St. Mary, Our Lady of Guadalupe and St. Mary, Mother of God
The Baptism of the Lord ~ January 10, 2021
Nicene Creed (Continued)
For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate, he suf-fered death and was buried, and rose again on the third day in accordance with the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is adored and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy, catholic and apostolic Church. I confess one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins and I look forward to the resurrection of the dead and the life of the world to come. Amen.
GLORY TO GOD Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace to people of good will. We praise you, we bless you, we adore you, we glorify you, we give you thanks for your great glory, Lord God, heavenly King, O God, almighty Father.
Lord Jesus Christ, Only Begotten Son, Lord God, Lamb of God, Son of the Father, you take away the sins of the world, have mercy on us; you take away the sins of the world, receive our prayer; you are seated at the right hand of the Father, have mercy on us.
For you alone are the Holy One, you alone are the Lord, you alone are the Most High, Jesus Christ, with the Holy Spirit, in the glory of God the Father. Amen
RESPONSORIAL PSALM
You will draw water joyfully from the springs of salvation

NICENE CREED
I believe in one God, the Father almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all things visible and Invisible.
I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the Only Begotten Son of God, born of the Father before all ages. God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, consubstantial with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation he came down from heav-en, and by the Holy Spirit was incarnate of the Virgin Mary, and became man.
PROCESSIONAL HYMN River of Glory
Refrain: River of glory, springs of our birth, flood of God’s riches poured on the earth. We are born from the darkness and clothed in the light! We are bathed in the glory of God!
1. Fountain of mercy, grace flowing free, streams of salvation, spilling with love from a tree!
4. Darkness is banished, night turned away. Christ is our sunlight, lifting and leading our way! Daniel L. Schutte © 1991, OCP. All rights reserved.
COMMUNION HYMN Spirit and Grace
Refrain: In the bread, blessed, broken and shared, Christ is our life, whose presence we bear. Come, O Spirit, make your grace re-vealed in this holy meal. © 2006, Ricky Manalo, CSP. Published by OCP. All rights reserved.
RECESSIONAL HYMN Joy to the World
1. Joy to the world! the Lord is come; Let earth receive her King; Let ev’ry heart prepare him room, And heav’n and nature sing, And heav’n and nature sing, And heav’n, and heav’n and nature sing. 3. He rules the world with truth and grace, And makes the nations prove The glories of his righteousness, And wonders of his love, And wonders of his love, And wonders, wonders of his love. Text: CM with repeats; based on Psalm 98:4–9; Isaac Watts, 1674–1748, alt. Music: T. Hawkes’ Collection of Tunes, 1833; George Frideric Handel, 1685–1759; adapt. by Lowell Mason, 1792–1872, alt.
St. Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle. Be
our defense against the wickedness and snares of the Devil. May God rebuke him, we humbly pray, and do thou, O Prince of the heavenly hosts, by the power of God, thrust into hell Satan, and all the evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls. Amen.

The Baptism of the Lord | January 10, 2021 | Page 6
Last Sunday we celebrated the Solemnity of the Epiphany of Our Lord, which is the manifestation of God in the person of Jesus Christ to the world. This Sunday, we celebrate the Feast of the Baptism of our Lord, which is considered as the “second manifestation” of our Lord Jesus Christ. How it so?
Well if the Solemnity of the Epiphany of Jesus Christ emphasizes the revelation of the light of salvation who is Jesus our Lord, this “second manifestation” of our Lord Jesus Christ marks the beginning of His public ministry.
Historically the Baptism of the Lord has been associated with the celebration of Epiphany. Even today, the feast of Theophany, celebrated on January 6 by the Greek Orthodox Church as a counterpart to the Roman Catholic Feast of the Epiphany, focuses primarily on the Baptism of the Lord as the revelation of God to man. Why do we remember the Baptism of Jesus? Because the Church wants to stress through this liturgical feast the importance and significance of baptism in our Christian lives.
Through baptism, we not only become members of the institutional Church, which makes baptism the Rite of Initiation but we are also given a mission to proclaim the Good News of Salvation to all. That is why many theologians today regard baptism as a sacrament of commissioning, that is, through this sacrament, we are being sent to the world to announce the goodness of the Lord. It is precisely because of this that Jesus willed that He be baptized by John the Baptist. He did not need cleansing. But He simply wanted us to realize that like Him, we, too, are called to evangelize. This is our baptismal calling.
As we celebrate the feast of the Lord’s Baptism, we call to mind our own baptism. We, too, have been called to proclaim the Good News of Salvation. May we all be faithful to that mission and show to the world that we are true followers of the Lord.
Father Ron

We carry a greater depth of self-confidence
and chance of succeeding when we have
affirmation, a sense of direction and clear
purpose in life. Each of these serve to provide
our lives with meaning, allowing us to clearly
establish priorities and goals. They also
are necessary for integrity, which is the
conviction and single mindedness that keeps
us grounded in the truth of who we are. “You
are my beloved Son; with you I am well
pleased.” Jesus’ baptism provides him with
exactly what he needs to get about the
business of his mission as the Son of God.
He is given what he needs to be successful in
fulfilling the purpose for which he was sent.
Our baptisms give us these same gifts. We
receive the affirmation we need from God,
knowing that we are one of his beloved
daughters and sons. We are gifted with the
direction and clear purpose we need in order
to be productive stewards and faithful
Christians. Are we ready and willing to answer
the call?
