    ARTICLE 1 INTRODUCTION

As an athlete affiliated to the IFBB within his/her Province, it is required that each athlete takes thetime to read up on the AMATEUR RULES of the IFBB SA as well as the IFBB SACONSTITUTION both of which are on the IFBB SA web site : www.ifbbsa.com

All that he/she needs to know to be a member of the IFBB will be within the covers of the IFBB SACONSTITUTION and the IFBB SA AMATEUR RULES, and therefore the contents of both need tobe taken into consideration.

    ARTICLE 2 IFBB SOUTH AFRICA

IFBB SOUTH AFRICA is an established bodybuilding federation with structured ProvincialCommittees. There is no doubt that the IFBB is a great federation. However, people generallylook at the federation without actually noticing the countless individuals whose dedication andcommitment allow the word great to be synonymous with the IFBB. Officials from each Province

contribute their time, energy, finances, resources and professionalism to make our sport thepopular lifestyle that it is. Without these dedicated officials there would not be a structure in theProvince, there would be no IFBB, and there would certainly be no shows.

IFBBSA is a nonprofit organization, and no official is paid a salary for their services to the IFBB SA.

Kindly note that this show is a selection show to select a TEAM of Athletes torepresent the Province at the IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS.

Due to the wide range of divisions offered by the IFBB, the Provincial Structure has the right to usetheir own discretion with regards to what categories and divisions they will have when they areplanning their shows. The categories and/or division can vary depending on the level ofcompetition and the market at that particular show. The Provincial Committee generally knows

what their market is, and will cater accordingly.

It is common for a Province to group divisions per category together :(EG. Have one line up for body fitness instead of the four different height divisions, or have onemasters line up instead of the various available, or have one Juniors instead of the two availableetc).

General Condition that will apply and be adopted by all Provincial StructuresIf there are less than three competitors on the morning of registration in a division that has beenadvertised, it will be at the discretion of the officials to then either still run the division on its own or combine with another.

    3/62

THE JUNIORS AND MASTERS WORLD CHAMPS

    THE CLASSIC BODYBUILDING WORLD CHAMPS

    THE SENIOR MENS WORLD CHAMPS

    THE ARNOLD CLASSIC AMATEUR DIVISIONS

    THE OLYMPIA AMATEUR DIVISIONS

A note to all athletes :IFBB SA needs to select the best possible athletes to compete at any of the WorldChampionships the standard is extremely high, and therefore it truly is an honor for anathlete to be selected. An Athlete should not assume because he/she has placed first orsecond in their division at the IFBB SA CHAMPS, that he/she will automatically be selectedto represent IFBB SA at the various World Championships. The athlete must be of Worldclass standard.

There is also a maximum quota of athletes that can participate at each of the worldchampionships. And we need to stay within this quota.

    ARTICLE 4 - DEFINITIONS OF A COMPETITOR

Though athletes are not necessarily put into or even referred to in a specific category by theirProvincial structure - these terms are merely for your interest to see the progression of an athleteas he/she gains experience and confidence and achievements within the sport ..

    A. A JUNIOR ATHLETEA Junior is an athlete male or female up to age 18 or 21 he/she may compete as a JUNIORCOMPETITOR up to and including December 31st of the same year in which the athlete reacheshis or her 18th or 21st Birthday. Provinces may host both sets of divisions at a show.

    B. MASTERS MALE ATHLETEThere are various Masters (male) divisions, and a master athlete will be in the age range of 40-49,50-59 or 60 plus. If a male athlete chooses to compete as a MASTER COMPETITOR he shall fallinto the category appropriate to his age on the day of the competition. This does not meanhowever, that once an athlete is 40 and over that he is restricted to only enter the masterscategories he may still remain a competitor in the open senior categories if he so chooses. (Butnot in both divisions at one show).

