emphatically and unequivocally, Rotary is
the single most effective organization to
engage in international and community
service, professional networking, and so-
cial fellowship.
Expand your horizons, meet interesting
people who stand for business and profes-
sional ethics, make friends, get business
contacts, do acts of kindness Wand con-
tribute to something larger than yourself.
Be part of an organization where your pro-
fessional expertise, your moral character,
your energy and your financial contribu-
tions can make a difference both in our
community and in the world.

District Governor
Rotary International District 3410
Message FromDistrict Governor
Fellow Rotarians of RC-Jakarta Gambir,
It is truly and sincerely an honor, privilege
and joy to be as your District Governor of
our beloved District 3410, for this Rotary
Year 2012-13.
You have so many talented and dedicated
people in your club. Here is a place where
you can go each week and meet with any
Rotarian friends, exchange ideas, socialize,
hear interesting speakers and participate
in worthwhile projects for our community
and contribute to Rotary International
Projects which promote better education,
health, peace and understanding through-
out the world.
I also believe you can double the size of
your club members this year. And con-
tinue to fund worthy community projects
and to support Rotary International in
their projects to better mankind.
A poet named Pablo Neruda wrote: “To
feel the love of people whom we love is a
fire that feeds our life. But to feel the af-
fection that comes from those whom we
do not know… is something still greater
and more beautiful because it widens out
the boundaries of our being and unites all
living things.”
And so my fellow Rotarians, ask not what
your Rotary club can do for you, ask what
you can do for your Rotary club. Think
about what you can do to serve humanity
through Rotary. Think about how you can
not only serve your club, but your profes-
sion or occupation, your community, our
nation, the international community, and
to the young people who need your exam-
ple, your encouragement, and your lead-
ership.
As a famous Anthropologist, Margaret
Mead stated: “Never doubt that a small
group of thoughtful, committed citizens
can change the world, indeed, it is the
only thing that ever has.”
Every person in here, and this Rotary
club, can achieve any goal that we set for
ourselves, and can become anything we
want to become. Act boldly for Rotary. All
of us in this room only have so much life
left on this earth. There are so many op-
portunities for us to serve, and let me say

Message Fromthe PresidentRotary Club of Jakarta Gambir
Dear Fellow Rotarians,
I am indeed very pleased that our re-
lationship with sister clubs is further
strengthened with the presence in our in-
duction of RC Makati South of Philippines,
RC Gombak of Malaysia, the expression
of interest from Japan & Taiwan. We also
deeply honored with the strong delega-
tions from RC Satin of Hongkong.
We are also formalizing our sister club ar-
rangement with RC Jakarta Sunter & RC
Bali kuta.
This sister club relationship will foster
more the essence of Rotary core values of
fellowship.
And this year’s theme of “Peace Through
Service” is meaningful & relevant to what
Rotarians are doing in improving the con-
ditions of the less fortunate people in our
community.
By giving education to street children,
healthcare to poor mother & livelihood
program for jobless & marginalized peo-
ple promote peace & harmony in the com-
munity.
Helping the poor is a God-given gift to all
professional service volunteers like what
Rotarians are doing to their respective
community. And this noble effort of doing
service to less fortunate promotes PEACE
in our community.
With this induction of new set of club of-
ficers may reinvigorate & reenergize this
wonderful gift of doing good in the com-
munity.
Yours in Rotary

