Welcome!

The following work samples show the diversity of my previous projects and give an idea on how I am combining user centred research, knowledge about materials as well as production methods and the ability to visualise ideas for innovative products in detail.

Each project is developed in an organised and scheduled process starting from research, competitor analisys, sketches, mock ups and user feedback until the refined result is visualised and realised in the final physical model.

What is the sustainable alternative for domestic flights?

Design opportunity

The aim was to create a comfor-table and sustainable alternative for flights on distances between 800 and 1200 km. Sleeper trains retain a powerful ability to provi-de travel that is both reasonably comfortable, affordable and potentially time-saving. What if these advantages would be used in a bullet train?

Inspiration

Capsule hotels, airline seats and sound absorbing materials were the starting point to design the bullet night train of the future. Continued with mock up testing and ideation workshops.

Final Layout

Each slot is slightly angled to fit a person and luggage within one com-partment. The layout of the individu-al space results in an arc shape which offers space for showers and toilets. The refined layout was realised in a 1:15 physical model.

The interior was mainly 3D printed.

The exterior parts were vacuum for-

med on top of a milled block of foam.

The journey

The interior offers an open space feeling and clearly indicates the different passenger spaces. The electrochromic glass changes light transmission properties when voltage is applied. It is used as a curtain at night.

Security

Luggage is stored and locked within the passenger space and the back rest can be folded up and down with a switch on the left hand side.9

Unique atmosphere

Users can either enjoy the pa-norama view or their WIFI con-nected devices. Half transparent tent covers provide privacy and open space at the same time.

Integrated functionality

Digital devices can be charged at night. The socket is highlighted by the cup holder of the table which provides a pocket for valuables and glasses underneath.

Sound insulation

The sound dampening pattern is used as decorative element and cre-ates a cosy feeling. The space feels like a lounge before people decide to sleep and close their tent covers.11

Concept

The IQ Air concept uses carbonfiber frames in combination with infla-table parts to create a light weight structure for future electric cars. Its structure helps to increase the range of the vehicle and creates a direct access for the recycling process of the airbags.

Bosch Vacuum Disc

„Sous vide“ is a method to cook vaccum sealed food with low temperature to keep vitamins and nutritious ingredients. It is a convenient way to prepare me-als with high flavour and tender texture. The „vaccum disc“ is a unit which pro-vides precise temperature sensoring inside the pot and the ability to vacuum seal food in plastic bags in connection to modern induction cooking plates.

Concept

The vaccum device is used wireless on top of the induction plate. It‘s light ring glows as soon as the device is put in place. The positioning itself starts the device and it needs to be removed to turn it off again. The meal is ready for cooking after the food is vaccum sealed. Two heat sensors can be placed in different pots to have a precise feed-back of the water temperature.21

User centred design

The Umeå postal terminal is one of the biggest mail companies in Europe. The terminal is responsible for delivering one million mail items and packages every day. Due to the low population density in the north of Sweden most of the mail is finally delivered by car.

Teams of two to three students observed different mail men on their route through the city and suburban areas. The experience was shared in a two week user workshop.

2015

In the near future, sorting machines will replace manual sorting. How doesthe new system of the Post look like?

Salto Mortale

The „Miele Rebound“ is particularly suitable for small apartments because it is extremely agile and small.

Inspiration

The formal sources of inspiration are the orga-nic designs of Ross Lovegrove, Saha Hadid and the livestyle of the Popart in the 1960th.

The technical antetype is the electrically operated Tesla Roadster and the hybrid technology of the Chevrolet Volt.

VW Karma

„VW Karma“ is a redesign of the VW Karmann Ghia.

The most important form element is the organic sideline. It is inspired by Virgil Exner‘s Chrysler D‘Elegance. The pulled out front and the air inlets characterize the Ghia‘s facial design. It reminds of the Porsche 356 built in 1950.

The greenhouse is ducked down and the jutsin the front and back have the same length.

Smart keys

The key as we used to know it is dissapearing. Instead it becomes a high tech symbol for the owners car. It communicates its character and shows new ways to interact with a car.

35

Textures

Quick renderings were refined with material textures to show the material combination and ad detail to the visualisation.

35

Drive by wire

The pedal and steering-wheel mechanics can be replaced by small electric units. An OLED surface is used to individualise the interior. Every user has its own „desktop“ which is linked with his user ID to provide an optimal car sharing setup.

Battery Rescue

The „battery rescue“ works like a van carrier. It can contact the back of the e-car to charge it instantly. In addition it is possible to carry a small replace-ment vehicle underneath.

Today the most frequent car breakdown is caused by broken accumulators.

The future electro cars need an infrastructure that keeps the traffic running in case that accumulators are empty or broken.

4137

Page 39: Portfolio Marco Peter

Infrastructure

Each rescue vehicle covers an area of 50 km. They can charge accumulators while towing the cars.

The rescue vehicles recharge their own batteries at their area mainstation where it can also pick up the replacement cars.

38

Protection

Affected person are confused and nervous after a break down. When the battery rescue arrives it protects the affected driver from traffic and a member of the staff calms him. The screen inside offers the detail information about the cause and shows further instructions.

The vehicle can go autonomousor it is driven by a mechanic.

Rapid Prototyping

Brandboard

Each student had to choose a brand that produces hand-tools (Fiskars in my case). The proportional package was set by the reference screwdriver (meec).

The technical elements had to be implemented into a working prototype and had to match the brands corporate identity.

Production Technology

The goal of this project were waterproof solidworks files that were ready to be printed by rapid prototyping machines. We had to create a working prototype within a limited period of time.

A main focus was the production concept that was discussesin a workshop where reference screwdrivers wer disassembled.

Interactive Water Tap Concept

The water tap detects the hands surface underneath to regulate the water flow to its users needs. It is an environmently friendly technology to save water.

Red and blue color indication is used to show where to regulate the water tem-perature by gestures. The tap sensors the movement next to these areas to change the water temperature. The gesture at the sides improves the hygenic value.

The water flow automatically stops when there is no moving surface detected underneath the tap.

Doorknob

FSB Doorknob

The doorknob was created in three days. The design process is inspiredby the traditional FSB workshop, including several foam mock ups to evaluate the feel and asthetics of the door handle.

Doorknob

The handle is shaped to fit with its users move-ment while opening and closing the door. On the left side it provides space for the thumb as it is typical for FSB doorknobs.
