Sideways Stories from Wayside
School
Wayside School was supposed to be built as a one-story building with 30 classrooms. Instead it was built
sideways, 30-stories tall, with one room on each floor!
Each chapter of this book introduces us to a new character. Characters included are teachers, students, a yard teacher,
and the cafeteria lady.
In this story, we encounter students who sleep in class, dead rats wearing
raincoats, and little girls that try to sell their toes.
We also meet teachers that turn children into apples, ice cream flavors named
after students, and a boy that can’t help but pull on pigtails.
There are students that can only read upside down, a boy named Nancy, and a non-existent teacher on the non-existent
19th story.
Find out more about the quirks of Wayside School as you read the humorous tale by Louis Sachar.
