Contract Fundamentals

student learner achieves and completes goals and is ready for more challenging ones
Learning Contract Goals
In this program, goals are fixedStrategies or activities to reach the

Similarities Exist….
Students are placed in a variety of placement sites
Similarities cut across those experiences Concerns & challenges for students appear to
come in a predictable order Studying this phenomena can prevent
unnecessary anxiety, unrealistic views & unsuccessful outcomes. Why not let it work?
The Five Stages are….
1. Anticipation2. Disillusionment3. Confrontation4. Competence5. Culmination
These occur over the three semesters of field placement
Task accomplishment: the attitudes, skills, & knowledge that you hope to acquire at each stage
Anticipation Stage
A time of excitement! Along with eagerness & hope, there is
inevitably some anxiety Anxiety may not be visible to you; there are
enough unknowns in this experience to cause some anxiety and concern in anyone.
Anxiety centers around self, supervisor, co-workers & sometimes clients & community
Anticipation, cont’d…
This is the “can I handle it?” stage? Often at this stage, the “it” isn’t necessarily
defined yet Depending on your personal situation, you
may carry concerns that your vocational choice expressed through the internship may affect those you care about
It is a demanding experience
Anticipation cont’d….
Task accomplishment at this stage is relatively low. You might get frustrated that you are not learning the specific tasks yet that you went to the agency to learn.
Most important work at this stage is: defining specific and achievable goals identifying what skills you need to reach them
Internship Stages
Each week we will discuss a new stage of internship to help you process your experience as a whole, not just compartmentalized into separate semesters.
I challenge you to be aware of the growth and change that happens throughout the program and track your successes and areas for growth.
