To Open Up to the Spirit
What happened in Créteil since one point of
our community goal started with “to open
up to the Spirit”?
Our community looks at some events where
God beckons:
- The pastoral service of the popular
districts which the Bishop has made
his priority this year, has deployed in
us an attention and a presence to what
is happening in our neighborhood:
Volume 17 No 3 – June 2018 3
Presence in the “House for All” by participating in different activities: gym, sewing
workshop, activities with the children on Wednesday, etc.
Presence at the Block Party, which brings together the different social actors, and where
the presence of the sisters is greatly appreciated.
Presence to our Capuchins brothers, newly arrived who invite their neighbors (Christians
and Muslims) to the feast of St Anthony; the blessing of the statue of St Francis delighted
the hearts willing simplicity and attention.
Presence at the garden shared by the inhabitants of the neighborhood
Presence at the barbecue party with the people of our block at the beginning and the end
of the year
Presence at the Diocesan celebration with the people of the popular areas.
- The week of accompanied prayer has made real
the need of offering a deepening of the Word of
God.
Thus, after living with parishioners of Créteil, the
accompanied prayer week, sister Ghislaine felt the call
to propose a follow-up for people who want to continue
the use of the Word of God by making a "House of
Gospel", monthly.
What a joy to hear a lady say: "Now the Word of God is
no more for me a story but a living Word."

Pilgrimage to Bellevue
Last May, to mark the anniversary of my perpetual vows in the
church Our Lady of Bellevue, S. Marie-Anna Marceau and me,
attended Sunday mass in the parish. We then visited our former *
Home for young girls * rue Ernest Renan. We had arrived in that
community in 1966-1967.
What a joy for us to be hosted
by a young Maronite priest,
who took time to make us visit
the Park and the House. He
was interested in the history of
our congregation who has lived
in this residence.
The chapel remains the place of worship of this Bishop’s
palace.
The SSCM will be always welcome in this Maronite brothers’ house in Bellevue.

Feast of the Holy Heart of Mary at Montgeron
At Montgeron, on June 9, 2018, we solemnized the feast of the Holy Heart of Mary. All the
sisters were present as well as the affiliates. Father Gabriel Vuittenez, superior of the spiritan
community of the 30, rue Lhomond, celebrated the
Eucharist. After mass, two new affiliates made their
promise, then all the affiliates renewed theirs. Father
Gabriel Vuittenez, a former missionary in
Madagascar during 24 years, wanted to be present
for the reception of Marie-Bernadette, Madagascan,
as he knew her for a long time. She and Marie-
Yvonne, from Melun, committed themselves for the
first time. The photo shows Father Gabriel blessing
the new affiliates.

Goodbye, Catherine
Today, on June 21st, 2018, we say goodbye to our nurse.
13 years in service with our elderly sisters, Catherine has found her place in our House by being
adapted to the circumstances, events and care of each one. Her warm presence made a serene life
for our sisters. She poured into the hearts all the love that the Lord and the Virgin Mary put in
hers. She accompanied 23 Sisters and 3 ‘’Moms’’ to the doorstep of the House of the Lord.
All the Sisters of the region and the employees of our house of Montgeron have shared the meal
and evoked so many memories... The time of the gift was a moment of intense emotion as she
discovered a frame collecting the pictures of all the sisters she has known.
Happy to retire, which will leave her more available to her family, she will not fail to greet her
"sisters". Thank you Catherine!