    C. MASTERS FEMALE ATHLETEA master female athlete is 35 years of age or older. (A female athlete may compete as a MASTER

COMPETITOR from January 1st of the year in which the athlete reaches her 35 th Birthday). Thisdoes not mean however, that this athlete is restricted to this age group she may still compete inthe open senior female categories if she so chooses. (But not in both divisions at one show).

    D. A NOVICE ATHLETEWHO IS A NOVICE : A novice competitor is an athlete who has nevercompeted in an IFBB showbefore.

  • 8/7/2019 RULES, REGULATIONS AND REQ - FOR THE IFBB SA ATHLETE 2010

    4/62

HOW LONG DOES A NOVICE ATHLETE REMAIN A NOVICE AFTER THEIR FIRST YEAR :The novice athlete who has placed 4 th , 5th,6th (or lower in a longer line up) in any novice division atany show, and was not selected to participate in the IFBB SA NOVICE CHAMPS or IFBB SANATIONAL CHAMPS of the same year. He/she may remain a novice FOR ONE MORE YEAR.He/she may then re-enter as a novice for one more year WHICH HAS TO BE IN THE YEAR

DIRECTLY AFTER. If this athlete takes a break during the year directly after, he/she will forfeittheir novice status, and will have to move on to the open divisions in the year that they return.AND WHEN THE ATHLETE DOES COMPETE AGAIN AS A NOVICE IN THE YEAR DIRECTLYAFTER - regardless of his/her placing during this year, he/she will have to move on to the opendivisions in the following year.

A NOVICE ATHLETE AUTOMATICALLY NO LONGER QUALIFIES AS A NOVICE AFTERTHEIR FIRST YEAR WHEN : A novice competitor has placed 1st,2nd,3rd in any novice division atany show and/or the novice athlete was selected to represent his/her Province at the IFBB SANATIONAL NOVICE CHAMPS or IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPS in the same year then he/shemay only re enter as a Novice in their Province for the remainder of that same year. utomatically,

he/she will then move on to the open divisions in the following year. Also if an athlete chooses to by pass the novice progression and goes straight from neverentering an IFBB show before directly to the open divisions he/she too is no longer a novice. An athlete also does not revert back to being a novice again if he/she moves from one categoryinto another. IE from Junior to Senior / or from Senior to Masters etc.

    E. A DEVELOPMENT ATHLETEThis is an athlete that has just passed the Novice stage and is still in a learning phase. Thiswould still be a fairly new athlete to the sport only in his/her second (and sometimes even third)year of participation. He/she will then naturally transition into the intermediate category. Adevelopment athlete may NOT enter into a Novice line up.

    F. AN INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED ATHLETEAn intermediate athlete is someone that has passed the Novice and Development stages, and hassufficient confidence and experience in the sport he/she will automatically and easily transitioninto the advanced category.

ARTICLE 5 - AN ATHLETE ENTERING MORE THAN ONE DIVISION AT A SHOWThe only time that an athlete may enter more than one division at a show is :

IFhe/she is competing as a novice in their novice year/stage - then he/she must enter thenovice line up at a show and will have the option to enter the applicable open division line up for

their age & weight at the same show. We allow for this flexibility for the main purpose of stageexperience, confidence building and a learning experience for the NOVICE athlete. The NOVICEathlete should stand in a line up against all other novices but he/she will also be granted theopportunity to stand in a line up against the open category athletes within his/her age, weight anddivision in the same show. This NOVICE athlete will then simply have to complete two separateentry forms and pay two sets of entry fees.

  • 8/7/2019 RULES, REGULATIONS AND REQ - FOR THE IFBB SA ATHLETE 2010

    5/62

ORan open division athlete (ie an athlete no longer a novice) whomay only enterONEopen division applicable to his/her age and weight - may take note that, the only other opendivision that he/she may enter in at the same show is the ONE LINE UP ROUTINE WITH PROPcategory. This athlete will then simply have to complete two separate entry forms and pay twosets of entry fees.

