Early Life
Born in Chicago, Illinois on September 12, 1935.
Raised by an artist, the arts were in his blood. As he grew up he began to show great talent as a drawer, painter, and sculptor.
As a teen he attended the Junior School of The Art Institute and later attended the Chicago Art Institute.
Achievements
Richard Hunt was appointed to serve on the board of National Endowment for the Arts by President Lyndon B. Johnson.
He also served on the Smithsonian Institution board.
Richard Hunt was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award by the International Sculptor Center.
Hunt’s Work
The sculpture on the right is entitled Harlem Hybrid. It is made from welded bronze and is located in New York,
New York. It was dedicated in 1976.

Hunt’s Work
“And You, Seas…” is a 40 foot sculpture which is made of welded
stainless steel. It is located in St. Joseph, Michigan
“We Will” made in 2005 from welded stainless steel. It is
located in front of the Heritage Building in Chicago, Illinois.

“Pass Thru” Made from stainless steel. It is located at
the art museum of the University of Kentucky.
“Tower Hybrid”. Made form COR-TEN steel. It is located in
the Laumeier Sculpture Park in St. Louis, Missouri.

Made from Bronze. It is located in our very own Weatherspoon Art
Museum sculpture garden.
