Front cover construction
This is my first logo idea, I got the idea from ‘SBTV’ which is a music channel. I changed it to ‘ETV’ because I thought my magazine could be a spin off of a television channel for example: ‘BBC music magazine’.
• Then I decided that the ‘E’ could stand for explicit which means ‘very clear and without doubt’ and suits the genre of my magazine which is hip-hop which I think is very explicit
• I then decided that I was going to make it very simple which was black and white and that I was going to have the name of the magazine which is ‘Explicit’ next to my logo
• These are all the photos I took for my front page
I chose this one because it looks quite aggressive and has the correct attitude and it clearly relates to music as he’s in a studio.
• I took this picture, I then put it on PhotoShop I cropped the picture and removed the background. This meant then when I put it onto Quark it could fit onto the colour
background of my magazine and I also made it larger
I increased the saturation, made the colours more vivid and increased the contrast to give more drama to the imagine, by doing this I was hoping my finished image was going to look more professional
• Having finished my work on photoshop I put the picture on quark and began to add text, I got ideas of content a style from other rap magazines, for example they would only use 2 or 3 colours and similar type faces. In the end I decided to use red yellow and white and I used Charcoal, Helvetica and Lucida Grande type faces as they worked together well. Real magazines use space and I made sure that there was a large area around the artist that wasn’t covered, I then put in barcodes, prices and websites
I started by having photoshoping my photo and placed it onto my front cover on quark, I then had to build the rest of the cover. I started of by researching other hiphop magazines to see what I should include and to see what kind of things I should relate to. I started by thinking of appropriate stories that I could put on the front cover. This is my final front page and I am really pleased with it.
