Even before the arrival of Christianity,
Germans decorated evergreen trees to
brighten the dark, gloomy days of the
winter solstice. The first "Christmas
trees" appeared in Strasbourg in the
17th century and spread to
Pennsylvania in the 1820s with the
arrival of German immigrants. When
Queen Victoria married Germany's
Prince Albert in 1840, he brought the
tradition to England. Eight years later,
the first American newspaper ran a
picture of the royal Christmas tree, and
Americans outside Pennsylvania quickly
followed suit.
USE THE HOLIDAY TIME WISELY As well as celebrating, invest some time over the Christmas vacation working on
your resume, and updating your Facebook and LinkedIn profiles, so that when the
new year begins and companies reopen, you are ready to go. And don’t forget to
send your Regency consultant a copy of the new resume too.
The new year is the time to get moving and take your career to the next
level. Here are some simple steps to move forward ..
- Begin with the end in mind. Write down your career aspirations as if you
have already achieved them.
- Set manageable, short-term targets along the way. Break down the
large career goal into smaller ‘chunks’ that you can measure and evaluate
on a daily basis.
- Just Do It! Get up, get out and do it. Nothing is going to happen if you
stay at home on Facebook. You have to walk the talk and meet the people.
- Appreciate that done is better than perfect. Celebrate the small wins,
like getting an interview or making a new connection.
Remember, the most important step is the next one !

KEEP CALM AND COPE WITH CHRISTMAS
The Christmas holidays bring time spent with
family from near and far, preparing
and making elaborate meals and
attending parties, buying gifts to
show loved ones how much we care
and decorating our homes in holiday regalia.
We may even find ourselves up late into the
night preparing pastelles and treats for our
children’s teachers, our neigbours or co-workers.
But there’s no denying that, despite the holidays being a special time to
reconnect with family and friends, heightened expectations can lead to anxiety,
irritability, sleeplessness and exhaustion. And asking for help, even outside of the
holiday season, is difficult for many of us to do. Read how to cope with the demands
of the Season at http://psychcentral.com/blog/archives/2015/11/09/how-to-
keep-calm-and-carry-on-during-the-holidays/
