Step 1 : Call for problems
As a call for papers in a more traditional conference
2,000$ to post a problem for this first year
Step 2 : Broadcasting of problems
Selection of the problems that would benefit most from the approach
« Broadcast of search » approach as for other innovation accelerators
Support by IDTEQ researchers to well define the problem (one « ambassador » per seeker) and to prepare the seeker for the conference day
Step 3 : Finding and motivating solvers
Finding the best potential solvers by specific broadcasts,
Using IDTEQ’s networks (the power of the R&D organizations)
Using social media for general broadcast
Step 4 : Seeking for solution in a cocreation mode
transfer from an exclusively online platform approach to a real collaboration between potential solvers
Networking opportunities much larger than the classical one (many problems requiring multidisciplinary skills)

Highlights New ideas Ideas confirmed Networking Better understanding of the problems
Feedback on the process Great experience No IP problem during the day (possible
to have real business discussion in a very open approach)
A very good convergence step Somehow destabilizing for some
researcher (but in the end very positive)
Outcomes Kruger: 2 new application ideas Labrie: came with a need for
incremental innovation/ ended with a radical one
Living Lab / DMR: merged during the day !

1 problem with critical consequences Either they find a solution or
the manufacturing plant closes down
8 questions out of the World cafe
5 ideas to explore 3 probable solutions 3 new products were
proposed (paper tarpaulin to preserve soil humidity)
1 action to follow up Will the facility remain open ?
To be continued…
100 hours already spent trying to find a solution
Needed to « get out of the box » and far from their own paradigms
No apparent solution, no end date estimated This event was a « make it
or break it » case This event provides
answers never imagined before
Success of the first edition Main goals:
▪ democratization of OI tools for SMEs, ▪ validation of the value creation of such a conference
▪ For the seekers▪ For the solver
Results: ▪ 10 industrial problems submitted (we targeted five), ▪ value creation for the seekers
▪ networking outside the « normal » network▪ value from the ambassadors (better understanding of their own problem ▪ Visibility for the seekers▪ Innovation acceleration (will be measured in the next months)
▪ Value for solvers▪ Better visibility of the R&D centers and the value of working with them▪ Contact with real industry problems and networking for students
▪ Value for the community▪ Great laboratory for real open innovation▪ Enhancing community innovation spirit 12
