Mission Statement Through our gifts of time, talents, and treasures, we serve our parish as we journey together to the Kingdom of God.
Feast of the Baptism of Christ - Today we celebrate the baptism of Christ in the Jordan. This is the second epiphany, or manifestation, of the Lord. The past, the present, and the future are made manifest in this epiphany. The most holy one placed Himself among us, the unclean and sinners. The Son of God freely humbled Himself at the hand of the Baptist. By His baptism in the Jordan, Christ manifests His humility and dedicates Himself to the redemption of man. He takes upon Himself the sins of the whole world and buries them in the waters of the Jordan. — From~ The Light of the World by Benedict Baur, O.S.B.

~ May 17, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. Q/W
Throughout the history of warfare, great generals have used two different styles of leading their troops.
Napoleon exemplified the first style. He would set up his headquarters on a high point, like a hilltop or nearby cliff, overlooking the battlefield. He would be surrounded by a dozen or so messengers. And when the battle started, his role was to issue orders by sending the messengers to the captains of the different battalions.
His genius was in identifying exactly the right time to execute each step of his battle plan. He inspired awe and respect in his troops because he led them well, but from a distance, above the sweat and bullets of the battle.
Alexander the Great typifies the second style. He would set up his headquarters right in the middle of the camp. The night before a battle he would gather his officers in his tent, and together they would make their battle plan - paying special attention to timing and placement of the cavalry charge.
Then when the time came to fight, Alexander would mount his horse and actually lead the charge - right in the forefront of his troops, risking his own life along with his soldiers'. Alexander inspired not only awe and respect among his followers, but also love. His troops knew he was their leader, but they felt that he was their brother.
That's what Christ wants to inspire in our hearts - love.
That's why he became man, pitching his tent among us, taking his place with sinners by his baptism. He wants to fight right beside us, every step of the way.
He leads from his throne in heaven above, inspiring awe and respect.
But he also leads from beside us, through His Church, through His Eucharist, as our Brother, inspiring love.
THANK YOU Another Christmas season has come to an end. This year I have received more compliments than usual on the beauty of our Church and on the liturgies. I would like to thank all the Sacred Heart parishioners and volunteers who worked so hard to accomplish everything. The music was beautiful, the manager was beautiful, the flowers were beautiful, just everything together was beautiful. Last year the Social Committee reported that the 2018 Bah Humbug was the most successful to date. This year they exceeded what they accomplished last year. Because of their hard work & dedication the committee was able to make a donation of $50,000.Thanks to all for making this a wonderful Christmas. Father Michael
