Yet another AGM done and dusted. It is good to see a few new faces on the
committee so a big welcome. It nearly goes without saying, that you are not
locked out of contributing just because you may not be on the committee.
There is always rally work to do and it would be great if we could get some
more articles and photos for the magazine, and suggestions for the ride
calendar. The addition of extra machine examiners to the committee reflects
the growth of the club, and will not only lessen the load for each examiner, but
also give members the chance of finding an examiner closer to home.
With regard to the ride calendar, I have been putting three months in the magazine at a time to cover the overlap that sometimes occur when the next magazine is sent out. This allows members to look ahead especially with regards to rallies and weekends away, but the down side is that there are sometimes changes so when the new magazine goes online or is emailed out, please check the calendars match up for the overlap period. With regard to communication, Mick Carpenter has started the club’s own Facebook page and it is going great guns with photos, videos and comments and is attracting a large number of “hits”. There have also been bikes and bits for sale, so it is one to follow. There has been a good response to members sending in their emails and there are now some 50 members having the magazine sent directly to their inbox. They can then download it and store it on their computer and even enhance the pictures and text for easier viewing. Join them and send your mobile number and email address to [email protected]

Out and About
Copmanhurst for Lunch, 2nd July.
A big turn out with 3 RT BMW’s and most riders on club registered bikes. Despite the bumps on the Orara Valley Way, it was a pleasant ride up and then most people wandered home under their own steam. The Copmanhurst pub did us proud with quality food at a reasonable price, supported by cool beverages.

Overnighter to Long Flat and the Wauchope Yesteryear Truck and Machinery Show, 8th -9th July
Great weekend, with fine weather, good displays at the Yesteryear show in Wauchope including those by Taree, Port Macquarie and Natureland Club members. It was also a good reminder of what a great spot the Travellers Rest Hotel at Long Flat is!
The food was great, the beverages cold, the open fire warm and the free camping down next to the beautiful Hastings River was the icing on the cake!
Mid-Week Ride to Red Rock, 19th July A pleasant ride and good company is all that is needed for an enjoyable morning tea.
The “Magnificent Seven”; Could this be the reason that no outlaw clubs have come to Red Rock?

Tamworth Rally and Ride. 12th -16th July. We went “the long way around”, leaving on Wednesday with 4 members riding down to Gloucester and over the Barrington Tops to the Moonan Flat’s hotel. Next day’s ride was to the Spring Ridge hotel via Sandy Hollow, the Bylong Valley, Coolah then Premer. On Friday, it was via Werris Creek and into Tamworth to meet a couple of our other members bringing the Coffs Harbour contingent up to 8 to join in the Friday ride out to Somerton. On Saturday morning the rain came in heavy and most people stayed indoors, but the intrepid Rob Popplewell joined the ride 3.00pm and 3OC at Barrington
and reported there were more marshals than Tops. Glen wanted a beanie
riders! But he enjoyed the ride out towards and Marg a scrub down! Nundle and then to Wallabadah for morning tea, before heading through Werris Creek to Currabubula for lunch. The dinner that night was well attended and went smoothly. The Tamworth organisers were given a sound round of applause for their efforts and an enjoyable rally despite the weather. The Sunday morning ride was out to Moonbi by backroads and then for the Coffs crew it was turn North via Walcha Road and Kentucky to head home via Ebor.
Glen found the road was slippy!

Concours d'Elégance, 29th July.
A perfect day at the Glenreagh Timber Festival, with a big crowd, large car
display but small bike showing. Our winner was a close run between the 1954
Ariel Huntmaster and the Triumph TR6. In the final analysis we came down in
favour of Pop's Ariel as the most original. There was also a good showing of
members from Natureland and Clarence Valley clubs who dropped in for the
show. The $10 subsidy with lunch for the entrants was also well received!
Article and photos from Ned O’Brien, who co-judged with Terry Ryan from Clarence Valley Club
Nabiac Swap Meet. 30th July.
Well attended by our members both as traders and purchasers. There was a
good array of stalls with many traders of note with strong sections in Triumph,
BSA and Harley parts as well as tools and literature.
Sculptures in the Jail, 6th August.
An early start obviously scarred some, but the four bikes that attended were all
club registered and were greeted by great weather, quiet roads and a most
enjoyable ride down. We were later joined by Mick Carpenter and his wife
returning from the Saturday ride to raise awareness for organ donation. With
the Taree, Port Macquarie and Natureland clubs in attendance, there was a
good showing of bikes and plenty of camaraderie. The sculptures and the
setting of the goal were spectacular and after a good look around, some
scrumptious food and a bit of music in the Sun, we headed home about
2.00pm.

The Stuart’s Point Men’s Shed Motorcycle Show
Saturday Sept 2, 2017
It seems like around six or eight months ago when we decided as a club to
engage more broadly with the public, to try and get old motorcycle culture into
the eyes and minds of the wider community.
Being a member of Stuarts Point Men’s Shed I extended this idea to the shed
and the shed was quick to invite CHMRC to bring their bikes down for a
barbeque lunch.
From there the ball was rolling. Turn around three times, and strong moto-
enthusiasm had been exposed in the shed. Then, when shed members were
talking about much needed fundraising, I piped in with the motorcycle show
idea. After much talking and searching a date was named and structure for the
show began to take shape.
As a member of Stuarts Point Men’s Shed I invite all CHMRC members to dust
off our best machines and get down for a great weekend at Stuarts Point. There
is a maiden perpetual trophy for overall most popular bike and a holiday
package to be won for over 30yrs and modern motorcycle divisions.
The Stuarts Point community is quietly excited about welcoming a group of old
motorcycles to town. There is a good chance the whole town will turn out for
the show. A group of locals will even be making breakfasts for one and all on
Sunday morning in the Stuarts Point Holiday Park barbeque area. Not sure what
they will charge, but great to have breakfast organised before the ride home.
There are many accommodation options at Stuarts Point, the camping area in
the caravan park is right on the water, lovely 0265 690 616. Most of the other
are for three-day minimum stays but when shared with others these digs can
become very inexpensive and comfortable. call Pam or Kylie on 0265 690 447
for access to many cabins houses and apartments in town. There are also free
camping options available in the area if you don’t need too many facilities, call
me for more info. Remember it will be Fathers-Day weekend so if you want it
get in early or you may miss out. Grassy Head (4k north) also has a caravan
park with cabins and camping – 0265 690 742.
Cheers for now – Mark Merritt – 0427 571 770

Ned’s Joke of the Month.
An elderly and drunk man walks into a bike bar, sits down and orders a drink.
Looking around he sees three bikies sitting at a corner table. The old man gets
up, staggers to the table, leans over, looks at the biggest, baddest, meanest
bikie right in the eye and says, "Boy, I was in your grandma's house today and I
saw her in the hallway, butt naked. Man, she is one fine-looking woman!"
The bikie looks straight back at him and doesn't say a word. His buddies are
confused, because he really is one bad bikie and known to prefer a fight to a
feed.
The drunk leans on the table again and says, with an even bigger leer, "I got it
on with your grandma, boy, and damn she is gooood, the best I ever had!"
The bikie's mates are now furious and jump to their feet, but the bikie says
nothing and holds the others back. The drunk leans on the table one more time,
brings his face just two inches from the bikie and spits it out, "I'll tell you
something else, boy, your grandma liked it!"
At this point, the bikie stands up, looks him square in the eyes and says:
"Grandpa, go home. You're drunk again."
