Community Benefit Organizations play a vital role in society. Their focus on meetingneeds that would otherwise go unmet has resulted in their increasingly significant rolecentral to the well-being and health of our communities and our nation. A traditionalmodel of CBO governance has permeated the sector since its inception. The role of theboard has changed very little over the years while their focus and functionality continueto decline. This workshop will explore a new work model of exceptional CBO boards
one that builds engaged and satisfied board members.Students will:1. Understand the roles and responsibilities of CBO boards;2. Identify the qualities of exceptional boards;3. Identify available resources for board development; and4. Determine the first step of an action plan for board improvement.

The intent of this discussion is to present some of the basic concepts that are unique toaccounting and reporting for Community Benefit Organizations, including the financialstatements required by the Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB). An overviewof basic Accounting Principles as well as review of primary Financial Statements will beprovided; however, we will focus on the interpretation of data of these reports as well asinternal controls imperative for the success of any organization. Financial Tools for Tough Times Intermediate
This workshop provides guidance and tools to manage through challenging financialtimes. It helps nonprofit leaders develop and use financial information to make better,sometimes difficult decisions, and to better communicate their financial story to funders,board members, and other stakeholders.
