Opening the House to Friends of Public Broadcasting
If you’re a WFIU-Radio listener. then you’re familiar with their annual listeners’ reception. This year, WTIU-TV will be joining the party and you’re invited to our Open House, taking place Friday, September 28, from 7 to 9pm in the main floor TV studios of the Radio-TV Services building, right next door to the IU Art Museum.
The studios will feature exhibits showcasing the best of WFIU’s and WTIU’s local and national programming. Plus, you’ll have the chance to take a tour of our broadcast facilities. Tours start on the half hour throughout the evening.
It’s a free event featuring the personalities you’ve come to know, and we’ll be offering light refreshments courtesy of Terry’s Banquets and Catering, Oliver Winery, and Bloomington Brewing Company.
If you value WTIU, then we’d like to take this chance to say thanks for your support and invite you to take in a public broadcasting experience unlike any you’ve had. On September 28, please build the Open House into your Friday evening plans.

The San Francisco Opera Saturday, September 8, 1 pm
The San Francisco Opera presents the world premiere of Heart of a Soldier—the heartbreaking, inspirational story of a real-life hero.
Rick Rescorla was a decorated soldier who, as director of security of Morgan Stanley at Two World Trade Center, warned of the terrorist attacks years before they happened.
Jazz Crossroads of America
WFIU presents a new series that shows the role that the Hoosier heartland played in the rise of a great American art form: jazz.
Jazz Crossroads of America draws on interviews with jazz historians, musicians, and jazz educators, exploring such topics as the history of Indiana’s ragtime movement, early songwriting stars, the legacy of Indianapolis’ “black boulevard of jazz,” and the rise of jazz education.
On September 11th, he helped evacuate 2,700 workers, and then made the ultimate sacrifice by going back into the building to search for any who might have been left behind. Rick Rescorla is played by renowned American baritone Thomas Hampson. The opera was composed by Christopher Theofanidis and the libretto is by Donna Di Novelli.
You can hear Jazz Crossroads of America on Night Lights beginning Friday, September 7 at 10 pm The programs will also air on Just You and Me for four Thursdays in a row, beginning at 3:30 pm on Thursday, September 13. The series is produced by WFIU Jazz Director David Brent Johnson with support from the National Endowment for the Arts.
