Tim Ploch — Trailblazers August 2014 Caller Tim Ploch has periodically called for the Trailblazers since August 2008.
Tim learned to square dance while he was a student at Rice
University. He graduated from his square dance class in December 1973
and by the summer of 1975 was dancing at the highest levels. Although he
began calling informally before that time, by 1975 he was calling
advanced and challenge, also graduated from callers school that same
year and has been calling continuously since that time. He called full time
until he graduated, in 1981, from University of Houston Law Center with a
Doctor of Jurisprudence (J.D.) degree. His first job as an attorney began in
the summer of 1982 and in 1986 he established his own law firm in
Houston, Texas.
Tim taught his then future wife, Donna Law, to square dance. She is the rock-solid center of his
world.
Tim is an original and current permanent staff member of the Texas Premier Advanced and
Challenge Convention or TEXPACC (formerly the Texas Advanced and Challenge Convention
begun in 1981 in Dallas, Texas). TEXPACC is held during October at the Red River Valley Fair
Grounds in Paris, Texas. Until its closing, Tim was also an original permanent staff member of
the American Advanced and Challenge Convention. He has called many conventions, festivals
and weekends, and calls all levels from Mainstream through C3B.
In his home town (Houston) and in his spare time, Tim calls a monthly DBD Plus dance as well
as periodic and annual Advanced and Challenge weekends through C3A.
A partial listing of Tim’s recordings includes: Any Old Time, Bed of Roses, Does Fort Worth
Ever Cross Your Mind, Hubba Hubba, I Am the Dreamer, I Hear the South Calling Me, I Love You
Better Than I Did Then, I’ll Do It All Over Again, Jingle Bell Rock, King of Western Swing, Old Black
Magic, Ribbon of Darkness, Some Love
Songs Never Die, Square Dance
Honeymoon, The Gambler, Walk Right
Back and Your Memory.
For our avid Trailblazers bridge
players, here is your opportunity to
attempt to finesse the square-dance-
caller/attorney who always enjoys a
lively, immensely challenging and
enjoyable game.
A dancer once described Tim’s
calling as being like peppermint ice
cream – smooth with sweet little chunks.
Tim always tries to focus on the flow of
the material while keeping the dancers
entertained. Donna and Tim Ploch

Rich & Debbie Cornick. On May 3, received, from Rich & Debbie, an email greeting to their Trailblazers friends. Additionally, they expressed their thanks for the Trailblazers newsletters. Rich & Debbie: It always a pleasure hearing from former members who we do not often see. Thanks for your birthday and anniversary information. Stay well and stop by to see us soon.
Since 1988 Trailblazers has had the most unique opportunity and privilege to use the Community
Center at Paramount Park for our Saturday Square Dances. For understandably fiscal constraints
Trailblazers will no longer be able to continue to use the Paramount Community Center.
In a letter addressed to John Marshall, the City Manager, of The City of Paramount, states:
“You {the Trailblazers} have indeed provided a great service to many individuals in this
area and beyond for many years. The City of Paramount has been happy to play a part in that
service by providing our facility at an extremely low cost to your group over this time.”
In their recent budget reviews The City of Paramount City Council found it necessary to
substantially increase the fees charged for the City’s facilities.
The City Manager further adds: “We know, of course, that these fees are much higher than
the deeply discounted rate you have been paying for quite some time. Unfortunately, the City
simply cannot afford to offer those subsidized rates any longer.”
“Mr. Marshall, you obviously have a deep
passion for the Trailblazers Club, and we thank
you for sharing that with us. We hope that you
can understand our circumstances and the
reasons for the changes we have made, and we
hope you find a place to keep on dancing.”
Our sincere appreciation and thanks to John Marshall for his tireless efforts, talents and negotiating skills in working through our dance hall location change, as well as the input provided to The City of Paramount City Council by John Melstrom.

At the close of each of our last June 2014 Trailblazers dances in the Community Center of Paramount Park, we stopped to reflect upon the many wonderful Squares Dances and memories that we will be leaving behind. Our happy smiles show how much we have enjoyed this outstanding dance hall.
THANKS AGAIN to The City of Paramount.
