As we dive into the festive and holiday season it is important to remind ourselves of our true priorities. Are we focusing on the needs of ourselves and others? Or are we placing too much emphasis on desires?
It is a fast paced time of year where everyone seems to be racing around shopping, celebrating, planning or tying up loose ends at work. It is now, more than ever that we have to practice consideration.
This consideration can come in many forms, but ultimately it can be broken into four areas; Time, Money, Food and Energy.
Are we spending our time on the things that truly matter?
Is our money going towards our own and others’ needs or is it spent on desires?
Are we only eating and using the food that we require or are we wasting food?
Are we putting our energy towards good words, deeds and actions or is it being taken up by falsities or misled priorities?
In becoming considerate of these four areas, we become truly considerate of ourselves and others.
Thank you to each and every student for the incredible term and congratulations on completing another year of schooling. We have three more days of ‘business’ before a well-deserved holiday break.
Please take your diamonds and let them shine for the rest of the world to see. Spread your love and kindness, be safe and live the values in every word, deed and action.

TERM 4 WEEK 8 2020
SWIMMING CARNIVALOur annual Swimming Carnival was held on Friday the 27th November, and it was a perfect day for swimming.
The 8–13 year old students began the day with the 50m freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke and butterfly events. The competition was fierce, with participation very high from all of the students present. The final race of the day was the much anticipated House Relay, with Peace taking home the win in a very competitive race.
The 5–7 year old students began their novelty events at 11:30am with a 25m kick-board race. They then played water games including a toy dive and motorcycle race.
Like many of our competitive events, it is so nice to see the students encouraging each other, cheering each other on, and congratulating each other after each race—even their opposition house competitors. It really was heart-warming to see such wonderful character traits shining through all day.
The overall champion house was Truth with 1091 points, followed by Peace with 980 and Love with 521 points.
The 2020 Swimming Age Champions are:
Age Boy Girl
8 Harry Matisons Shimmer Cranney
9 Dustin Townsend Fianaid Ives
10 Jesse Mitchell Madeleine Scanlon
11 Tommy Spedding Inge-Marie Kolominskas
12–13 Odhran Ives Echo Cranney
TERM 4 WEEK 8 2020
DANCE PERFORMANCES Students in grades 4–6 have been working hard over the course of the term to choreograph a dance in groups. Each group chose a different piece of music and their dances reflected their unique styles and personalities.
Along the way students learnt many skills related to dance, including creativity, formations, tempo and levels. Additionally, students learnt many values associated with performing in a group including courage, determination, perseverance, cooperation and organisation.
Although some groups were nervous, each group should be very proud of their efforts and the dances they created.

FOOD SMART HOLIDAYS 3 Freezer Hacks for the Holiday Season
Sign up to the FREE Food Smart program and win!
Did you know that about $10 billion worth of good food is thrown away every year by NSW households? That’s an average of $3,800 a year per household! With the festive season fast approaching, it’s a good time to think about how to store your food right to avoid wasting food.
Here are 3 freezer hacks to help your food last longer this summer:• If you have leftover BBQ’s or roasts, freeze them to use for a meal another
time. Just defrost in the fridge for 1-2 days before you want to use it. • Chop up leftover herbs and put them in ice cube trays topped up with water.
You can add herb ice cubes to meals while cooking for a hit of flavour, or pop them in a refreshing summer drink!
• Store bread in the freezer. Sure, we all know this one, but remembering to do it is another thing! In this hot and humid weather, bread doesn’t last long, so get it in the freezer before you forget.
And if you do have any food waste or scraps that can’t be eaten, remember to put it in the food and organics bin (that’s the one with the green lid). It will be turned into compost to help our local farmers supply food for our region.
For more ideas on how to save money and avoid food waste, sign up to the FREE Food Smart program. For 2 weeks, you’ll get handy emails with food storage tips, recipes, hints, meal plan ideas and smart shopping solutions. If you sign up and finish the program by 31 January, you’ll also go in the draw to win a freezer worth around $750!
Sign up online to the FREE Food Smart Program at http://www.newaste.org.au/foodsmart/.
The FREE Food Smart Program is open to households in the Ballina, Byron, Clarence Valley, Kyogle, Lismore, Richmond Valley and Tweed local government areas. Food Smart is a Love Food Hate Waste Program coordinated by North East Waste on behalf of its member North Coast Councils and the NSW Waste Less Recycle More initiative funded by the waste levy.
