DISMAS MINISTRY
SPRING GREETING CARD DRIVE
The Dismas Ministry of St. Charles Borromeo Parish continues
its Greeting Card Drive this weekend — April 28 and 29.
The purpose of this drive will be to replenish our supplies of
greeting cards used to correspond
with inmates at the Grafton
Correctional Institution. Cards are
sent for Birthdays, Holidays, and
Veterans Days to cheer the inmates
who in many cases have no one else,
a Corporal Work of Mercy commanded by Our Lord.
Please drop off your unused greeting cards to the Parish Hall
Saint Vincent DePaul Room before or after Mass on these
weekends. Dismas Ministry team members will be there to
accept your donations. Card donations may also be dropped
off in the Parish Office from April 21st to the 29th. PLEASE
DO NOT LEAVE CARDS IN THE CHURCH. Monetary
Donations will also be accepted in the Sunday Collection
Basket (mark envelope “Dismas Ministry”) or in the Parish
Office. Your Generosity is Greatly Appreciated.
This weekend, April 29, is a Fifth Sunday of the
month. Following our long-standing parish custom, there
will be a second collection at Mass today for the
St Vincent de Paul Society of St Charles Borromeo
Parish.
Last Sunday, April 22, was First Communion Day.
Congratulations to our second graders and to their families. Thank
you to all who helped to prepare our First Communicants for this
happy day. Our Special Education Program will celebrate First
Communion this Wednesday, May 2, at the 7:00pm Mass.
Today, Sunday, April 29, we welcome Cleveland’s new bishop,
Nelson Perez for his first official visit to St Charles. Bishop Perez
will celebrate the Sacrament of Confirmation at 2:30pm for our
eighth graders and for this year’s Adult Confirmation Class.
Welcome, Bishop Perez!
Congratulations to long-time and faithful St Charles parishioner
Gary Cirino, who will be awarded the St George Emblem in
recognition of his many years of work with our Scouts. This
prestigious award recognizes Gary’s “significant contribution to
the spiritual development of youth in the Scouting program.” The
Award will be given this Sunday afternoon at St John Cathedral.
And speaking of Scouts, congratulations to St Charles Boy
Scouts Andrew Soos, Jimmy Fano, Joshua Koces, and Nathan
Tohati who earned the Ad Altare Dei Award; St Charles Scouts
Brandon Umstead, Steve Gademer, Joe Miklosovic, Jacob Koces,
and Matt Marko have earned the Pope Pius XII Award.
Next Sunday, May 6, is Polish Constitution Day. The celebrant
of the Sunday 10:00am Mass will be Father Robert Ramser, a son
of Cleveland’s St Stanislaus Parish currently serving as parochial
vicar at St. Ambrose Parish in Brunswick. St Charles is at the
center of Parma’s “Polish Village.” Anything that helps and
strengthens the neighborhood is good for St Charles Parish. Many
thanks to our local hard-working City Councilperson, Debbie Lime,
who promotes so well the “Polish Village” concept. Attend the
Sunday 2:00pm Parade on Ridge Road (from the Circle to Snow
Road) and visit the Party on the Parking Lot at our Credit Union,
5839 Ridge, beginning at 3:00pm on Sunday.
On Sunday, May 13, at the 12:00noon Mass, we will thank
Sister Denise Marie for her twenty-five years of faithful and loving
service at St. Charles Borromeo Parish. The leadership of the
Ursuline Sisters of Cleveland has directed that Sister Denise Marie
must assume a new ministry--Sister must live and work at the
Ursuline Motherhouse in Pepper Pike. So Sister is preparing to
leave St Charles and take on her new responsibilities next month.
This transfer was unexpected by all of us and certainly very
disappointing, but—faithful to her vow of obedience—Sister tells me
she is doing her best to carry out the wishes of her superiors.
Make sure you “clip-and-keep” the May Parish Activities
Calendar found in this bulletin.
It has been a long, tough, cold winter. So as the days continue
to lengthen and warm, it’s not too soon to mention Summer
Carnival 2018. The letters are written, the tickets are printed, and
there’s a 2018 Ford Fusion S waiting to be raffled off. This year’s
Carnival mailing will soon be on the way to your home. The
Carnival Committee has lots of fun in store. Carnival 2018 dates?
Wednesday to Sunday, July 11, 12, 13, 14 and 15!

MARY QUEEN OF PEACE (216-749-2323)
Please review the candidate statements below in preparation for the Parish Council Election
next weekend (May 5 & 6). You will be asked to vote for no more than four candidates.
As a husband, happily married to Melissa (nee Borsz) and a father of two Wildcats, Maddie (3rd grade) and Luke (1st
grade), I am grateful for this Parish which has helped mold me into the man I am today. Melissa and I chose St. Charles
after moving to Middleburg Hts. nearly 10 years ago, and are constantly rewarded with a vibrant parish community that
is exceedingly selfless. An opportunity to pay that generosity forward is one that I take seriously, and would be thrilled to
undertake. Currently I attend and volunteer at PTU events, organize the Post Cana nights, and help coordinate volun-
teers for the Carnival. As an active school parent, engineer, and former president/director of a local non-profit, I believe
my diverse set of experiences and skills would serve the parish well.
I have been a parishioner of St. Charles Borromeo for the past three years, and in that time, I have enjoyed seeing and
participating in the many opportunities the parish provides for faith enrichment. I seek your vote for Parish Council so I,
too, can contribute in the development of these important offerings. In my day-to-day life I am an IT Supervisor for a
major paint and chemical coatings company, giving me experience working with others, managing finances, and repre-
senting the diverse needs of various teams. These attributes, when combined with my deeply-held passion for our faith,
will enable me to effectively identify and represent the interests of our parish community. If elected for this position, my
ultimate objective is to grow in my faith through working with others in our parish, and, in whatever way I can, help
others also grow and deepen in their faith as well.
I have a son, daughter-in-law and two amazing grandsons who live in Powell, Ohio. I have been a parishioner at St.
Charles Borromeo for 21 years. I have assisted Sr. Denise with the Youth Group Retreat meals and the annual graduation
social. I currently belong to the St. Vincent De Paul Dismas Ministry and the Holy Name Hot Meal programs. I am proud
to be part of St. Charles Borromeo and am excited for the opportunity to serve on Parish Council to help St. Charles
Borromeo in any way that I can to improve, grow and thrive. Thank you for your consideration.
I have been a parishioner for 5 years. Both of my children attend St. Charles school; my daughter in second grade and my
son in kindergarten. I was raised in Our Lady of Good Counsel parish and attended high school at Magnificat. I practiced
as a chiropractic physician for 10 years and upon completion of my MBA, I transitioned into an administrative role as-
sisting primary care physicians in the management of their private practices. The gifts that I can bring Parish Counsel
include an extensive background in marketing and retention-based programs, financial analysis and organizational
structuring. I have been assisting with organizing of the carnival volunteers and volunteering to assist the PTU with
various events. I would welcome the opportunity to share more of my talents with the parish.
I am a lifelong resident of Parma and parishioner at St. Charles. I graduated from St Charles school ̶ as did my daughters
and two of my granddaughters. Since retiring as a nurse two years ago, I became interested in volunteering in the parish
ministries. I am currently a member of the Dismas Ministry, St Vincent de Paul Society and the Cyrenians. I have strong
roots to St. Charles parish and would consider it an honor to serve on Parish Council.
