Dear Friend of San Jacinto College,
I am excited about the San Jacinto College Foundation 2016 gala, “Sailing to Success,” embarking on
Friday, May 20, 2016, at Sylvan Beach Pavilion. The mission of San Jacinto College is to ensure student
success, create seamless transitions and enrich the quality of life in the communities we serve. Proceeds
from the Sailing to Success gala will provide much needed support for our students through scholarships
and program funding. Students in our programs are highly motivated and deeply dedicated to their
academics; however, many encounter financial barriers. Our most telling statistic is that over 77% of
San Jacinto College students are the first generation in their families to attend college. The majority of
these first-time college students come from low income families who struggle to find a way to pay for
college expenses. The San Jacinto College Foundation is here to help them beat the odds and achieve
their dream of a college education.
The San Jacinto College Foundation was established in 1996, and since opening our doors we have
helped thousands of students to succeed not only in academia, but in life. Our mission – to increase
resources and create friends and partnerships to support the success of our students – is our purpose in
which we are committed to fulfilling. Through your involvement we can continue to help students
achieve the dream of a college education by easing financial stress, and providing hope and
encouragement to those students who need it most. Together we can make a difference!
Judith Gonzales, scholarship recipient, had this to say, “I am sincerely honored to have been selected as
a scholarship recipient. I am a single mother working full-time and attending college has been a
financial challenge. This scholarship will help me focus more on my education by alleviating some of
the financial burdens I encounter.”
San Jacinto College serves approximately 30,000 credit students on four campuses and eight extension
centers. The College provides a personal educational experience leading to a four-year university or the
working world. On behalf of the San Jacinto College Foundation Board, I invite you to join us as a
sponsor of the 2016 Sailing to Success gala, or make a tax deductible scholarship donation today. Your
participation changes the lives of countless students who express their gratitude on a regular basis. Please
participate to help students like Judith succeed, not only for herself, but for her children as well. Your
support leads our students and graduates to become great leaders, part of a talented workforce, and loyal
community members.
Kind regards,
Ruth Keenan, Executive Director Tom Watson, Board Chair
