A Survey of Revelation
Week 1
General Considerations
• On the doctrine of last things, there are two main areas for us to focus on:
1. What conservative Christians generally agree on.
2. What conservative Christians generally disagree on
Areas of Agreement
• Conservative Christians generally agree that:–Christ will return for His Church–Christ will judge everyone
Areas of Agreement
• Conservative Christians generally agree that:–After the judgment, heaven or hell
forever–The exact day of judgment is unknown
to us
Areas of Disagreement
• Conservative Christians generally disagree on:– Will there be a literal 1000 year reign of Christ on
earth before the final judgment?– Will the church be “raptured” for a time?– The date of Revelation– The tribulation. What will be the quality of life for
believers prior to Christ’s return?
Revelation 1:1-3
Think about the following questions as we read the “prologue” 1:1-3.
• What is the process by which the revelation gets to John?
• Who are the recipients of the revelation?
• What is meant by “the time is near”?
Revelation 1:4-8
• What blessing is given to the churches?
• Who gives this blessing?
Revelation 1:4-8
• What is meant by the 7 spirits who are before the throne? (See 4:5; Zech. 4:2, 6)• How are the 3 offices of Jesus
Christ (prophet, priest and king) here ?
“Vision of the Son of Man” 1:9-20.
• What are the circumstances of John’s life at the time of this revelation?• What and who did John see in his
vision?
“Vision of the Son of Man” 1:9-20.
• How did John respond?• How did the Lord respond to John’s
action? • What are the seven stars in His
hand?
