The Sky Surf was invented by two French skydivers,Dominique Jacquet and Jean-Pascal Oron in 1986 but itbecame popular and gained recognition during the 1990sthanks to the efforts of the first few exponents to masterthe more complex aerobatics, such as the late Patrick deGayardon. The rise of skysurfing coincided with other
new-age disciplines in skydiving, such as freestyle andfreeflying. Freestyle skydiving is a balletic, mostlyindividual style which seeks to extend the sport beyondthe traditional belly-to-earth flat position used by mostskydivers who make formations with their bodies.
Freeflying is also a form of skydiving using a variety of
body positions, such as head-down or feet-to-earth, whilestill building formations with others. These evolutions inskydiving have taken the sport further away from thetraditional image of a daredevil stunt.
Skysurfing reached its peak in popularity in the late1990s.

The boards used are generally smallerthan actual surfboards, and look morelike snowboards or large skateboards.
The attachment to the feet is normallymade removable, so that if the skydiverloses control or has difficulty openingtheir parachute, the board can be
jettisoned.

Skysurfing is a skill requiring considerable practice. Thesimplest skysurfing technique is to stand upright on theboard during freefall, and tilt the nose of the board downto generate forward movement. However even this basictechnique is a balancing act which experienced skydiversfind tricky to learn. The extra drag of the board tends to
upset the balance and make the skydiver flip over. Thejumper must also learn to control the board and theirbody position so as to open the parachute in a stableconfiguration. More advanced aerobatics such as loops, rolls and helicopter spins, are more difficult still and aretackled once the basics have been mastered.

As an athlete, during his stunts keep the axisthrough the center of gravity will continue tocontrol and dominate the situation, if axismoves begin to lose control of his body and start
to spin wildly in every direction, moving this axisgenerally towards the feet. Then begin to makebig circles around the table so that thecentrifugal force will cause blood to pool in the
subject's head and losing consciousness.