Charism Presentation
The actual title of our Committee is SHARING OUR CHARISM COMMITTEE. The
Committee was begun in 2014. It consists of six Sisters and 6 lay women. The Mandate given to
the CHARISM Committee was “to see to the oversight and development of present programs, to
see to the development of means to promote the SSCM charism through membership in vowed
life and through various ways of association with the SSCM’s.”
To be able to bring together the 12 members of the committee to a common understanding of
what CHARISM meant and how we see it in our everyday lives was the first project on the
UNITED STATES
Volume 17 No 3 – June 2018 5
agenda. As a tool to do this, the book entitled Charism by Father Laurent Boisvert was obtained
and reflected on at our first meetings.
We chose then to include at the beginning of all of our meetings a time of sharing on Charism.
That sharing on Charism has been a great help to us in forming a common bond in our committee
and of stretching and deepening our understanding of Charism.
The Mandate of the Committee “to see to the oversight and development of present programs”
meant that the Committee would look at each of our existing programs; The Vocation Program,
the Affiliate Program begun in 1982, the Servant Companion Program approved in 2011, the
Consecrated Laity Program initiated in 2012, the Delaplace Prayer Ministry approved in 2014.
One of our first projects after coming to an understanding of the programs was to develop
literature for each program that would be separate
but that all of the literature would resemble each
other. (The committee worked with a wonderful
local graphic artist and printer company. The
relationship was so enriching for both involved that
we have become good friends.)
Another project was to prepare and present a
Charism Workshop given at our new Province
Center in Kankakee and at Nazareth Spirituality
Center in Batavia. The initial workshop was
designed to familiarize our affiliates and friends in both communities with Charism and with the
17th
Century French School of Spirituality. (At our first workshop we focused on the Founders of
the French School. We looked at the values of those leaders and the ways they shared those
values. We reflected on the way in which those gospel values were lived and handed down
through the centuries and how we live them today. The same values lived and expressed in
different but graced ways today.)
A second Charism Workshop centered on the theme of our history here in the United States and
how our Charism was lived out in those ministries. We are currently working on another
workshop to be held this coming October. (This
workshop focuses in on Faith, Self-Giving and
Family Spirit. We will look at each and ask what it
is? Use an activity that will help all experience the
charism and then we have asked witnesses to say
how they have lived it).
Our Committee time is usually interesting, filled
with energy and productivity. That also seems to be
a good definition of the presence of the Holy Spirit
active in our midst.
Meeting of the General Council with the
Charism Committee
6 Volume 17 N
o 3 - June 2018
Several years ago, Father Frank Morrissey stated that as long as there are persons attracted to our
charism, this is a sign of the Holy Spirit that our Charism is still needed in the Church in the
world. It is a conviction of this truth that gives us so much energy and love. One of our latest acts
in the Committee was to ask the Province Leader and the Council if Leadership might appoint a
lay woman as our Vocation Directress. The request was granted and the Vocation Directress is a
vital part of our Committee. (The Committee is her support group and her brainstorming group).
We are constantly aware of the question, “In what ways can we share our Charism with others?”
and we look for ways that that might be implemented.

75 Years of Religious Profession...
The chosen date, March 3, 2018, for my 75th anniversary of religious profession was,
at the same time, when the Cross of Evangelization was in Saint-Eloi-les-Mines,
MÉKINAC. What a coincidence!
At 3 pm, in the chapel of this service, several
people from five Christian communities of the new parish
of Holy Heart of Mary came to prayer time, which was
followed by the Eucharistic celebration offered at my
intentions and celebrated by the Abbot Benoît Matiri. A
group of affiliates was present; my brother Raymond and
sister-in-law Jacqueline Benoît came from Quebec. The
choirs of the three former Christian communities Saint-
Eloi, Saint-Rémi and Notre-Dame-des-Anges raised the
celebration. A choir-member, Mr. Jacques Leblanc, to my great surprise, sang: "Dieu seul, Dieu
seul.". At the sound of his voice, my heart rejoiced.
After the mass, Mr. Florent Girard, on behalf of the affiliates gave me a gift: St. Joseph lying
sleeping deeply. The liturgy team of the three former Christian communities offered me a
beautiful wreath of white flowers.
Sister Céline Boilard, my community companion, thanked the
Assembly and especially all the people who came to share with us the
joy of this anniversary. Finally, the same singer interpreted the song: O
Holy heart of Mary, a major first since the formation of the new parish.
Really, this has exceeded my expectations. We came back home, at
5:45 pm, with our guests, Mr Benoît Matiri, priest moderator, my
brother and my sister-in-law, to eat and continue to share our feelings.
This feast was spent with joy and filled with love. Thanks to sister
Céline, who arranged everything and all those present in body and mind
for their affection near the Lord.

A Small Wink of Affiliation
For 27 years, my spouse and I are affiliated with the beautiful family of the Servants of the Holy
Heart of Mary. We find there a good way of ‘’resourcement’’ for our life as married couple. We
belong to the Group Mary of Nazareth attached to the House of 37, avenue des Cascades.
The year just ending allowed us to live within the group, but also with the religious activities:
prayer time to prepare the feast of Christmas, Marian celebration, renewal of our commitments '
on the occasion of the Vespers... Precisely, on June 3
2018, we lived the celebration of the first engagement in
the affiliation of Mrs. Carole Blackburn. These moments
of prayer with the Community mean a lot to people
affiliated of our group. Praying in the chapel brings
more to our interiority.
It is with a lot of nostalgia that we see the Sisters leaving
37, avenue des Cascades to be relocated at 2500,
Camille-Lefebvre Street, Quebec. But we will continue
the mission and embodying the charism of Francis and
Jeanne-Marie on a daily basis. Let us make our own these words of our Founder: "Often,
obstacles seem insurmountable. What’s to be done? Pray. »

