On-goingeconomicgrowthin2018ledtoanincreaseinjobopeningswithinfinance.However,hiringmanagerswerehavingtocontendwithacandidateshortage,particularlyatthejuniorlevel.Thefirstsignsofanoverheatedmarketin2018werepresentinsalariesatthejuniortomid-careerlevel.Counter-offerswereprevalentandcandidateswereabletoattaindoubledigitsalaryincreaseswhentransferringtoanewrole.

In2019thenumberofvacancieswillcontinuetogrow,withgraduateandmid-careerlevelcandidatesbeingmostscarce.Flexibilityiskeyinafastgrowingeconomyandquicklyevolvingfield.Asaresult,thedemandfortemporarystaffwillshowsteepgrowth.

Companieswillventurefurtherintomakingautomationandbigdataapartoftheirbusiness,leadingtoanincreaseddemandforfinanceprofessionalswithknowledgeinthesefields.Manyorganisationsareinnovatingtheirwayofworking.Theyaretransformingintoagileorganisationsorimplementingautomationandbusinessintelligenceintotheirday-to-daybusiness.

Theywillbelookingfortalentedgraduatesthatbringinnovationandnewinsightswithregardstoprocessoptimisation.

Asbanksandfinancialservicescompaniesareinatransitionofautomatingprocesses,thereisashiftfromhiringforoperationalrolestoITorientedandstrategicroles.BachelorandMastergraduatesarehighlysoughtaftertofillthesepositions,manyofthemreceivingjoboffersduringtheirlastyearinuniversity.

BaselIIIbroughtchangestothemethodologyregardingcapitalrequirements,resultinginahighercostofcapitalforfinancialinstitutions.Thisledtoastrongfocusoncuttingoperationalcosts,withsomesavingsbeingmadethroughjobcutsandhiringfreezesontheoperationallevel.

In2019wewillseefurtherautomationofprocesses,andalongwithitanincreasinglytightcandidatemarketatthejuniorlevel.Additionally,thedemandforprofessionalswithexperienceincompliance,riskandKYC(KnowYourCustomer)willriseduetonewregulationsfromAFMandDNB.Thereareplentyofjuniorprofessionalswhowanttoworkincompliance,butcandidatesthathaveexperiencewiththeaforementionedregulationsaredifficulttofind.

Theeconomicgrowthtranslatesintohighhiringvolumesintherealestatesector.Sectorspecific

experienceisamustformostoftheseroles.Bachelorgraduatesinrealestateoftenbegintheircareerinanadministrativerole,fromwheretheycangrowintotheroleofpropertyaccountant.

Salariesgrewby5-10%in2018andareexpectedtofurtherincreasein2019.WithBachelorlevelsalariesshowingstrongergrowth,thegapbetweenBachelorandMasterlevelsalariesisbecomingsmaller.Bachelorgraduatestendtostaywithanorganisationafteraninternship,whichformsanexcellentopportunityforhiringmanagerstoattractnewtalent.Mastergraduatescarefullycontemplatetheirfirstjob.ForMasterlevelrolesitisdifficulttoswitchtoadifferentfield,sothechoicefortheirfirstjoboftenhasahighimpactontherestoftheircareer.

Atoperationallevel,salarieswillshowlittlegrowthduetocostcuts.Wewillseeahighernumberofcandidatesbeingrecruitedfromabroad,withorganisationsofferingrelocationpackages.Thenumberofpassivejobseekerslookingfortheperfectfitwillincrease;anopportunityforcompaniesthatstandoutintheircandidatejourneyandemployerbranding.

WhileHumanResourceswaspreviouslyviewedasmeresupportdepartmentinmanyorganisations,thereisashifttowardscompaniesconsideringtheHRdepartmentasatruebusinesspartner.Assuch,moreresourceswereallocatedtoHRresultingintheexpansionofHRdepartments.ThisincreasedthedemandforHRprofessionals,especiallyHRgeneralistsandHRadministrationcandidateswith1-2yearsofexperience.TheimportanceoftheHRdepartmentwithinorganisationswillonlygrow,asattractingandretainingemployeesishighontheagendaofmostorganisations.Employerswillfocusonimprovingtheirrecruitmentprocess,aswellasofferingpersonalisedcompensationpackagesandrethinkingtheiremployerbrandinginordertoattracttalent.ThiswillcreateampleopportunitiesforHRprofessionalsspecialisedininternalrecruitmentandcompensationandbenefits.

