PAST PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE: Hello Fellow Mashies, The last 4 months have been very busy, interesting, and challenging. This was to be

your president for the last 4 years, Thank you for your participation and support. Now
that I am fully retired, I can work on some of the many “honey-do’s” that I was able

some new members since that time, below is a list of the Desert Mashie Officers for
2016 and 2017. I have also listed the Tournament Director, as well as the
Membership Chair, as these are two officers whom you might need to contact from
time to time.

Desert Mashie members Craig Mills, who was the Club Champion, and Tony Brister who
was the President’s Cup winner, played their way and won free entry into this year’s Club Championship which will be held Sept. 17 and 18 at San Marcos Golf Resort.

This trip was self-supporting, and there was no expense to our Club. We had prizes
for everyone, sang, played games, watched movies, and were serenaded by our own Dan Moss. The bus ride was very relaxing, and everyone seemed to have had a great
time. Also, Valley View’s hospitality suite was very spacious, comfortable and accommodating. We had an ample supply of fried catfish and chicken, with all the
trimmings. To sum it up, their hospitality was “off the chain”!
I’m sure you can tell by the number of Desert Mashie winners hi-lited above, we represented well. Below are some photos which were captured at this event.
This was Lillian’s 1st bus trip. And, Carol’s too. Lets’ do Where is our REAL bus

And here are some of our winners.
Just because Harold G. didn’t win in golf A-n-d, looks like Rodney won, also!
doesn’t mean he was not a winner…. See the Or, maybe he’s just showing off Golf bag in his hand! one of his fancy dance moves.

We couldn’t miss our AVP and It looks like Pat is real proud of her
Madame Pres. certificate.
In early December, 2015, several Desert Mashie members traveled up to Rancho Mirage (Palm Springs area) to participate in the Tri-Club Classic Annual Invitational
Tournament which was held on December 5 and 6.
The temperature had cooled down a bit, and we thought golfing would be a bit easier, unfortunately, not as many winners. Congratulations to Pat Crawford – she did us
proud.

Now that you have been introduced to Mike Nelson through his many photos from
Desert Trails Annual tournament in September, 2015, below is a look at his public life. Not only does he enjoy Arizona and a good game of golf whenever the weather
permits in Cleveland, or when he gets a chance to come out here, he is also very busy and active at home. Mike has been nominated as President of the Cleveland Chapter
of the NAACP. Please congratulate Mike when you see him on this prestigious position.

AZ/CO Women in golf had the pleasure of hosting last year’s 25th Anniversary
North/South Shootout event which was held Oct. 2 – 4, 2015. Desert Mashie was the host club, and the outing was held at the Wigwam Golf Resort in Litchfield Park, AZ.
Many of the WSGA clubs were represented at this great event.
Pat Crawford who was the Women in Golf Rep for AZ/CO at that time, and her committee put on a great tournament which was enjoyed by all. Independent local
vendors were on site, offering the participants and visitors the opportunity to purchase some of their one-of-a-kind products. .
A special thank you to the members of Desert Mashie, (both ladies and gentlemen),
for volunteering two days at this event. Their assistance with both on and off the
course activities helped make this a smooth running tournament. For two great days, they had great food, excellent accommodations, great comradery, fun hospitality,
great prizes, and a challenging course.
Lauren Blumears was the tee sign poster girl for the tournament. We had 40 signs throughout the Patriot Course with her youthful face.
At the end of this great tournament, the South Clubs were the Champions for the 25th Anniversary North/South Shootout……………..CONGATULATIONS!!
Below are some photos from this event.

Desert Mashie Spring Championships, March 12-13, 2016
The Desert Mashie Spring Championships was the brain child of our membership and
was born in 1981, and then became a Junior Golf Association Arizona (JGAA) event in 1992. This year’s tournament will be held March 12-13 at both Encanto golf courses.
It is time again for Desert Mashie Golf Club Members and friends to volunteer to work
during this tournament. Our support to the JGAA helps to make this tournament a tremendous success. Over the past several years you have provided outstanding
support to this annual tournament. I am looking forward to another banner volunteer effort from us again this year.
There are numerous positions we can fill to help the JGAA continue their outstanding
junior golf tournament management program. The JGAA will utilize your assistance wherever your talents are best matched. They can use registration personnel,
starters, scorers, marshals, safety personnel, spotters, etc.
This volunteer opportunity allows us to give back to the game we love and also serves
as an opportunity to showcase our Club. It was during this tournament several years ago we first met Mercedes Brown and her family.
This year, along with many others, 13 Desert Mashie Junior Golf members will
participate in the tournament. Volunteering will give you an opportunity to meet some of your programs stars and watch them work.
If you are interested in volunteering, please send me an email to [email protected]
or call me at 623-640-4046. Please identify the date(s) and time(s) you want to work and the position(s) would like to work. Please provide this information no later than
March 4.
Thank you in advance for your support.

People, places and things!
People - Have a story to tell about yourself, a friend, or loved one? Do
you have a birth announcement or want us to pray for an ailing family member
or friend? Got an anniversary or birthday coming up?
Places - Have you recently discovered a great new course that you
want to share with us? Discovered a good deal somewhere? Or maybe you’re
going on vacation and want to know if anyone knows of a great course to golf
at your destination.
Things - How about all that golf equipment you keep buying to
improve your game, but alas, you realize it’s really operator error so you now
want to unload it?
