Designed to achieve very fine preparation of sugar caneby separating the fibres and opening the cell wallefficiently. This allows the subsequent extraction processto maximise the removal of the sucrose bearing juicefrom the prepared cane.

Only hammer type shreddershave achieved over 90 PI consistentlyand only the original Tongaat designdoes this with efficient energyconversion and minimum wear – outperforming all other types.

Cost effectiveThe shredding action by the equipmentexposes more fibre particles and rupturesa high degree of sucrose bearing cells.This process achieves two objectives:

1) Excellent juice extraction at eachstage of extraction process.

2) Increases bulk density of the preparedcane, thereby increasing the capacity ofthe extraction plant.

Absorbed power by milling orde-watering mills reduced, due to a

change in the mill setting configuration.Lower residual sucrose content in finalbagasse improves overall recovery andprovides excellent return on investment.

Unique designThe FS/Tongaat shredder has beendesigned by operating mill engineers tomeet their own very demandingspecifications.

The patented rotor design gives completecoverage over the width of the machine.The swing hammers overlap each otherslightly to ensure that there is total sweptarea coverage – even when worn.

Heavy duty constructionThe FS/Tongaat shredder is an extremelyrobust fabricated assembly. The casing issubstantially ribbed to provide a rigidsupport for the rotor bearings and canalso be arranged to carry a set ofrotating cane knives or a feed distributoron the top of the casing. Thisarrangement ensures an even feed ofcane into the shredder – most importantfor optimum results.

The grid plate is hinged and located insuch a way that even large pieces oftramp iron can pass through withoutsignificant damage to the shredder.

The method of mounting the hammersin the unique rotor enables easy removaland replacement without the need toremove any part of the casing. Thisminimises down-time.