Sudden Death of Father Jean-Claude, Lafleur, ofm capuchin,
Chaplain at the Provincial House 37, Avenue des Cascades, Québec
This is the message of condolence addressed on May 14, 2018 to
the Capuchins at a mass offered for the repose of the soul of Father
Jean-Claude Lafleur:
Dear Father André Chicoine and your dear friars,
At the Eucharist, this afternoon, we carry in our prayer the good
father Jean-Claude Lafleur, whose earthly pilgrimage ended with
his pilgrimage to the Virgin of Lourdes, on May 7.
This unexpected departure leaves a great void to our Capuchins
friends as well as to the Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary, both Francis of Assisi and Francis
Delaplace being so close.
Our deepest condolences to you, Father André Chicoine, Father Jacques Mathieu, guardian, to all
of you at the monastery of Limoilou and to your religious family! We deeply share your sorrow.
8 Volume 17 N
o 3 - June 2018
We also want to give thanks to God the Father for the extraordinary mission accomplished by
dear Father Lafleur. This born educator marked generations of young people; his generous heart
accompanied: poor and voiceless; his priestly soul proclaimed the Word of God and
accomplished his ministry with great fervor; his generosity and sense of humor were
proverbial. We greatly benefit of it and we thank him very warmly. We pray to the Lord to welcome his worthy son of St Francis and we beg to intercede for all
people Father Lafleur has known, loved and served. May he rest in the peace of the Lord!

A Centennial to celebrate! In the Holy
Heart of Mary Province, this is a first:
celebrating 100 years of a sister and 80
years of consecrated life; It's all a burst
of Thanksgiving to offer.
Yes, on Sunday February 11, it was a
great celebration at 30 des Cascades, as
guests came from different places to
celebrate the centenary of our dear sister
Alice Tardif.
First, there was a time of welcome and spontaneous sharings of our superior general, Sister
Kathleen Mulchay, of several Sisters Servants of the Holy Heart of Mary and Tardif family
members. It was the joy of the reunion and above all happiness to celebrate a Centennial.
Then, we go to the chapel for a moment of Thanksgiving with the Eucharistic celebration
presided by Father Albert. Everything was bright, solemn and chosen for the occasion: Word of
God, comments, songs and music, not to mention the flowery decoration. The heart was at the
party.
A festive meal in the cafeteria followed the joy of the Eucharistic celebration. The kitchen team
put all their heart for a meal equal to our Jubilee sister and her guests.
We recognize in Sister Alice a woman of hope that she is and always was. To illustrate, let me
borrow a few sentences from the tribute that Sister Ginette Hardy addressed during the meal.
"Your happiness, your thoughtfulness, your empathy make you a charming woman with whom life
is good. Your responses very appropriate still testify to your quick wit. Woman of contemplation,
every day, you spend hours in prayer and worship. You are open to change and new things. You
still have a great interest in news; you are a regular reader of the newspaper. The events of the
Congregation echoed in your heart, you are aware of what is lived in the different countries."
Volume 17 No 3 – June 2018 9
We could still continue... On notes of warm congratulations again repeated for the wonders that
the Lord did in our dear sister Alice and with her, the day ends on a harmonious Symphony of
good wishes and marks of appreciation. Congratulations Sister Alice and we wish to continue a
long way on your way!

The Celebration of the Golden Jubilee
On June 2, 2018, the beautiful chapel of our family house, at 37, Avenue of waterfalls, in Quebec
City, shone brilliantly to celebrate the Jubilee of four of our sisters, S. Céline Martineau, S. Alice
allaire, S. Noelline Turgeon, and S. Colette Dostie.
After this time of Thanksgiving to the God of their
life, to whom they gave all their strength and their
talents, the party continued with a fraternal meal
where the joy of celebrating with their own
families, sisters and friends seemed obvious.
This meeting allows you to reconnect with bonds
weaved by years of service and various
commitments and presence to the world and to the
Church.
S. Kathleen Mulchay, sign of the fraternal
communion of the whole congregation, is in the
center of the picture.

An Educator Mission That Continues...
As an educator, I continue to work with joy, for the knowledge of the child which maintains the
youthfulness of the heart. The wonders of nature reveal the glory of God. The child, as well as
the flower begins to grow in fertile ground for the awakening of his person.
For that, a lot of qualities must be attributed to the teacher: affection, patience, listening,
creativity, resourcefulness, respect, etc. Thanks be to God, I
think I was called for this career, which is a long journey to
plan, to be able to open the door to the positive, to the beauty
of life.
I always liked children, be they little or small or older. I do
not regret my 40 years of teaching and I am proud to extend
by giving recycling regardless of the degree, to the youth of
the Holy heart of Mary day school. These young make me
live with their candid thoughts and the explosion of their joy
in front of a success.