Why Am I A Rotarian, by PDG Natalia SoebagjoWhy am I Rotar-
ian, you may won-
der? Sometimes
I ask myself that
exact same ques-
tion.
When weekly meetings are dull, when
the people I meet are unpleasant, when
my involvement in the organization is not
meaningful, or when my club does not
do anything relevant for the community,
these are the moments when I too won-
der why I am a Rotarian. Fortunately, such
moments do not arise too frequently.
Most of the time, I am quite happy being
a Rotarian.
Admittedly, when I first joined Rotary, I
didn’t know anything at all about it. A new
club, RC Jakarta Gambir, was being formed
and its Charter President was building up
its membership base. Women were, for
the first time, allowed to become Rotar-
ians and so I was asked whether I would
be interested. Always curious, I attended
a few meetings and read the material that
was given about Rotary International and
Rotary in Indonesia. The ideals of Rotary
were indeed exemplary. The global reach
of the organization too was impressive.
And I was inducted as a member of RC Ja-
karta Gambir in 1989. What won me over,
however, were not just the noble objec-
tives of Rotary, the way the organization
was structured and managed, but rather
the conviction my sponsor had in the mer-
its of being involved in Rotary and in his
enthusiasm in sharing them with others.
Over the years, as I began to get more
and more involved and began to better
understand and appreciate the workings
of Rotary, the same conviction was slowly
nurtured within me. I realized that Rotary
can provide the unique opportunity for an
individual to “grow” as a human being,
to express empathy towards one’s fellow
man in concrete action, and to make a dif-
ference to one’s community.
No other organization in the world is quite
like Rotary. Rotarians are individuals who
have achieved some measure of success
in their lives and want to give back to so-
ciety by volunteering their time, skills and
money for the betterment of others. Ro-
tary International and its Foundation, pro-
vide the vehicle and the resources – funds
and a global network of like-minded vol-
unteers – which enable you, the Rotarian,
to channel your contributions effectively
and realize your dreams and plans. And
as you turn your ideas into reality, along
the way you are also able to make new
friends and acquaintances from diverse
backgrounds. This is what makes me and
keeps me a Rotarian.
When you talk to Rotarians you will find
that Rotary means different things to dif-
ferent people. You will also find that they
become Rotarians for different reasons
but what is certain is that what one gets
out of being a Rotarian – the sense of ful-
fillment, the satisfaction of having made a
difference – is commensurate with what
you put in. The more passive a Rotarian
you are, the least satisfaction you get.
Hence if sometimes people in the organi-
zation disappoint, or if you have doubts
about your continued involvement, stay
focused on what you want to achieve.
No matter how difficult it may it seem at
times, stay involved and concentrate on
the positive and the possibilities that Ro-
tary has to offer in making your life richer.
An English philosopher, A.C. Grayling
noted that :
“People who live in relatively peaceful
and stable parts of the world, who eat
regularly and keep warm in winter, and
who have many opportunities to exercise
their human needs for creativity, enjoy-
ment, friendship and the acquisition of
knowledge, are very privileged historically
speaking. It means that they have the
chance, if only they will take it, to be gen-
uinely happy – providing they also work
to try to make happier those who are less
fortunate than themselves: for happiness
cannot be complete if it co-exists with in-
difference to those who do not share it.”
Being a Rotarian, within a network of
kindred spirits spread around the world,
gives you the chance to be genuinely hap-
py. To be a Rotarian should be considered
a privilege but what matters most is how
you use this privilege for the betterment
of others, whoever they may be or wher-
ever they may be. Only then can you truly
call yourself a Rotarian.

Greetings fellow Rotaractors and
Rotarians,
It is an honour for me to be able
to contribute in Rotaract Club of
Jakarta Gambir (RAC Gambir) as the
Club Presindent for Board 2012-
Mewakili District 3410 Indonesia, Saya sampaikan ucapan
“Selamat Mengabdi” kepada seluruh sahabat di Rotaract Club
of Jakarta Gambir ditahun 2012-2013 dibawah kepemimpinan
President Anjar Titisari. Semoga club ini dapat mengaktu-
alisasikan diri dengan baik sesuai dengan tema district kita
“Ultimate Yours!!” dan membangun perdamaian seperti yang
disampaikan oleh melalui tema Rotary International President
Sakuji Tanaka melalui temanya, “Peace through Service.”

enthusiam. Thus in return, I would like to embrace this club to
grow and make bigger impact to our community.
Life is amazingly colorful. The same with experience in RAC
Gambir. Having to work with different people will open your
eyes that everyone is unique and has their own creative way in
contributing to club. So many differences and potentials,, but
one thing for sure that connects us is our passion to embrace
ourselves as family and support others.
With this level of enegry, I believe that we can make a differ-
ence to engage in better serving to our community. Everything
is possible! Thank you RAC Gambir and thank you Rotary Club
of Jakarta Gambir for supporting us. Our joint event commu-

more to our community!
