• Average age of auto mechanics = 45 years & older (47% of mechanics); median age is 43;
• Half of the existing workforce looking to retire within 10 years;
• Currently not enough techs to meet industry needs;
• Can’t get enough certified techs;• Average age of cars on the road – 11 years.

Vision Grow Talent, Serve Urban Market
• In 1996, Rich Liebler – then a Ford Motor exec. who represented all U.S. dealerships, now Chief Administrative Officer, Sansone Auto Mall – had a vision of serving the community and gaining new auto service tech entrants.
• Asked corporate invest $1 million to build out 12,000-square-foot facility at New Community Corp., that included 12 car lifts.
• Ford ultimately branded the training model – Ford Motor Maintenance & Light Repair Certificate, which mirrors the industry’s MLR certificate;
• Ultimately Ford rolled the training out to 13 states;• Last year, 38 locations (mostly community colleges) graduated

New Community Corp. Auto Mechanics Training
• 29 jobseekers began 1,200-hour NCC Ford Automotive Technician Training 2013; attrition – 23 completed.
• Participants began internships – Mar/April 2014; 18 hired at Sansone, Ford, Jiffy Lube, Goodyear, Firestone, NJ Transit, Volkswagon, etc. to-date.
• 20 employers – Sansone, Jiffy Lube, Virgo Medical Services. Technicians (A,B,C Level) $25K to $125K per annum, service writers $50K to $100K, parts department (stockers, drivers, counterpersons, managers), salespersons $40K to $150K.
• Employers to be engaged in TLD roundtable.
• CareerWorks will significantly scale this program in 2015 and make it a pipeline to more employers.
Walmart RFP – Delivering TLD Workforce
• CareerWorks is applying its $220,000 Jobs for the Future/NFWS-Walmart Foundation grant to scale up its Ford Motor automotive service technician training to serve 200 job seekers over two years.
• Expand beyond the current 20 auto dealers and related automotive companies & lay the groundwork for a Port Auto Logistics pipeline training.
• Goal: Walmart Foundation grant serves as the catalyst for developing a truly end-to-end pipeline workforce partnership and a pilot Port-related workforce project in transportation, logistics and distribution.

• Case management• Mentoring • Transportation• For example in NCC’s network of supportive
services, program participants have access to housing services, emergency food assistance, and case management/counseling services.
• NCC’s business advisory board meets quarterly – Ford, Sansone Auto Mall, etc.
