About us
Shale Plays Media has become the leading digital content network focused on the
emerging global shale energy revolution. Our organization is dedicated to providing the
most comprehensive selection of news, jobs and educational information about this
dynamic new industry. Our global network of websites, e-mail, social media and mobile
platforms allow us to reach a unique audience no other media organization can target.
In less than one year our Marcellus.com, Bakken.com, and Eaglefordtexas.com
communities have dominated in their respective shale plays. In August 2014,
the company will launch EnergyJobsHQ, the largest source of shale related energy jobs
in the world. Based in Fargo, North Dakota, Shale Plays Media has assembled a team of
more than 20 professionals dedicated to building a world class media organization.
Our search for shale related news and industry information was initially directed at
what was happening in our own community in the Western North Dakota Bakken.
We soon realized that shale related information was highly fragmented and hard to
navigate. We started with the simple concept of putting all relevant shale industry
information into a comprehensive service.

Shale Breakdown by Size & Location
Meet The Content TeamThe Bakken formation spans over 200,000 square miles in areas of North Dakota, Montana, and Saskatchewan. It is estimated to hold up to 40 billion barrels of oil, and is second only to Eagle Ford in production. After the discovery of the Parshall Oil Field in 2006, a once remote and quiet North Dakota is experiencing its biggest population boom ever. Because of the recent boom, North Dakota is now ranked #1 in the nation for job growth.
-Lydia Gilbertson
The Eagle Ford Shale is a rock formation in South Texas containing vast reserves of oil and gas. There is more money invested in the Eagle Ford than any other shale development worldwide, and with an estimated 7-10 billion barrels still underground, Texas promises to remain an integral component of domestic production.
-John Deede
The Marcellus shale is a sedimentary deposit in the Northeastern United States. Named for the town of Marcellus, New York near where it was discovered, the formation spans much of the Appalachian basin, including Ohio, Pennsylvania, West Virginia, Virginia and Tennessee. It is the largest source of natural gas in the country and is estimated to have created over 250,000 jobs.
-Shane Thielges
Colliding tectonic plates and dying dinosaurs gave birth to the Niobrara shale play and the Rocky Mountains perched above it. Modest estimates of its production potential has the region poised to join the ranks of the Bakken in No. Dak. and the Eagle Ford in Texas. Located mostly in Colorado and extending into Wyoming and Nebraska, the formation is changing the landscape of energy consumption locally as well as throughout the western United States.
-Zach Koppang
The Permian Basin is found in West Texas and Southeast New Mexico. This up and coming collection of shale plays are giving the Bakken and the neighboring Eagle Ford a run for their money. In May, The Permian Basin lead the nation in horizontal drilling growth and experts have claimed that the Permian is expected to pull ahead of all other U.S. tight oil plays in production by 2020.
-Zachary Toliver
Recent natural gas demand is breathing new life into this shale play. Haynesville has a massive concentration of dry gas, and now that both domestic and export demands are rising, business in the area is flaring up (metaphorically speaking).
