One of the tunes the students at the Tjungu Music Camp learned was the Bob Marley song “One Love”. Tammy tells the students about “Verse” and “Chorus”. Chorus -‐ is the repeated bit of the song, the words often has the Main Idea and the song returns to this bit over and over. In this one, “One Love!” Verse -‐ is musically different to the chorus and the words are different in each verse. The music of the verse is basically the same for each time, but the words change. The verse tells the story of the song. The song “One Love” starts with the Chorus. C G One love, one heart F C G C Let's get together and feel all right C Hear the children crying (One love) G Hear the children crying (One heart) F C G C Sayin', "Give thanks and praise to the Lord and I will feel all right." F C G C Sayin', "Let's get together and feel all right." You can change chords using the words as a guide, or you can count the BEATs. In this diagram there are 4 beats in each square – which is called a bar -‐ and each beat can be counted as ONE and TWO and THREE and FOUR and. The “and” is halfway between beats. X2 4 Beats of C 4 Beats of G 2 Beats F, 2 Beats C 2 Beats G, 2 Beats C

By the Way. These songs are written out in the Key of C. If you listen to the Bob Marley version of the song, it will sound like different notes. This is because the 2 versions of the song are in different keys! (Bob Marley starts on the B chord, not C) For a great way to play with Bobby McFerrin’s song, go to this website, you can hear all his different vocals parts, and mix them yourself! http://bobbymcferrin.com/dont-‐worry-‐be-‐happy-‐song/

On the VAMPtv news we see that Miranda Tapsell won 2 awards for her acting in the television series “Love Child”. Miranda started acting when she was a young girl, she did it because she loved ‘playing dress ups in the loungeroom.” You can see a feature on Miranda Tapsell on episode 46 of VAMPtv You too can have fun with acting/drama, you don’t have to want to be a film star to enjoy it! Here is a fun game that you could play in your class!
One Word At A Time
• In a circle, the story is started, with each person in turn adding one word. • It usually starts with 'Once -‐ upon -‐ a -‐ time'. • The first person says “once, the next person says “upon”, the next “a” and the
next “time”. • The next person has to continue the story by adding their own word, and round it
goes! This game can be fun as you never know how the story will go! It encourages creativity, develops listening and storytelling skills, and allows people to cooperate in group work. http://dramaresource.com/games/story-‐telling/one-‐word-‐at-‐a-‐time
