President’s Message By Brad Huber
Back in April, we had a few of our chapter
members attend the John Ross Curling
Bonspiel in Edmonton. Although they didn’t
take home gold, a special thank-you to
Arash Ashou and Robert Gaudry
representing our chapter this year!
Our last chapter meeting is going to be held
on May.9th. We will be doing a tour of the
Sasktel Data Centre in downtown Regina.
We will have a quick bite to eat and a small
business meeting at Copper Kettle before
going heading over there. Make sure you
RSVP for this meeting; we need firm
attendance numbers so that Sasktel can
properly accommodate us. Photo ID will also
be required to get a visitor badge when
entering.
On June 1st, we are holding a paintball
event and BBQ for our YEA (Young
Engineers in ASHRAE) at Prairie Storm
Paintball. Details are included in this
newsletter, if you are interested in joining in
on the fun please contact Dylan Zwozdesky
Last on the radar of activity is the Annual

SaskTel’s Lorne Street Complex Tour By Alana Yip
At the meeting this month, we will be touring some of SaskTel's Lorne Street
Complex. We will have a tour of their co-location Tier 2 Data Centre, SaskTel's
internal Data Centre, and the Electrical Energy Centre. Together these facilities
provide SaskTel and their customers 99.99% uptime, N+1 redundancy for
cooling and generation, and a highly secure and low risk facility for natural
disasters. These facilities have been invested in greatly to provide the best
service to the customers. Come enjoy some pizza and see what goes in to
keeping our internet running.
ASHRAE Regina Chapter – Pile of Bones – 5/2/2018 3
We will meet for dinner and have our chapter meeting at the Copper Kettle and
walk over as a group to the SaskTel facilities for our tour. Please bring Photo ID
for entry into the SaskTel Facilities.
President Elect By Natasha Skea
With spring in the air and summer on its way the ASHRAE season is winding
down (but don’t forget about the golf tournament!). We’ll be back in September
with a mix of lunch and dinner meetings, more fun events, and a great new
lineup of engaging speakers.
There are a lot of changes coming to the ASHRAE Regina Board of Governors
(BOG) next year. It is with sadness we say goodbye to some valuable and long
term BOG members. Thank you to Alana Yip, Jared Larson, Janel Walter,
Dylan Zwozdesky, and Wayne Tkach for all of your years of ASHRAE service
and dedication to the Regina Chapter. With these changes come a bunch of
new BOG members and an opportunity for positive change. We have five new
(or returning) board members, a brand new board position and a bunch of new
ideas. Welcome Chris Klatt, Brad Lulik, Rob Craddock, Chris Best, and Carla
Spriggs! We can’t wait to see what fresh new ideas you bring to the BOG
team. Women in ASHRAE is a new BOG position and is still open for next year.
More information on this position will be distributed as it comes available, but
if you’re interested now let me know.
I’m looking forward to another great year with ASHRAE Regina and I hope you
are too. Have a great summer and we’ll see you back in the fall.

Three cheers for nice weather! What a difference a week made here. The snow melted fast and the sunshine is sure feeling good! Hope everyone is enjoying
the nice weather. The Society year for ASHRAE ends on June 30th, which means there is less
than two months for all of the chairs to hit their goals. For membership, it was to increase our society memberships by 2%. We started the year with 98 area
assigned members, and although we have had 4 new members, we are currently sitting at 96 area assigned members. Our goal is to hit 100 by the end of June. If you know any coworkers, colleagues, consultants, contractors,
suppliers, etc, that could benefit in any way from being a member - please let me know! You can text/call me at 306-533-5005 or email me at [email protected] .
Here is a chart listing the different membership grades and benefits associated
with each! (*Note, the prices are all in US funds) Reach out if you have any questions.

YEA Leadership Weekend By Carla Drager
This past March I had the opportunity to attend the Young Engineers in
ASHRAE (YEA) Leadership Weekend in Seattle led by Ralph Kison. The course
broke everyone down to their core personality traits and categorized those that
were more of an implementer versus those that were more of an executer.
Doing this allowed us to discuss many aspects of ourselves such as the way we
set goals, our leadership styles and what we aspire to, how to grow and develop
ourselves, the types of careers that nurture our dominant traits and whether
we are in that position yet or not. One interesting thing that we were able to see
through this was how to work with people of the opposite personalities and the
importance of associating ourselves with those that make us uncomfortable.
“Personal development and ongoing learning is not an option or a luxury, it is
essential for success in selling and in life” – Ralph Kison
We also discussed the goal of YEA and the importance of networking and
having the support of our fellow YEA members who are most often going
through the same struggles and successes as us. As I take on my new role as
YEA leader this upcoming year, I hope to take lessons learned from the
Leadership training and plan some fun and education events that can bring us
together, both young and old.
