History Function Importance-The idea of a replacement for the old Constantinian basilica is mooted by Pope Nicholas V.-Originally founded by old Constantine edifice, and rebuild began on April 18, 1506 and was completed in 1626-Rebuilt by the Renaissance masters that included Bramante, Michelangelo and Bernini using the High Renaissance style. - built accordingly to tradition above the burial site of St. Peter
