PASCALE GIRARDIN’S BIOGRAPHY Pascale Girardin is a Canadian artist whose work is rooted in visual art, design and craft, ranging from functional ware to public art and large-scale installations.
She has gained international recognition in the last two decades, collaborating with some of the world’s top design fi rms on projects that include the Four Seasons Place in Pudong Shanghai, the newly opened Clement Restaurant at the Peninsula Hotel in New York, Printemps department store in Paris, Al Badia Golf Club in Dubai, St Regis Hotel in San Francisco and many others.
Originally trained as a painter, she has contributed to the dynamism of Canadian ceramics by exploring and investing spaces with her large-scale architectural installations. Whether suspended in mid-air, grazing a wall or fl oating in water, her works evoke nature’s omnipresence and organic structure, subtly underlying our fundamental relationship with the world we live in.
In her Montreal studio, she imparts this vision to her team of artists by the way of workshops, training and dynamic exchanges where all are encouraged to develop innovative ideas both for the studio and for their own body of work.
In the past few years, Pascale has broadened her practice by using new materials such as aluminium, cast resin, polycarbonate and wood. Deriving from her ceramic practice, these works permit her to develop large structures previously unachievable due to the technical limitations of clay.
Pascale Girardin also designs and produces dishware for high-end restaurants in North America (J&G Grill, Nobu, le Toqué!) - supporting the notion that the art of living and the life of a work of art are intrinsically linked.
Inspired by the essential expression of pure forms, Pascale’s sculptures stem from an intuitive dialogue with the material and it’s environnement, refl ecting the delicate balance between these elements and the artist’s vision. Her quiet, po-etic approach is homage to the material’s sensitive surface and memory.
