Autonomous Flight Safety System
The Autonomous Flight Safety System (AFSS) is a critical launch system technological advancement addressing Space Based Range (SBR) needs. In doing so, the AFSS augments or replaces the traditional human in the loop ground command flight termination range safety systems. Our AFSS is a ruggedized vehicle system that is comprised of flight processors, approved flight algorithms, GPS receivers, Inertial Measurement Units (IMU), and flight termination logic circuitry. In operation, flight processor algorithms determine vehicle trajectory tolerance and range safety mission rule violations. In other words, the AFSS issues a flight terminate command through the synthesis of mission parameters and sensor data. As a result, LJT’s AFSS products utilize Air Force 30th Space Wing and NASA original algorithms to produce and maintain range qualified (RCC 319-10) Core Autonomous Safety Software (CASS).
Technical CapabilitiesAFSS performance requirements meet or are tailored to meet the Range Commanders Council Range Safety Group’s Flight Termination Commonality Standard RCC 319-10. Upon range approval, the AFSS flexible architecture can be arranged to accommodate the following configurations:
» Single String (single or dual processor with watch dog) » Redundant Strings (with voting algorithm) » Single/Dual Sensor GPS Solution » GPS/IMU to Produce INS Solution » GPS/Vehicle IMU to Produce INS Solution
The AFSS internal components (Processor Cards, Power Supplies, Custom Logic Cards, Memory, and GPS Receivers) are housed in a modified COTS ruggedized cPCI form factor chassis to save cost.
Mission CustomizationLJT partners with DoD, Civil Space, and commercial customers to develop AFSS technology to meet mission needs. LJT has an extensive history in supporting the development of AFSS systems dating to the first production and test configurations for NASA. The AFSS is designed to support sounding rockets, missile testing, and other emerging platforms such as UAS and UAVs.
