PIKWAKANAGAN MENTAL WELLNESS AND RECOVERY DAY
Wednesday November 14, 2018
10:00 am—3:00 pm Makwa Community Centre
83B Kagagimin Inamo, Pikwakanagan, ON
It is my pleasure to invite you to our ‘Mental Wellness & Recovery Day’. This event is open to all community members to support those in our community who are affected by mental health and substance use disorders in one way or another.
We know that mental health and substance use disorders often go completely untreated in part due to a stigma that goes back centuries which still exists today. Even when treatment is sought it may be unsuccessful due to lack of information, personal comfort level, accessibility, and time frame for services or treatment challenges.
Join us for a day of learning, raising awareness, and sharing of resources to help us all make healthier and conscious decisions, so that we all can live a life of wellness, recovery and balance.
This event will include; guest speakers, demonstrations, service provider booths, resource sharing, networking, snacks and lunch, laughter & door prizes.
If you would like to represent a service that provides mental wellness and recovery, please do not hesitate to contact Alexandra Bednash to register by October 31, 2018 at:

The Four Agreements
Agreement 1
Be impeccable with your word
Speak with integrity. Say only what you mean.
Avoid using your words against yourself or to
gossip about others. Use the power of your
words in the direction of truth and love.
Agreement 2
Don’t take anything personally
Nothing others do is because of you. What
others say and do is a projection of their own
reality, their own dream. When you are immune
to the opinions and actions of others, you won’t
be the victim of needless suffering.
Agreement 3
Don’t make assumptions
Find the courage to ask questions and to
express what you really want. Communicate with
others as clearly as you can to avoid
misunderstandings, sadness and drama. With
just this one agreement, you can completely
transform your life.
Agreement 4
Always do your best
Your best is going to change from moment to
moment; it will be different when you are healthy
as opposed to sick. Under any circumstance,
simply do your best, and you will avoid self-
judgment, self-abuse and regret.

ZIBI PROJECT continued
Through this multi-phase development, Zibi will
transform the derelict land into a blend of
residential housing types, commercial and office
space, unique waterfront plazas and outdoor
squares, recreational facilities, and more. Truly
one-of-a-kind, Zibi combines unparalleled views of
the Ottawa River, Parliament Hill, and downtown
Ottawa and Gatineau skylines framed by a modern
architectural design that still respects the heritage
of the area. Zibi is where nature, culture, heritage
and the joys of life culminate.
What is the public art opportunity?
This phase of public art at Zibi builds on the
construction that is currently underway on the Quebec
side, with the project’s first public plaza and first
residential and commercial buildings. To honour the
partnerships with Algonquin Anishinabeg communities,
Zibi is seeking to commission Algonquin Anishinabeg
artists to create art installations for the three sites
described below.
PUBLIC ART SITES
1. Place Zibi – South Wall Located adjacent to the Sentier des Voyageurs NCC
pathway, and overlooking the Ottawa River, the
southern wall and steps of Place Zibi provides a blank
canvas for murals, etching or an art installation on the
wall. The wall is divided in 2 sections with a staircase in
the middle. The stairs can also be used for artistic
etchings or additions. During the construction of the
wall, granite was added to the concrete mix, to
accommodate for the potential of sandblasting the wall
to create additional texture and colour, should the artist
wish. Wall dimensions:
Left/West section: 2.55m (tall) x 13.4m (wide) =
34.17m2
Right section: 2.55 m (tall) x 12m (wide) = 30.6m2
Staircase: 8.7m (wide) x 7.3 (deep) with wall varying
from 2.3m to 20cm (tall)

INTRODUCTION
What is Zibi?
Situated on the banks of the Ottawa River, Zibi is a
new community being built in both the City of
Ottawa and the City of Gatineau, something that
has never been done before. In Ottawa, Zibi rests on
the western edge of downtown, consists of both the
Chaudière and Albert Islands and is surrounded by
the Ottawa River. These islands are physically
disconnected from both cities by the river and
present an opportunity to create a unique sense of
place amongst the heritage buildings on both
islands. In Gatineau, the lands are within the
downtown core of the city and provide an
opportunity to extend the city out to the banks of
the river.
Pikwakanagan Tibadjumowin – October 19, 2018
2. Place Zibi – Shade Structures
On the south side of the plaza, overlooking the park
and waterfront below, shaded areas or pergola
structures are planned with views towards the
Ottawa River. To-date the foundations for the
shelters have been installed and cannot be modified,
however the opportunity exists for artists to
customize the shade design and side structure of the
pergolas. Proposed dimensions:
West pergola: 3m (tall) x 10m (wide)

3. Rue Eddy– Site Welcoming feature One of the principle entry points into the Zibi
community on the Gatineau side is at the intersection of
Eddy/Laurier streets. The northeast corner of the
intersection provides a unique opportunity to showcase
the partnership between the Algonquin Anishinabeg
community and Zibi, and be a welcoming feature or
sculpture as a visitor or resident enters the Zibi site.
Sculpture or feature dimensions to be discussed.
SCOPE OF WORK
The intent of this proposal call is to invite
Algonquin Anishinabeg artists the opportunity to
review the potential sites, select their preferred
project(s) and develop a concept and preliminary
cost estimate for the work to be completed.
To allow the Zibi team to evaluate the proposals,
and select the artist, please submit the following:
1. Artist bio, explaining which Algonquin
Anishinabe community you are from, a little
about yourself and the inspiration for your
submission.
2. A two (2) page maximum written description of
the design concept, materials and processes you
would consider for the fabrication, how the
work would be installed and the overall
integration of the artist piece within the selected
site;
3. Sketches illustrating the overall design intent;
4. Preliminary cost estimate to complete the
works;
5. Additional technical support required, such as a
structural engineer, S sandblast technician, etc.;
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
To confirm your interest in this public art
opportunity, please send your full name and contact
information (email, phone number, other) to
[email protected] no later than October 22,
2018. A visit of the public art sites described above
will be organized for the last week of October
(October 29 through November 2) with all
interested artists, in order to complete your
proposals.
