My fellow participants,

The National Business Aviation Association’s Annual Meeting and Convention (NBAA2011) is the biggest event of its kind in North America. With over 1,100 exhibitors and 23,000 visitors each year, this international assembly is a prime opportunity to forge productive business relations and lasting partnerships with key industry players.

Québec boasts a number of prime contractors and OEMs that specialize in such key fields as avionics, space systems, landing gear and systems integration. Bombardier, CAE and Pratt & Whitney Canada are just some of the firms with a longstanding presence in the province.

The strength of Québec’s aerospace industry is due to the ongoing synergy between industry, education and R&D. Furthermore, a number of international aviation organizations have chosen to settle here, including the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO), the International Air Transport Association (IATA) and the International Business Aviation Council (IBAC).

Home to key international organizations and leading industry players, Montréal is today a world capital of civil aviation and a major international aerospace hub on par with Seattle and Toulouse.

Over the years, we have created a competitive business environment, notably by supporting research and innovation. The Québec aerospace industry conducts 70% of the R&D in Canada, keeping it on the cutting edge of technology and securing its growth through innovation and new products.

The Québec Aerospace Industry

Thanks to exceptional synergy between industry leaders, SMEs, universities, research centres and the government, the Québec aerospace industry has emerged as an international leader in the field. Companies in the province employ nearly 40,000 people, accounting for half of Canada’s total aerospace workforce.

Coming in fifth worldwide with sales of $10.9 billion in 2010, Québec represents approximately 55% of the Canadian industry’s total turnover. Over 80% of Québec’s aerospace output is exported.

The industry’s strength hinges on the presence of a number of prime contractors and OEMs that specialize in such key fields as avionics, space systems, landing gear, systems integration and so on.

A number of firms—including Esterline CMC Electronics, Bombardier Aerospace, Pratt & Whitney Canada and CAE—have been in the province for decades. In recent years, this prestigious group has expanded to include seven other key players, notably Bell Helicopter, Sonaca Montreal and Thales. Together, they form an elite cluster that is backed by some 210 local SMEs who, as subcontractors or suppliers, offer the full range of specialties required for aircraft assembly, from machining parts to designing the most sophisticated software.

The Québec industry can also draw on the expertise and know-how of a skilled and motivated workforce, one whose succession is ensured through dedicated programs in the province’s high schools, colleges and universities. In addition, the skills of the next generation stand to continually improve thanks to specialized training programs and innovative initiatives undertaken in partnership with businesses in the field.

Who we are: Air Data designs, builds and commercializes innovative, com-petitive advanced avionic solutions as well as power solutions with products designed for commercial, military and business aircraft, including helicopters and unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Air Data team of highly qualified engineers and technicians have extensive experience in both avionic and power solutions. fault detection and isolation capability is also one of their fea-tures. The unit packaging is extremely robust and provides a standard pitot and static tubing interface.

Pitot probes: Introduced in 2006, the Air Data line of pitot probes has been selected for a number of important programs. Air Data’s pitot-static probes are heated, measure dynamic and static pressures and can be tailored to various application requi-rements.

Specialized avionics: Air Data has developed the skills, tools and know-how to work as a highly valued partner with OEMs, from the preliminary study to the manufacturing phase of tailor-made avionics systems. Air Data also has a complete laboratory for environmental testing and qualification of its products.

Power solutions: Air Data specializes in providing Power Solu-tions to OEMs serving the aerospace industry with products designed for commercial and business aircraft, including heli-copters. Air Data power solutions include motor control, power supply and generator control units. Air Data cost-effective power solutions offer higher reliability and performance while reducing weight and lowering operating costs.
