Program
› Research has shown that “categorizing written words through word sorts, word hunts, and writing sorts enables learners to sort out the relationships” in spelling, sounds, and letter patterns.

› Work with teacher three times per week.
› Choice activities that are completed independently or with partners.
› LOTS of discussion and questioning.
School Routines:
› 3 Choice options throughout the week
› Choices are on a menu inside their Word Study notebook.
› 1 practice test before the assessment
= 4 assignments
Homework
› Extension will be provided to show understanding.– Teacher gives new word
that fits the sort.– Student chooses word not
given that fits the sort.– Question about part of
speech – Use in a sentence.
› Completed in class.
› Usually only 10 words are chosen from different categories.
› Set up like Neat List
