Pads, pads, push, push.
• This exercise will help a player dribble the ball while repeating this phrase in their head while dribbling.
• Using the pads of the finger tips to push the ball down when dribbling.
“Pads, pads,Push, push”
Waist High• While dribbling the
ball, the ball should be bouncing up to the waist level. This can help the player dribble easier and with more control when practicing and in a basketball game.
“Waist High”
Bent Knees• Keeping the knees
bent while dribbling can help maintain control of the ball, and allows for quick movements of the feet when necessary.
Front/Back Stance• The Front/Back Stance
position allows greater balance when dribbling the ball, because it sets the body in a mid-low position for better stability.
• This allows for quick and easy movements while ball handling.
Hot Feet• With “Hot Feet” a
player must be constantly on their toes, keeping their feet moving at all times. This helps the player to be ready to move quickly at any given time.
“Hot Feet”
• “Eyes Up”• Once you able to
dribble the ball in good control and comfortably, you can begin to look up while dribbling.
• With your “eyes up” you can look up to see your teammates for a pass, dribble past an opponent or look at the hoop for a shot in a basketball game.
Dribble While Traveling
~Keep in mind that the ball should be pushed down slightly ahead of you when traveling and dribbling at the same time. This will make any activity or game more fun!
