CHILDREN’S MINISTRIES AT PCC

Sunday School Messy Church

Trunk or Treat is always such a GREAT event for our children and families! My team could use any and all hands on deck for this great event! If you are able to help volunteer or would like to work behind the scenes for this special event– please let me know. ([email protected]) In year’s past we have done a lot of prep work to make this event a huge success, so we anticipate it going off without a hitch again this year! Trunk or Treat will be held on Saturday, October 29th– so please begin planning your TRUNKS and COSTUMES… and don’t forget to pray about where you might be able to serve for this fun family event!

Messy Church, held on July 31st, was a HUGE success. The children had so much fun working their ways through a messy obstacle and learning that even through life’s difficult and some times

“messy” moments, Jesus is always there for us.

TRUNK OR TREAT!

This September we will be kicking off the next series in our curriculum called TruStory. TruStory reveals God’s incredi-ble plan to elementary-age children and invites them to be a part of it! We are excited to begin this new series and can’t wait share it with our kids.

HABITAT FOR HUMANITY OC PARTNERSHIP OPEN FOR VOLUNTEERS PCC has joined up with Los Ranchos Presbytery churches to help construct a new house in Santa Ana. The first project is coming in November and will help frame up the new home.

I’ll be able to provide more information in the November Covenant Call. If you are interested, you may also ask Lynn Redman, Bill DeHuff or Pastor Tim for details as they become

available. This is a great way to serve others and make new friends along the way.

Session Minutes highlights: Syrian Fellowship

Arfan Jarjour, PCC member, came as a guest of session to share about the Syrian Fellow-ship. They started the Fellowship the last Sunday of January with 18-20 in attendance. Some Sundays since then, they have had up to 35 attending. For Easter several churches joined together at PCC and there were 70 people in attendance. Presbyterian Pastor Adel Malik, who preaches every Sunday is very much appreciated and people are enjoying the service. A choir has been organ-ized. After the service, they go to a home for fellowship. They have started a class to teach young adults what it means to be a Presbyterian. They have a book of hymns in Arabic, some the same as our hymns in English. One lady gave 36 Bibles in Arabic, and a few diglot Bibles, which is an English/Syrian combination. They will begin talking to the congregation to encourage regular giving to help support the costs of the Syrian Fellowship i.e. rent, materials.

“Realizing that all we are and all we have is a gift from God’s abundant love. I support the Presbyterian Church of the Covenant Capital Improvement Campaign by pledging a total of $1000.00 in the names of Great Oma, Anna Maria Schadee and her daughter Corrie Schadee Allen. Both mother and daughter have given of God’s love to hundreds and hundreds of God’s children and asked for nothing in return. Both believe in Jesus Christ and in the resurrection. Both are truly servants of God. For this reason God has smiled on me to have these two special servants of God as my forever, life friends.

A note from the Editor’s wife Feeling Blessed

August 30, 2106 More Gifts from God……..a few hours later, we picked up my sis-ter-in-law, from OC Airport, Brenda Lemon Navarro, who is visit-ing us from OK. I was sharing “Tommy’s Birthday gift with her, and she immediately took $200 from her wallet and said “Please put this your church’s Capital Improvement Campaign.” Next day, as all our family came over to celebrate my birthday, my sister, Annie Berry got her check book out and also donated $200 to our campaign. God is so Good. Thank you Sisters for your support! We love you!, Corrie & Sam

COMMUNION ON THE MOON

Read: Psalm 139:1-12

If I go up to the heavens, you are there -PSALM 139:8

Apollo 11 landed on the surface of the moon on Sunday, July 20, 1969. Most of us are familiar with Armstrong's historic statement as he stepped onto the moon's surface: "That's one small step for a man; one giant leap for mankind." But few know about the first meal eaten there. Buzz Aldrin had brought aboard the spacecraft a tiny communion kit provided by his church. Aldrin sent a radio broadcast to earth asking listeners to contemplate the events of that day and to give thanks. Then, in radio blackout for privacy, Aldrin poured wine into a silver chalice. He read, "I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit" (John 15:5). Silently, he gave thanks and partook of the bread and cup. God is everywhere, and our worship should reflect this reality. In Psalm 139 we are told that wherever we go, God is intimately present with us. Buzz Aldrin celebrated that experience on the surface of the moon. Thousands of miles from earth, he took time to com-mune with the One who created, redeemed, and fellowshipped with him. Are you far from home? Do you feel as if you're on a mountaintop or in a dark valley? No matter what your situation, God's fellowship is only a prayer away.

—Dennis Fisher ——— Ever try to hide from God? No matter where we go-even to the moon or to the remotest place on earth-God is there, desiring a personal relationship with us.

Letter from the Editor Dear PCC Family, As we begin yet another month, I’m reminded how precious life is. We (Corrie and I) lost another 3 friends last week and they have now gone to be with our Lord. Soon we will be attending their Celebrations of Life and pay our respects to their families. I am also reminded that each day is a gift. Our Lord doesn’t promise us tomorrow. Today, the day after the rummage sale, we are blessed to be exhausted, even with the aches & pains, and other personal issues, because we “Showed up”, and made a little difference and that feels good. We had an opportunity to speak to strangers at our Rummage sale, and invite them to come to our church. I’m sure we will see some new faces soon. That’s my greatest wish and joy, to bring more wonderful people into our PCC Family and experience what God is doing here at our church. I was also moved earlier this month and touched at Irene’s Wells Memorial Service. She was a lady well loved and gave of herself joyfully, for many years to our church. She had a beautiful singing voice and would sing “Stille Nacht” (Silent Night) at our Christmas Eve Service. She had asked that our Covenant Choir sing at her service. That was very special, and I was blessed to be part of that tribute, since I, like Irene, love to sing. Jane Carlyle, Elder of Mission Outreach, Carol Applegate and Corrie Allen (the Rummage Sale committee) and others worked tirelessly for a month, to help make our Rummage Sale a success, even though, they would go home everyday, after sorting and moving and unpacking and put icepacks on themselves for awhile, so they could keep going and do all the other things in their day. And then show up again at PCC the next morning at 8 am and ready to do it again. But they were thankful everyday, for what our church family brought the day before and the support that kept on coming. They were thankful for each day. We can’t get over the time and dedication, that Don Beard gave, in designing our PCC Boutique, henceforth to be known as “Don’s Boutique”. No one had more fun than Don. He eyed ever item, that came in and saw the potential and knew just how he would display those precious knick knacks, collectibles or one of a kind treasures. His talents kept us in Awe all the time. Thank you Don for putting your heart in it. “PCC Don’s Boutique” was spectacular. The support from our PCC family was amazing. The donations kept coming in…..and when it was time to get it all together, our PCC family members showed up at 5:30 in the morning, Saturday to make it all happen. Thank YOU to ALL the amazing volunteers who worked throughout the day. We were all exhausted by the end of the day, but again our PCC family was there in full force the Saturday afternoon to cleanup and to get our church back together for Sunday Worship and then again our family came together after church to pack everything up for the Salvation Army Truck. I’m honored to be part of this family.
