HOMILY
PROFESSION OF FAITH — Nicene Creed
I believe in one God, the Father almighty,
maker of heaven and earth,
of all things visible and invisible.
I believe in one Lord Jesus Christ,
the Only Begotten Son of God,
born of the Father before all ages.
God from God, Light from Light,
true God from true God,
begotten, not made,
consubstantial with the Father;
through him all things were made.
For us men and for our salvation
he came down from heaven,
(all bow as able)
and by the Holy Spirit
was incarnate of the Virgin Mary,
and became man.
(all stand upright as able)
For our sake he was crucified
under Pontius Pilate,
he suffered death and was buried,
and rose again on the third day
in accordance with the Scriptures.
He ascended into heaven
and is seated at the right hand of the Father.
He will come again in glory
to judge the living and the dead
and his kingdom will have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit,
the Lord, the giver of life,
who proceeds from the Father and the Son,
who with the Father and the Son
is adored and glorified,
who has spoken through the prophets.
I believe in one, holy,
catholic and apostolic Church.
I confess one Baptism
for the forgiveness of sins
and I look forward to the resurrection of the
dead and the life of the world to come.
Amen

WORLD MISSION SUNDAY
Pope Francis invites us to celebrate World Mission Sunday with the entire Church on the weekend of
October 23/24. The theme of the weekend is “Witness of Life” as we recognize all those who “Cannot
but speak about what we have seen and heard (Acts 4:20)” and share their testimony of love and
compassion in their hearts, embracing “everyone, everywhere” (World Mission Message, Pope
Francis). This year, as an example of this theme, we highlight the passionate calling of Sister Rose
Hang Vu from our archdiocese and her ministries in South and North Vietnam. The WorldMission
Sunday collection Supports the many activities of the mission Church in over 1,100 struggling areas
throughout the world, including Vietnam. Please support this mission diocese, by offering prayers
and financial gifts during World Mission Sunday. You can contribute to this appeal at your parish, or

BULLETIN SUBMISSION DEADLINES

All requests are due by 12:00 pm (noon) to

parish office. Email is preferred.
Dear Sisters and Brothers in Christ,
In today’s Gospel, we hear the story of James and
John asking Jesus for a favor by asking Jesus to let
them seat one at His right and the other at His
left. However, Jesus makes it clear that He is not a
king who comes to us to pass out the riches to the
good people, to make the bad people perish, nor
to grant wishes to His disciples. Jesus reminds His disciples
that, “For the Son of Man did not come to be served but to
serve and to give his life as a ransom for many."
Therefore, through Baptism, we are called to do as Jesus did, to
be servants to others. We are called to be attentive to the needs
of others and help others meet their needs.
One of the needs that St. Alphonsus parish is focusing on is
how to create a youth and young adult ministry. Creating a
place for young people to come together to share their beliefs
with those around them. And, how to help young people use
their gifts and talents to serve the parish and the places where
they live.
This is a work that requires the cooperation of all of us from
home to church. Currently, we have many volunteers ready to
help with youth ministry. And good news, the youth group will
begin on Sunday, October 24th from 1:30pm to 3:00pm. We
sincerely ask parents to help by bringing your children to the
youth group on Sundays. We hope what we are doing will help
children in the future.

MASS INTENTIONS
Estamos llamados a