Atrendwithinlargerorganisationsiscreatingateamofrecruitmentcoordinators,actingaslinkingpinbetweenHRandthebusiness.Theirmainfocusistoensureasmoothcandidateexperienceforapplicants.

CompaniesarechangingtheirbusinessmodelsrapidlybyimplementingITsolutionsinthenext5to10years.OrganisationsareinvestingheavilyinCloudsolutions,withsomeevenbecomingCloud-only.ThisisimpactingthedemandforITsupportstaffandexperiencewithCloudcomputingisbecomingamust.

ThenumberofcompaniesthataremigratingtheirITactivitiestoanexternalsupplierisstillgrowing.Nearshoring,wherebusinessactivitiesareoutsourcedtoorganisationsinnearbylowerwagecountries,isgrowinginpopularity.

Astheeconomyhasbeendoingwell,manyorganisationsareupscalingtheirteams,drivingdemandforsupportstaff.Sectorswithhighestlevelsofhiringactivityforsupportstaffareretail,IT,consultancy,FMCGandrealestate.

CandidateswithaBachelorsdegree,speakingasecondorthirdlanguageandwithexperienceininternationalorganisationswillbehighlysoughtafterin2019,tofillrolesinexecutiveandmanagementsupport.

Thecandidatemarketwillbetightandcandidateswillcontinuetohavemultiplejobapplicationprocessesatthesametime.Personaldevelopmentandagoodwork-lifebalancewithflexiblehours,remoteworkingandthepossibilitytoworkpart-time,willbeimportantfactorsinattractingnewemployees.

Salariesforsupportstaffareexpectedtorisewith3-5%in2019.Highperformingcandidateslookingtomoveroleswillbeinapositiontonegotiateforabiggerraise.

Demandforfinanceprofessionalsinthehealthcaresectorwasincrediblyhighin2018asaresultofchangingstrategiesinthefinancedepartments,aswellasdevelopmentsinITandautomationoffinancialprocesses.

Thenumberofrolesoncontractbasisincreasedstrongly,astheconstantchangesintheindustryrequiredaflexibleemployeepool.

Whereashiringmanagerspreviouslyplacedindustryexperienceatthetopoftheirwishlist,thesectorhasnowstartedtorecognizethevalueoffinanceprofessionalswithcross-industryexperience,atrendthatwillcontinue.

In2019,mosthiringwilltakeplaceatthemidcareerlevel,forrolessuchasfinancialcontrollerandbusinesscontroller.TheindustryneedsBachelorandMasterlevelcandidatestoimplementnewsystemsandimproveprocesses,toensurecompliancywiththecontinuouschangesinhealthcareregulation.TherewillalsobeampleopportunitiesforDBCadvisorsandexperiencedfinanceadministrators.

Salarieswithinhealthcarewillremainstableformostroles.However,contractsalariesfornewhealthcarespecificrolessuchasDBCadvisorwillshowstronggrowth,ascandidateswithexperienceintheserolesarescarce.

Hiringmanagersshouldemphasizethevalueofgainingexperienceinapublicsectororganisation,asectorknownforitsuniqueproductstructures,complexfinancialflowsandopportunitiestomakeanimpactthroughprocessinnovation.

Acontinuingtrendwithinthesupplychainfieldistheincreasingneedfortraceabilityofgoods,workingtowardsseamlesslogistics.Asmoredatabecomesavailable,furtherstepscanbetakentowardscostreduction,capacitycontrolandriskmanagement.Toattainacompetitiveadvantageinthisfield,companieswillsearchforhighlyeducatedprofessionalswithstrongoperationalandanalyticalskills.
