Thank you for your support. Father Mecca
Please remember St. Peter Parish when preparing
your will. A legacy to the church eases your tax bur-
den and helps continue the good works of our parish.
Last month, as you recall, we counted the
number of people attending each Mass as
part of a diocesan wide census. Each year for two week-
ends in October the parishes take a census and the figures
are sent into the Chancery. As always, I like to print the
results here in the bulletin for you to look at. I am placing
last year’s numbers along side of this year’s for compari-
son.

If we average the number of people attending Mass
according to language in 2019 we see that 882 celebrate
Mass in English, 687 in Portuguese, and 444 in Spanish.
The totals are slightly below last year’s, on the average 143
fewer people attended Mass. I do not find that number to
be very significant. Last year’s numbers were the highest
we had seen to date, and when I compare our figures this
year to those in 2017 and 2016 there is no significant varia-
tion. We are a stable parish. Thanks be to God.
Whether it evokes excitement or apprehensions,
Christmas is nearing. On Tuesday I watched the men from
Public Works remove the autumn corn stalks in the morning
and return in the afternoon with green roping and red bows.
Our school is selling wreaths and is taking orders as
of this weekend. The wreath sale, back in the day, was a
school fundraiser. When the Home-School Association
dropped it, our parish Youth Group picked it up. Returning
this year to Home-School, the sale has gone full circle.
Take a look at the school’s Wrap Shop. There’s a nice as-
sortment of fun and dressy paper and bags for Christmas.

the first Christmas gift they have ever received. As well,
students from the upper grades took the time to read to their
"buddies" in the younger grades. Pictures for both of these

Music Notes:
On Friday, December 6 (St. Nicholas Day)
at 7:30 pm, our parish choir will be singing
the Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols.
This wonderful Christmas tradition dates back over 100
years, and has been popularized by the choir of King’s Col-
lege, Cambridge. The lessons tell the story of the fall of
humanity, the promise of a Messiah, and the birth of Jesus.
Carols are interspersed between the lessons. Our parish
choir is preparing some beautiful music for this event, in-
cluding movements from Vivaldi’s ―Gloria.‖ There will
also be several traditional Carols to be sung by the congre-
gation. For more details, visit the ―events‖ section on our
website at www.stpeterdanb.org.
