Reporting Absences/Late Arrivals
If your child will be absent or tardy, please remember to call
the school office at 860-233-8541. You may report an absence
before 8:00 am by leaving a message in the absence box -
please state the child’s name, classroom teacher and reason
for the absence. Please email the teacher and the office to
report an absence or late arrival - including the office is of
vital importance, since a substitute teacher will not have access
to the teacher’s voicemail or email. Please notify the office
and classroom teacher each day of the absence.
Following these simple procedures will avoid incorrect
absence postings in our records and unnecessary absence calls,
which interrupt you at home or at the office.

It's not too late to enroll your child in
KIDS Group!
Kids In Divorce and Separation: the KIDS Group
at Whiting Lane School is forming for the 2017-2018
school year. The KIDS Group is for children whose
families are experiencing separation from other family
members due to divorce, separation, death of a loved one or
other circumstances of loss. Children experiencing separation
are often in need of extra caring at a time when parents are also
struggling with difficult issues. Children in grades 1-5 join
together weekly after school in a safe and positive club-like
setting with other children experiencing family adjustments.
There is no charge, but parent/guardian permission is
required. The program is facilitated by Mrs. Colleen Murphy
Hilliard, Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from
The Bridge Family Center.
For more information, please contact Janet Gregorian-
Michaelsen, School Social Worker at Whiting Lane School
at [email protected] or
860-233-8541 (x 5864).
The KIDS Group meets after school from 3:20 - 4:20 pm
on Thursdays and begins on November 30, 2017.
Sweets for Soldiers
Thanks to the generosity of our WL/ELC families, we sent
over 130 pounds of Halloween candy to our service men and
women through Operation Gratitude.

6:30 - 8:30 pm
West Hartford Town Hall
50 South Main Street
West Hartford, CT
The We All Have a Story to Tell Exhibit will showcase the stories of a diverse, cross-section of community members who are
inspiring equity in West Hartford. Through a narrative strategy of storytelling, this project vividly captures how these individuals and
groups work hard to disrupt social injustices and crate positive social change. Visitors to the exhibit can enhance their experience by
downloading the ‘Live Portrait’ application to see and hear the gallery images come alive. A companion book of the still photographs
will also be available for guests to purchase.
For more information about the Inspiring Equity exhibit, please contact Grant Coordinator, Michelle Lacroix
