To the Teacher
These little five-note pieces, for piano four-hands, are arranged so that the pupil can
play either part. They form a suitable course of sight reading in the first grades. Thosewritten in an easy key, and repeated in another, sometimes more difficult, are intended to
accustom the child's ear to distinguish changes of tone-color, besides affording a desirable
readjustment of the hand position. When the fingers have become used to a particular five-
note compass, they learn to find the intervals more readily, and are soon able to play without
the stuttering and halting which destroys the sense of rhythmic continuity, and kills musical
understanding.
My affection for the little German folk-songs, included in this collection, made it a labor
of love to arrange them so that both treble and bass parts could be read with equal facility.
If the children enjoy the reading lesson, my aim will be accomplished.
SUSAN SCHMITT
To the Little Boys and Girls
Will you come and ride with me on my broomstick, far and wide?
First round the sun, then round the moon,
And we'll light on the steeple to hear a merry tune.
Kate Greenaway
Subdue the Bass!
When you have the noisy bass notes, don't thunder!!!
A little boy once played so loud,
That the thunder up in a thunder cloud
Said, "Since I can't be heard, why, then,
I'll never, never thunder again."
Eugene Field
The World's Music
The world's a very happy place,
Where every child should dance and sing
And always have a smiling face
And never sulk at anything.
R. L. Stevenson

tinguish changes of tone-color, besidesaffording a desirable re-adjustment ofthe hand position.
"The little pieces are eminently prac-tical and possess a distinct charm froma child's point-of-view, in that they arereally interesting; making explanationsand studies a positive pleasure, and all

NEW FUNDAMENTAL
PIANO METHODFounded on the Arm-Weight Touch
A Thorough Course for Beginners
By
ALBERT LOCKE NORRIS
Price, n. $1.00
"Your Fundamental Method covers the groundadmirably. Everything is presented extremely well andthere is not a word too much. This opinion is also
voiced by the piano teachers in my department. Whatwe all found especially satisfactory, is your insistence
upon establishing at the outset the right finger andarm control. We regard it as a serious mistake to delayrelaxation and concentration exercises until bad habits
have been formed. You have very satisfactorily solved
the problem of combining such work with musical
interest."
(Signed) George Coleman Gow, Vassar College.
THE
PRACTICETRIANGLEA Device for the Development
of Forearm-rotation, forFinger-extension and
Finger-freeing, by
TOBIAS MATTHAYPrice, including
Practice Card, n. $2.50
With this simple butclever device Prof. Mat-thay is actually offering,
the pianists a tool where-with to perfect the rotative
motion of the arm, and to develop greater finger extension. The'llustrated "Practice Card," accompanying the triangle, leaves nodoubt as to the proper application, and contains all necessarynstructions that will enable anybody to make correct and intelli-
gent use of Prof. Matthay's rules and principles.
We also recommend the following books by the same author:
THE CHILD'S FIRST STEPSIN PIANO PLAYING—On the Forearm-rotation Principle Price n. .60
Since 1903 Mr. Matthay has issued several works; but prob-ably none more interesting, from the teacher's point of view, than"The Child's First Steps." (Musical Times.)
THE FOREARM-ROTATION PRINCIPLEIN PIANO PLAYING—Its Application and Mastery Price n. .50
The book offers an individual contribution to the question ofthe pianist's method, and illustrates it well with musical exercises.

POPULAR GRADED COURSEFOR THE PIANO
FOUNDED ON THE WORK OF
A. KUCHENMEISTERBy Charles Roepper
Part A: ELEMENTARY Part B: PROGRESSIVEEach n. 60
This is a modified and revised version of A. Kiichen-
meister's work, which has enjoyed such large popularity.
The fact that there existed no Knglish translation of it,
has prompted this edition. It is adapted for self-
instruction as well as for the teacher's use, who will
find it a convenient way of presenting to the pupil a lot
of information that otherwise would have to be dictated
into note books, or would have to be looked for in
manuals on elementary theory.
Due regard has been exercised in the matter of
selecting attractive teaching pieces for this course, anda number of standard, copyrighted compositions will
be found, in both volumes, that heretofore have not
been offered in this succinct and inexpensive form.

The great Scandinavian piano pedagog has em-bodied in this work the sum and substance of his knowl-edge, experience, and art. With rare mastery he hasevolved a complete graded course that leads the pupilfrom the earliest beginnings to the final stages of pianotechnic. The high musical interest of these studiesplaces them far above other works. It was Schytte'saim not only to produce brilliant pianists, but also goodmusicians—and his success is unquestionable.
