This 15,590-acre wildlife habitat managementarea is five miles southeast of Hyattville and isco-managed by the Wyoming Game and FishDepartment, U.S. Bureau of Land Managementand the State of Wyoming. These lands wereacquired in 1979 for the purpose of providingcrucial big game winter range. About 250 muledeer winter here along with about 500 elk.Follow the rugged Hyattville Logging Road fromHyattville through Renner up to the BighornNational Forest for beautiful scenery.There is a variety of vegetation types at varyingelevations from 4,000 feet to almost 8,000 feet.You will find sagebrush grasslands, mountainshrubs, and ponderosa pine forests. RennerReservoir, a 72-acre, man-made impoundment atthe upper end of Ziesman Canyon, alsocontributes to the scenic beauty of this area.Geology enthusiasts will be interested in the rockformations that look like "biscuit dough".If you like to hunt, there are deer, elk, chukar,cottontail rabbits and blue grouse. The juniperdraws of the upper (east) portion of Renner holdmule deer during the fall hunting season. In thelate summer, look for sage-grouse hens rearingtheir chicks in the open sagebrush parks. Thereservoir is stocked with largemouth bass, andthe fishing is good (the reservoir is currently dryfor our dredging project). Canada Geese, ducks,shorebirds, songbirds and many small mammalslive here. Whether you hunt, fish, bird watch orlike to take photographs, you will enjoy a visit toRenner.Camping limit is 14 days.The upper (east) portion of this area is closedeach year from January 1 through May 31. Thelower (west) portion is open all year.
