Retractable Probe Procedure For DumpStar Systems
and 700 Series Retractable Sensors
Retractable Sensor Part Identification
Note: Never touch either hex nut on the Primary Seal.
To Install the Sensing Element
To Install the Sensing Element
1. Back out the retention screws.
To Install the Sensing Element
2. Loosen the packing nut at the slider gland so that the sensing element will slide out easily.
3. Retract the sensor until the blowout stop (retaining clip) is reached.

4. Thread or Flange the sensing element to the block valve. Minimum valve ID is 7/8” (0.875”).
To Install the Sensing Element
5. Tighten the packing nut into the slider gland just enough so that the sensing element will still slide, but tight enough to prevent product leakage from the gland.
To Install the Sensing Element
6. Do not stand directly behind the sensor.
7. Crack the blocking valve open.
To Install the Sensing Element
8. If product leakage is observed, tighten the packing nut slightly.
To Install the Sensing Element
9. Insert the sensing element fully into the vessel, making sure that the retaining groove slides into the packing nut.
To Install the Sensing Element
10.Tighten the retention screws snugly into the retaining groove.
11. Finally, tighten the packing nut again to prevent any leakage.
12. Installation is complete.

Note: If necessary remove power wires and wiring to relay terminals.
To Retract the Sensing Element
To Retract the Sensing Element
1. Stand clear of the sensing element, back out the retention screws.
To Retract the Sensing Element
2. Loosen the packing nut at the slider gland, cautiously.
To Retract the Sensing Element
Caution: It is possible that vessel pressure may push the sensor fully out to the blowout stop. This may occur suddenly.
To Retract the Sensing Element
3. Withdraw the sensing element until contact is felt with the blowout stop (retaining clip).
Caution: Flammable liquid can escape at this point. Do not perform this procedure near open flame or any ignition source.
