg and fruit and calcium
rich foods are all great for the teeth but sw
eet stuff is best
avoided if you want to avoid cavities. If
you do have sweet tooth how
ever, just m
ake sure you brush it afterwards!
Visit your dentist
Visiting the dentist and hygienist
twice a year for check ups is
probably the best thing you can do to m
ake sure you have a sexy sm
ile. Your dentist can recom
mend treatm
ents to m
ake your smile the sexiest
it can be and can check for any other problem
s at the sam
e time. C
atching a cavity early can m
ean preventing it turning into a root canal job!

Nobody likes toothache. The pain that it causes can vary a lot from
something that is really quite a m
ild pain to som
ething that throbs and aches and doesn’t let up. The reason behind the pain might originate
from the centre of the tooth, the nerve centre, called the pulp. This nerve centre is giving you w
arning signals that som
ething is not right. There are always em
ergency appointment slots available so that if
you are in pain you can see us fast. We w
ill be sure to ensure that not only the pain but any underlying problem
is resolved.
Here are ten reasons for toothache:
5455
£2,995
1. Recent Dental Treatm
ent.
If you have recently been in the dentist chair some pain in the pulp
or centre of the tooth is normal as it recovers. If the pain does not
go away w
ithin the time you have been told it w
ill, we w
ill be happy to see you.
2. Erosion of tooth Enamel.
Acids that are in your diet and gastric
fluids from acid reflux or vom
iting can erode tooth enam
el, and lead to pain.
3. A Cavity
Many bacteria feed on particles
of food that are left between
our teeth. The acid produced w
ill eventually lead to the enamel
being eroded to the dentin below,
and that will give rise to pain.
4. Receding gums.
If the gums recede the sensitive
tooth roots will be exposed and
that will cause pain. This could be a
sing of periodontitis, and will require
treatment.
5. Ill fitting fillings or fillings that have fallen out.
Fillings seal off
areas of previous decay so if they are loose or ill fitting, particles of food and bacteria w
ill be able to get in and cause irritation to the nerve endings.
6. Cracks, C
hips or Fractured teeth.
Teeth can develop weakness because of the pressure of chew
ing and biting and or as a result of tooth grinding. If fractures and cracks develop in the enam
el and the nerve endings are exposed, you will
feel pain.
7. Periodontitis.
This is a condition that results from tissues supporting the teeth
becoming infected w
ith a plaque build up, along the lines of the gum
s, causing inflamm
ation. If the infection becomes
severe it may eventually travel to the dental pulp and cause
severe pain.
8. An A
bscess.
An abscess is a pus filled sac caused of infection. A
n abscess w
ill occur most com
monly in the space betw
een the teeth and the gum
s or at the tooth root.
9. Tooth Grinding/Jaw
Clenching - Bruxism
.
This habit will put a lot of pressure on the teeth, gradually
wearing them
down and m
aking the jaws very painful.
10. Referred Pain
.
Sometim
es another tooth or another area of the body m
ight give rise to the pain felt in a specific tooth or in other areas of the m
outh.
Never suff
er your tooth pain in silence.
Get in touch and w
e will soon
have you smiling again. A
full exam
ination will reveal
the problem and any other
underlying conditions that m
ight need treatment.