Apart from the above no other double entries will be accepted at any show.

    ARTICLE 6 ID CHECK

All junior and master division athletes will show their ID document to the Provincial Chief Judge orweigh in official at the weigh in procedure.

ARTICLE 7 - AFFILIATION TO IFBB SA

The IFBB rules and regulations prevent us from accepting any athlete or individual unless they are

members of the recognized Provincial Structure and thus the National Federation. Therefore, individuals or athletes who wish to become members of IFBB within their Province, will do so bypaying a set standard annual affiliation fee directly to the Province. This fee is decided on by allProvinces at the National Congress. This fee is the same in all Provinces and will be revised fromtime to time at the IFBB SA Annual Congress. All athletes need to affiliate to the IFBB before theycan enter a competition. This fee will be paid once each year.

Each athlete or individual that affiliates to the IFBB SA, will receive an IFBB AFFILIATION CARDfrom their Provincial Structure. This card must then be produced at any competition that theathlete competes in thereafter. If the card is lost or destroyed before it needs to be replaced (dueto being full), the Provincial structure has the right to charge the athlete R15.00 for a new card, plus

    a new affiliation fee.

ARTICLE 8 THE ENTRY FEE AT A SHOW

The Entry fee at a show is totally separate to that of the annual affiliation fee as per above. An athlete will pay a set standard entry fee directly to the Province for the division that he/shewishes to enter in at a competition. A Novice athlete that enters two divisions (ie their novice lineup as well as their open category line up) will pay two sets of entry fees. This fee is decided on by all Provinces at the National Congress, and the entry fee charged wouldbe the same in all Provinces for the Nov / Dev show for the Mid Year show and for the Provincials.

ARTICLE 9 TO QUALIFY WITHIN A PROVINCE TO PARTICIPATEIN THE IFBB SA NOVICE CHAMPIONSHIPS AND THE IFBB SA NATIONALCHAMPIONSHIPS

An athlete will only be accepted to enter a selection show in the Province in whichhe/she resides (and utility bills are sent to).

  • 8/7/2019 RULES, REGULATIONS AND REQ - FOR THE IFBB SA ATHLETE 2010

    6/62

This would be applicable for the PROVINCIAL TEAM selection show (ie Nov/ Dev show) for theIFBB SA NOVICE NATIONAL CHAMPS and for the PROVINCIAL TEAM selection show (ieProvincials) for the IFBB SA NATIONAL CHAMPS. Therefore, it is not ethical to enter into anyother Provinces selection show if the athlete does not reside in that Province. Chairman of aProvince will keep a strict check on this. The committee structure has the right to call for a copy of

a utility bill from the athlete if they suspect that the athlete is not from their Province. Only athletesin Provinces with no IFBB COMMITTEE STRUCTURE may enter at a Province closest to them.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR BODY FITNESS ATHLETES :-

BODY FITNESS ATTIRE, girls will be asked to show their shoes and /or costumes at theregistration/weigh in table.

FOR THE PREJUDING EVENT OF THE COMPETITION, the girls participating will perform bothrounds (1 & 2) abiding by the rules and regulations as well as being aware of all requirements.

FOR THE FINAL MAIN EVENING SHOW, the girls will only perform one round which will beROUND TWO BIKINI OF OWN CHOICE- For the following reasons :-

Due to the fact that the evening show is really entertainment for the audience, and it is verydifficult to keep their attention when many dont really understand the purpose of all thecostume changes.

At the evening show we need to accommodate all final participants performing theirindividual posing routines for all other divisions (men and women), and therefore find it

increasingly difficult, to slot all three rounds of the body fitness in between. Theregenerally is a time constraint at the evening show.

    There is no live judging.

The hosts of the competition aim for the evening show to run smoothly and in sequence.

Therefore by taking all of this into consideration, it has been decided that BODY FITNESSparticipants will only perform one round in the evening straight after which, the placing will beannounced and presentations done.