Let Us Protect Life! Let Us Protect The Environment!
Since the session on the spirituality of Creation, lived in February with sisters Lise Lavallée and
Susana Teruel, aware to the theme of the
protection of our common home, we wondered as
team of pastoral for Vocations how to help
educate others regarding this reality. So we think
of taking benefit of the workshops Maria Moisan
to transmit to the children the values of
environmental protection. With games, songs, the
message of the Holy Father in Laudato Si, the
Word of God, the life of Marie Moisan, children from three of our communities: Arroyo Apolo,
Florida y Santa Cruz del Norte, have discovered little by little the beauty of our planet, the
importance of each one, the urgency and the responsibility of taking care. They expressed their
commitment by drawings, posters, the collection
of waste on the edge of the sea in Santa Cruz del
Norte, the seed of a plant. One of the children, 8
years Brayan said: «I liked seeing the message of
the Holy Father, asking us to take care of the
planet." I want to tell the world that we should no
longer contaminate nature, that we should no
longer throw waste in the sea »

The Little Community of Holy Family of El Cristo
The little community of Holy Family of El Cristo in Santiago de Cuba, tried to implement the
orientations of the 2016 General Chapter, for this we have been faithful to our daily biblical
prayer, we decided to do the mission between the
two and to be sign of community in the people.
One of the two sisters agreed to give a course of
bible on Lectio Divina, in two Christian
communities of the country, at the easternmost
border of the diocese.
We initiated the Group Orantes, with women
who pray for our intentions and feed from our
spiritual heritage with the monthly newsletter and

As we have a wide land, we take care of our property, eating what we cultivate with organic

We continue to visit our neighbors and the families of the village in moments of joy or sorrow.
We try to use e-mail and phone calls to be close to people in

During Advent, we went out on the street carrying Mary and

Restoring the Strengths of a Traumatized Person: An Easter Experience in Nuevitas
From April 28 to May 2, a group of 45 people lived an intense experience of "Easter" in the
parish of Nuevitas, in the North of Camaguey. It was a “'caravan of restoration of human vital
strengths in the traumatic experience': four days of training for individuals who were deeply
affected by the hurricane "Irma" - which struck Cuba
last September - or by another traumatic
situation. The animation team consisted of eight
religious men and women religious, three arrived
from Montreal (a Honduran, a Peruvian and a
Haitian), another of Haiti (a Brazilian missionary)
and four religious of Cuba, all trained at the Institute
of Integral Human formation of Montreal (IFHIM).
The people arrived with for fears, sadness, rage, resentment, guilt... but with the desire to stand
up, to recover the confidence and the joy of growing up in the inner freedom, to be "restored." In
the afternoon of Tuesday, May 2, when returning home, all recognized with admiration and
gratitude, the change that was operated within them and which can be seen on their faces, their
smiles, and even in their body posture: inner peace, joy of living, release of guilt, steps of
reconciliation... even you already discovered fruits shining on their families and closest friends! It
is the strength of the Easter at work in the hearts...!

Echoes of our Vocational Activities
The vocational Committee of our region directed its activities this year under the
theme of the next Synod of youth: "Youth, Faith and Vocation Discernment." In April,
a vocational session gathering 57
girls held at the Marie Moisan Center of
Mbalmayo with the theme: "Young today, How
do you live your Faith?” Our S. Hortense
Nyamouth helped them to discover how to live
their faith on a daily basis practice.
On Sunday May 8. 2018, we went out to Ekam –
Ndama, town of Akonolinga, Jesus the good
Shepherd Parish of the diocese of Mbalmayo, to reach out to the youth for promoting the culture
of vocations and daring to offer the SSCM
consecrated life. What a joy to see so many
young people in research and thirsty to
discover their vocation! In June, we had a
vocational camp of 6 days in Mbalmayo and
a 3 days spiritual retreat for our older
aspirants. Thanks for keeping us and all of
them in your prayers.

The Family Spirit at Our Lady of Victories College
In the college of Our Lady of victories, the SSCM team
there, works with the staff for complete formation of the
students. We also do our best to transmit the spirit of our
Founders. What has been significant throughout this
school year is the family spirit that exists between
students, parents, and coaches. At happy events, such as
the Festival of our Lady of Victories, the teachers of each
class with their students promoted conviviality through a
shared
meal. For the staff, the Family spirit is lived through
the celebrations of birthdays. On May 1St

sharing the joy of exchanging gifts and strengthening
the bonds. These moments of joy are the
characteristic of our college and our entire

'The Effects Which Arouse the Experience of Mutual
Confirmation': One of the Fruits of the International
Meeting of Young Members of the Congregation Lived in
France from May 15 to July 13, 2017.
Providence decided that three sisters who have lived this
experience make up our community. The challenge became
bigger for us... Under the impulse of the spirit, our Region wanted to grow more this year in "the
taking care". As a result, our community is inspired by this symbol.
The mutual confirmation was one of our chosen means. That bears
many fruits within us, such as the joy of the consecration, the inner
vitality of the positive energies, the regular dialogue between us, the
ability to adjust to the unexpected and many others... We continue our
experience which models us within and gives us a true and deep peace.
