E aster is the high point of the year for
us as Christians. We celebrate that
Christ is indeed arisen. The old, traditional
greeting for Easter among Christians was
an affirmation of this holy Mystery, “Christ
is Risen.” The response is, “Indeed, He is
Risen.”
Christians greet each other with the joyful
news of our living God and Savior’s Resur-
rection. After having left it behind for the
40 days of Lent, we, during this great
Easter Season, bring back the ancient word
of praise, “ALLELUIA.” This Hebrew word
meaning, “all praise He Who Is,” is almost
never translated because we, and Christians
of all ages, can feel in it the very sense of
prayer and rejoicing that it brings.
May we all find great Hope during this
Easter Season in the knowledge that our
God and Savior is alive and that He has
made eternal life a real possibility for
us. Let us turn to God in love and thanks-
giving as we sing in our hearts and lives the
eternal “ALLELUIA.”
For each of us, it should be a time in
which we personally embrace the Resurrec-
tion. Whether it be from past sins, neglect,
or just a general apathy in regards to things
spiritual, we should reflect during this
Easter Season on ways in which we can
open up our lives more fully to the Good
News. Whether we have been slumbering in
a nightmare of sin or dragged down into a
general malaise of indifference, we should
awaken with the confidence that Christ has
Arisen and that all things are possible with
Him.

W e were blessed last year with the
addition of two hymn boards on
either side of the sanctuary. Being that these
were custom made and donated by a parish-
ioner, we were able to design our own
schema for number-
ing which I think de-
serves a bit of ex-
plaining.
There are three
forms of the Latin
Rite Mass at Holy
Rosary, and each ser-
vice has different mu-
sical programs. The
Anglican Use Mass
(8 a.m.) has a printed
bulletin which con-
tains most musical references, so its music
is not represented by hymn boards. The Or-
dinary Form (OF) and Extraordinary Form
(EF) Mass attendees however will find al-
most all of the references they need in order
to follow along with the music at their re-
spective services.
The numbers used are in reference to the
blue Saint Michael Hymnal.
(A) The top line — prefaced by “†” —
indicates the Mass ordinary setting. At the
OF, the number references the Kyrie with
the remaining Gloria, Sanctus and Agnus
Dei following from the hymnal in consecu-
tive numerical order. At the EF, the tradi-
tional Gregorian Mass setting number is
given — some of these settings are in the
Saint Michael Hymnal but all of them can
be found in the Kyriale.
(B) The second and bottom lines — pref-
aced by “*” — indicate the opening and
closing hymns at both the OF and EF
Masses. Additionally, the bottom line will
have the number of our closing Marian An-
tiphon.
(C) The third and fourth lines are only for
the OF Masses and represent the Offertory
and Communion hymns, respectively.
Since we sing the Credo at the EF, I try to
include its number setting in the Sunday
bulletin every week as part of this column.

T he resurrection, then, is not a theory, but a historical reality revealed by
the man Jesus Christ by means of His “Passover,” His “passage,” that has
opened a “new way” between heaven and earth (cf. Heb 10:20). It is neither a myth
nor a dream, it is not a vision or a utopia, it is not a fairy tale, but it is a singular
and unrepeatable event: Jesus of Nazareth, son of Mary, who at dusk on Friday
was taken down from the Cross and buried, has victoriously left the tomb. — Pope Benedict XVI, Urbi et Orbi message, Easter 2009
